ZESCO announces increased load shedding

Share

Zesco has announced that it will reduce power generation from its Kariba North Bank power station in order to carry out repair works.

Zesco Senior Manager for Marketing and Public Relations Monica Chisela said the company will switch off one of the two power lines as it carries out repair works on the 330 Kilo volts Kariba north bank power station line to Loaders hill.

Addressing the media at Zesco offices in Lusaka today, Ms. Chisela said the move will also allow a safe working environment on the line.

She said the reduced power generation at the power generating station will also result in increased load shedding during certain times of the day in order to maintain the power supply balance.

Mrs. Chisela has however advised customers that the impact of load shedding can be minimized if the demand on the limited power currently available is reduced.

She added that both domestic and commercial customers should therefore ensure that all non-essential appliances are switched off during peak hours to minimize electricity consumption.

Ms. Chisela has however assured customers that Zesco will expedite the repair works in order to restore the line in time.

And Ms. Chisela has disclosed that the Zambia-Zimbabwe power inter-connector which was switched off in September after some disturbances on the line was last week switched on.

She said the power inter-connector between the two countries was switched on after a series of consultations with the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).

  1. if i remember very well. RB promised among other things reduction in fuel prices, mealie meal prices and he categorically said loadshedding WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST. I am am afraid that we have to live with loadshedding for the next 3 years going by the article. We told you Vote wisely…..

  2. Now that they have won elections, they are under no constraint to provide power to all at all times. We are just tired of these repair works that do not seem to have an end. Sata is right to say Sisala must go. Why was Sisala spared and Mateyo moved?

  3. We are already used to such treatment. However, I would urge Monica and her workmates to minimise power demand themselves because they pay too little or nothing as compared to us. Imagine K1000 against K50000! What ratio is it?

  4. This is what is upsetting. RB says no load shedding, and chi sisala says something else. Who is in charge kanshi? Aya sana Sisala. Yet his home has never experienced load shedding even for a minute.

  5. Monica and your team please consider switching of during day times and not everyday esp in areas like Garden, U switch us off, for other places like VIPs to have power, not fair at all. how come others do not feel the pitch

  6. Welcome back load-shedding. We’d a brief respite for a few weeks during the erections but now we are back to the usual. Wish we had another presidential erection coming soon.

  7. We are tired of repairs, we only get to enjoy electricity three days in a week rest it load shedding and talk of the electricity bills one would wonder how they come up with the figures.

  8. #6 you quoted this character correctly, fake promises is the order of the day. we are in for it now, they dont even care what happens to our electrical appliances because of their useless load shedding.

  9. Rb can u pliz take this matter of electricity seriously and critical and as a matter of urgency, we believed Ubwato was definately going to do something abt the loadshedding we’ve suffered for some time, u made sure he did not get in power. prove your self to be a man of actions for once, remove sisala from that office please appoint someone who will make a difference, everyday its sisala repairing this and that.

  10. #6 Montana and #7 Hunter- Hope you didnt vote mmd because of such promises. I said then RB is not an engineer and there could not wave a magic wand abragadabra loading shading goes!!!! No the problem is very complex and made complicated by one scissors.

  11. I am writing this under a flickering light bulb. Well done zambians for putting back MMD in power. Rehabilitations that do not yeild any results. What do they rehabilitate kanshi. Small wonder they are using crooks to enrich themselves and their families. No development, relaible electric power is one cornerstoneof development. what more should we expect when RB told us his govt will be a conntinuity of the Levy legacy of loadshedding and recycling old rags in the name of politicians. We dribbled ourselves and now lets us live with the reality of Teta, Mulongoti, VJ and others enjoying while we go without amalaiti.

  12. Nyama soya promised us that we shall not experience load shedding again….so what the hell is this? more load shedding?can someone help us find a lasting solution to this problem…

  13. engines where are you its hadly a day when we talked about this ha ha ha iwe # sony Ericson Phiri bwanji mwana u see you feel so happy being number one i have come to terms with ur happiness.

