Education Minister, Geoffrey Lungwangwa, says school leavers will this year be allowed to hold leavers ball parties.
Professor Lungwangwa says the ministry has already issued directives to school authorities on how to conduct the functions.
He told ZNBC news in Lusaka that there is nothing wrong with school leavers holding graduation parties as long as they do not turn violent.
[ZNBC]
Government banned schools from hosting pupils leavers ball parties after some students died in a stampede during a function in Kitwe two years ago.
And Professor Lungwangwa said investigations into this year’s examination leakages have been launched.
The minister said law enforcement agencies and relevant education authorities are carrying out the investigations.
Nambala 1. Nomba mbelenge…

I was nnever aware of the ban, too bad for the students who lost their lives. Otherwise, I think leavers ball parties are a nice way of closing the school days chapter in everybody’s life.
O, sorry

That leaves you with me Sweetheart:)
thanxs so that we hammer the girls 4 2008 exit and give them AIDS.
thats okey as long as they behave .as for the leakages it is the irresponsible teachers who re selling those papers to the students so that they can drink kachasu whilest a student is taking castle .
OK guys, I confess that sometimes the stories on LT bore me. That’s when I start joking with people to pass time, no offense meant. I miss Zambian social life and company big time. Especially in winter, I even get depressed, sob, sob.
They cancelled our leavers ball at Nyimba secondary school in 1995 because we had started our rehersals early for the school leavers drama,an event that was done by the outgoing O level class. All the grade 12 were punished for this.
The students teamed up and sent word to everyone that payback was to drink out brains out on the day we were suppose to hold the leavers ball.
I have never seen so many students drunk in one day.It didnt matter prefect or not, everyone was drunk and worse still there was a new Deputy Headmaster who had just transfered close to the end of the year who tried to write down the names of all the drunk students but everyone told him that he was to be recognised as
Deputy head next year when we had left.We also did the sheep sheep come home game going from the Boys domes to the Girls. No teacher deared to come.not even the matrone cause when the girls had responded to our call to say sheep sheep come home, they said the were afraid of the matrone but the group called the matrone the word you dont wanna hear.
When the deputy pointed to the prefects to say catch that drunk chap,it was the prefects who lost their footing first chifukwa chama dizz.
The following morning you could literally smell beerin on the compass cause of peoples vomit.
Its a pity because abene “Nine Chale” will have a field day hunting tuma poor drunken school girls as they stagger from the ball. So will I.
#33 How can you think like that as if giving chicks AIDS is a milestone in life. Uli pama ARVs ? Just imagine if it was your own daughter being ‘shakafuswa’d’ Kwata amano kwindi !
#33 Are you on drugs??? I bet you are the pride and joy of your family, how cud you think like that? What is wrong with you? Do you think AIDS is a disease to joke with? These are our children who are just finishing high school and all you can think of is spoiling their future. How twisted is that? Your thoughts are worse than a serial killer’s. For a second try and use that dot of grey matter you have in your skull called the brain. I know you dont have much but try and use the little dot that you have. Behave yourself you nosense person!!!!! Ma rubbish yako!!!!
those girls who died in kitwe were not even in the graduating intake. I think it was at a club where not only “sugo’s” attended. It was such a shame. It’s always nice if the school organises something, thought I know it seems boring but after that if the school leavers go out, it is not the schools fault. And ba #33 nzelu ku ipa, monga you’re possed. You must be desperate to be hooking up with ma 17 and 18 year olds…mmmhmmm.
Then what happens? Girls end up getting knocked up. Cycle continues, bastards on the streets, prostitutes and worried parents. Bring it on.
I think there are are more important and pressing issues the minister can talk about than anouncing the lift on the ban on parties for school leaves. When people at that level in government open their mouthes to make public pronouncements we expect them to talk about more serious issues. Let him open his mouth and say some thing about the exam leaks.
why shold they celebrate? and for achieving what? its diferent from a student who gets a diplom at a graduation. if they want to be cerebrating let them do it after results, otherwise these pupils u r encouraging them to drink and do all sort of evil on such parties
The pupils will drink beer uncontrollably, they will flood night clubs. The girl child will be taken advantage to be f*ckd. These have happened before and will happen again. This occassion is irrelevant. the schooll authorities should not agree to this. This Lungwangwa, has got ka ma young one he wants to F*CK? going by Nyama Soya who has married a small one I would not be suprized. He should be pr occupied with improving conditions in schools not promoting beer parties.
Was Lungwangwa gassing, using his ass to speak or what? I cannot believe this is coming from a minister who is a parent. RB fire Lungwangwa.
Elo lwanya nomba… There will be another ban come January..the way these kids behave?? gotta agree with #9 Areaboy..chaps will get drunk, laid, beat up and even locked up for conduct likely to cause breach of peace..
Number #47
Or is it 48??
Maybe 49