  14. What Happened to the promises of NO LoadSheding if i come into power. RB went around the country telling us the good news but alas as usual cant keep promises.. Anything to get into power!!!1

  15. But what was that we were told by Wisi Nenani when he was campaigning? This is totally the opposite!!! elo lwanya nomba… back to the stone ages..better get that mbaula and chaocoal..

  16. Those saying RB said no loadshedding, did u actually believe he decides,ha ha ha,he ain’t no Electrical Engineer, the experts have said because of no expansion & rehabilitation in the energy sectors of most nations around africa, the problem will haunt the region for a while so that person you call ”nyama soya” can’t do nothing to stop loadshedding until the power rehabilitation project is finished but it seems it won’t,it started many years ago even the brain boxes like Dr Akapelwa who was Director of the Project at ZESCO failed to see the project thru, the costs are enormous, the world bank has also been involved let’s hope the project finishes so that we have enough energy for the all.

  17. Some Zambian Politicians are not honest. RB kindly adhere to your promises. The truth shall set you free. Zambia for all… May electricity be shared equally even at State House so that we all feel the impact of load sheding…

  18. As Zambians they know that its easy to take us for granted where dd zesco get all that power during the campaigns and where has all power gone now?

  19. Our brothers and sisters who betrayed in far-flung areas dont even bother about this animal called loading, I envy them mwe.

  20. And where did RB find information that ZESCO will stop load shedding, RB is so 60’s in the way he runs Government, this guys is unbelievable.

  21. It seems most of these ladies making headlines in zambia are not married. Is monica in a stable relationship, married or divorced?

  22. 33. NANCY PELOSI
No one betrayed the other, the beauty of democracy is that everyone has a say,the rural dwellers made their choice & they were helped by urban folks who choose anarchy as their ballot. The rural folks are further helped by selfish opposition leaders who don’t wanna unite, there’s just many political parties & contenders that even that 50+1 majority win desired by some citizens won’t be of help because no one will meet the threshold.

  23. #35. Anonymous
Does marital status help in loadshedding,if someone decides to choose to remain single it’s their choice however it’s common knowledge that powerful women cannot be approached by weak men so it explains why some powerful women are single.

  24. I for one dont understand ZESCO operations but from experience there shud planning and excution but it appears this doesnt take place in this organisation. If i can remember load shedding started in 2005 july but what kind of maintenance is still taking place instead of expanding we are still doing maintenance. This is a failure on the part of management. We didnt train engineers to load shed but to deliver.

  25. #13, are you sure you want another presidential erection, I guess you want to be an independent monitor too! (lol)

  26. This situation is unacceptable! The problem should be resolved once and for all otherwise how does the Finance minister expect to encourage $4billion worth of direct foreign investment with a CV that has “load shedding” as a key skill??

  27. maybe they are exporting ha ha ha
nalimyebele now you are paying for your votes. This is the beauty of democracy abused.Until i come back to Zed,very very old with no regrets at all.I will make sure am moving with a stick.I remember the words of my late Dad who worked for years and years..and cried for his peanut pension until he died.May his words haunt you.

  28. Ma labishi for real. What did RB mean when he said power cuts will be a thing of the past? I am glad i did not believe him.

  29. 38. bms9
The successive flooding caused major damage to power generation equipment at kariba but most of that has been repaired, the issue now causing the loadshedding is that there is too much demand while there isn’t enough energy even power exports to each other by african states have been stopped so in effect it is an ”energy crunch.”It seems no one realised there will be a time when there will be many households & industries needing power so all utility companies in the region maintained the same capacity.

  30. Iwe chi Nyama soya Banda, ungo shula chabe, you ‘re not doing anything. Go to hell first.what can we look foward to get out of you? Mushindo wako, na chi VJ,mulongoti teta, is mulongoti not dead, we head he was sick,Let him die, with you chi nyama soya. Midiidi yenu nobabwa nwyebo.

  31. Zambia Shall Be Shedded in the folly name of R Sisala. For we are all the sheople of his pasture and in the darkness of our fake humility and sheepishness, we all have been made to sing allelujah to the GENERATOR REPAIR song. Reality is ZESCO can’t meet both external and internal power demands so the weaker (us the sheople), who on paper are supposed to be ZESCO’s first priority customers, have to bare the cross of load shedding until the entire country is shedded and saved from light thanks to the Movement for Mad Dogs Govt for their unrelenting plunder of ZESCO revenues for their political ends. Remember what partially led to the collapse of ZCCM? There was no reinvestment.

  32. #41 Kazela mmm!! (finger cutting across my neck and pointing skywards) I would live through another erection because while they are promising us no more load shedding, they actually do deliver on that promise. So yeah, bring on another one. As for being an independent monitor, walasa: I will be monitoring the levels and frequency of power and load shedding. Ask your bululus back home they will agree, it was good during the campaigns.

  33. RB why did you have to cheat us to say loading will be a thing of the past? Moreover this loading is not equally shared you can find some areas are not even affected by it whilst others its 24/7, l think thats not fair.State House is never affected by loading so l dont think RB would even have a heart for others who are badlt affected by it.Come 2011, am not voting cause all this is black mail l think its better to be non-partisan.

  34. MMD makes money exporting fuel to DRC and selling it at higher rates to the mines in Northwestern. They would rather supply the mines the citizens. Deal with it

  35. Zambians never learn. now you are blaming some one for using you for his vote! i thot all of you were far ahead to read between the lines of those dreamy promises…lets grow up zambia.
ZESCO: Feel ashamed of your selves. be inovative, repair and maintenance are a necessary evil but find alternative sources to give to your clients whilst that is being done. I wonder how investment worth $4Billion/yr will be attracted with this kind of mediocrity.

  36. #35 Anonymous, Good boy
I also wanted to ask the same quastion. Never mind about #37 I think its a lady. lets analyse them
    Dora silia
    Syvia masebo
    Vera tembo
    chileshe kapwepwe
    mulenga kapwepwe
    nkandu luo
To mention but a few. does it mean that there are no men in the country to manage them. my opinion is that most ladies who’re up there dont give respect to there men, so in the end they tend to lose them.Normaly a wise man should do just that.

  37. The Post reports that ZESCO is to spend $20 million on phase 2 fibre optics for telecoms. is this their core business, Why not send such amounts on new hydro station ?

  38. There is no initiative in govt, in this institution to alliviate this problem. We were suppose to seeing initiative such as mega Generators, wind energy etc. How long are consumer going to endure power failure and load shedding?

  39. Abena R.B ati shani!!! lol! You must have been crazy to think that R.B was doing more than politikin when he was making those premises..
what next fertiliser shortage or back to K 250k.

  40. 54 Mundiya Sikatan

Most men are afraid to commit to ladies who have strong characters, hard working and successful!!!! Most men cant stand it … A woman to be highly sucecefull than a man usually spells catastrophe in the marriage… That is just the way it is!!!! And considering the age group of these ladies, They are most likely to meet men who are either devorced or widowers the Playing field becomes limited…Sometime its not by choice that they are single!!

  41. Loadsheeding on the increase
Mealie meal prices on the rise
    Kwacha depreciating against major currencies
    VJ back in national limelight
    What next from this govt??

Well at least I still have my individual liberties which would have been trampled upon had a certain cobra made its way to Plot 1!! All the nyama soya-induced problems in the world can never equal the pain of the possibility of living through the alternative (ie pf presidency). I’M SURE PF PIPO WILL HAVE A FIELD DAY INSULTING ME FOR MY VIEWS, but thats why l cant complain about rb becoz at least he’s insulating me from the physical abuse that pf carders would have caused me for these views had sata been in state house.

  42. Now that Nyama Soya is comfortably ensconced in his seat, he can now call the shots…RESUME THE LOADSHEDDING PROGRAM, SISALA NOW THAT ELECTIONS ARE OVER!!!

  43. Thats Nyama Soya for you. We should actually brace ourselves, fuel issue is not even touched yet but i can assure you the price is going upwards instead of going downwards as per the happenings on the world market. Mealie meal – Govt yet to discuss with the stake holders, so i guess we go hungry until such a time when discussions can be held. School fees in some places are already being up’d.

  44. Nonsense! I was in Standerton RSA, they still use hydro-thermo to generate power. We have lots of coal. Lets revive the old furnaces to power the domestic and leave hydro to industries! The in thing now is geo-thermo! Dril for hot springs ie rufunsa we can generate 200mega watts per dril

  45. What has happened? [ THE NEW CABINET ]. I Thought the minster of Eneregy and Water Supply was goinng to be shakened. These guys, like i said in my early contributions, are not thinking startegically. Its high time the young generation put up a fight.
[ Cival Engineers and Electrical Engineers what are you doing? ] Help ZESCO before it collapses………………………
    GOD HELP US.

  46. #5,6,7 that’s the kind of irrational thinking that afflicts some of our citizens. the power supply situation is tight such that any essential major works that zesco wants to carry out leads to immediate impact on customers, regardless of who is in charge at zesco. this is what sata failed to understand. on the other hand, RB did not promose anyone a quick fix to this problem. he said that it required major investments which he will push to eliminate the problem in future. in the interim he said that zesco were carrying rehabilitation/repairs/upgrade to the generators and things should improve by december 2008. Not the 90 days nonsense!

  47. #31 the power demand in kaunda’s days was low and plenty of surplus, therefore you did not even know when such works were being carried out but they were. read and understand the world around you please.

  48. Take president Michael Sata by his words.During one of his compaign he said that Banda can ride on anything to get to state house. This includes riding on lies, corruption, intimidation, rigging and manupulation etc.Banda is brain dead.He has no vision for Zambia.check on his appointments. He is an appeaser.Everything will get worse.

  49. #69 Capitals after a fullstop. That aside, you will wait forever to see any change I am afraid! Come back to me after 5 years. The story will be pretty much the same. Africa is Africa. The same promises MMD made will be the same ones 3 years from now trust me. Can bet my house on it!

  50. in UNIP we used to tell u to minimise dependant on these modern products, my beloved Grey Zulu once tld Zambians to stop using refined cooking oil and go back to Fisashi. It was a way of reducing ques at ZCBC. Now go on one step forward three steps back this progress for our dear madalas in the pate and it’s gabamenti.we going round in a circle that we need to free ourselves from.

  51. Ifwe ngatwati tu commente po ilyashi lya load shedding abati “It’s because you’re not affected, shut up and stay where you are!” So nomba ku lola vye.

  52. #76 I am not surprised. Zambians will tell you to “F” off if you tell them in 16 years it is only once that you have been without electricity without being warned! Even then it was only for 2 hours. This is a country which could do anything to have Kariba.

  53. “Zesco has announced that it will reduce power generation from its Kariba North Bank power station in order to carry out repair works.”

How many generators are currently running at Kaliba North Bank PS Mrs …?

  54. The MMD must work out a good plan in order for them to defeat The UPND Team in 2011 which is regrouping if they want to be in GRZ.

Otherwise, president HH and his group are now busy working out how they will develop Zambia and reaching us the electorate at our hearts.

How can KNB PS always be running at lower capacity? GRZ and ZESCO, please be serious for people need energy to do a lot of things including bringing in FDI to Zambia which is critical to our now ailing economy.

  55. Fellow zambians we are in great animal farm the snobs.privatise zesco no one is benifiting.check nambia u admire remove sisala or wait for catastrophic to our living. The villagers are not affected but voted for these political prostitutes garbages milking poor pipo.

  56. During the campaigns,RB announced in Mpulungu that load sheding would be reduced. And we saw that happening, but now that elections are over,we have to brace ourselves with more improved load nonsense.Sisala his team have lamentably failed to run that organisation efficiently. But dont think that SiSala can be fired. The government withdraws money from Zesco and Zamtel, besides owing these 2 companies billions of kwacha.Even for things such as compaigns. Therefore, the directors of these 2 organisations are supposed to allow the government to do that smoothly. When they refuse they are fired. So to me Sisala has been loyal in this area that he cant be fired easily. That is the reason why despite having potential to have huge turn over. These campanies are on the vege of collapsing.so this is your MMD govrnment!!

  57. In case some of you have forgotten how RB acted during the campaigns,he promised to reduce fertiliser from k250 to k50, people cant access that fertiliser.Mealie meal was reduced by k2,000,but today everyone knows how things are on mealie meal .In Mpulungu RB promised that load shedding wil be reduced, but today we have been told that they wil more load shedding.Me,i wil never be cheated by these crooks, never. And You Maestro also you hav started dreaming again.

  58. These people have just failed us. how many times are they going to lie to us… this too is a recipe to anarchy. MMD OUT agalu imwe..

  59. ## ULIBE NKANI WHY UTTER SUCH RUBBISH ARE YOU INSANE TWALIMYEBELE ATI BUTUKENI YOU SAID WE ARE PATRIOTIC SO ENJOY YOUR PATRIOTISM JUST BUY MBAULA NA KOLOBOYI NAMA CANDLES AYAPWA MULI 20 MINS GUD LUCK BUT MIND YOUR LANGUAGE THATS BEING INSOLENT

  60. ZESCO, WAKE UP. U DONT NEED TO LOADSHADE. DIVERSIFY INTO SOLAR ENERGY. MASS-BUY SOLAR PANELS N INSTAL THEM ON ALL HOUSES IN ZAMBIA. ALSO USE SOLAR 4 STREET-LIGHTING. STREET LIGHTING BY SOLAR ENERGY CONTROLS ITSELF WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF ENANCEMENT WITH CHIPS. HOUSEHOLDERS WILL PAY THE RATES (THOUGH MUCH CHEAPER) IN A SIMILAR WAY U BILL THEM, BUT A FLAT FEE DEPENDING ON AREA BAND. I MEAN WOODLANDS HSEHOLDERS CANT PAY THE SAME AS LIBALA HOUSEHOLDERS. AND THEN USE HYDRO POWER FOR INDUSTRIAL PLANTS AND SO ON. IN THE UK BRITISH GAS CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH gas, electricity, etc. They do not depend on only one form of energy. I ve put it in very simple language for everyone to understand.

  61. AND THEN AGAIN. THERE IS PLENTY OF COAL IN ZAMBIA. PLEASE, DOMESTICATE COAL USAGE. STOP CUTTING TREES FOR MALASHA (CHARCOAL) AND INKUNI (FIREWOOD). PACK COAL IN SMALLER PACKAGES AND SELL IT COUNTRY-WIDE. COAL CAN BE USED FOR HEATING AND COOKING AND ITS BETTER THAN CHARCOAL IN MANY WAYS. It can be used several times unlike charcoal which completely burns. its cheaper and plenty in zambia. It will not destroy the forests in Zambia. it can both be used in towns (muma yard) and villages (kumushi). It burn longer. It will provide revenue for the grz and income for indegenous zambians. It will create thousands of jobs. Zesco and other companies with the economies of scale, spearhead into this

  62. ##91 ba PETER KWATI TAMWIKALA KU ENGLAND THEREZ GROBAL WARMING AND YOU WANT TO ENCOURAGE USE OF FOSSIL FUELS THET=Y ARE TRYING TO OUTDO THAT EVERYWHERE MUKASHALA MWEKA HAVE YOU BEEN TO SOUTH AFRICAN TOWNSHIPS WHERE COAL IS USED FOR HEATING ITS A POLLUTANT MY DEAR
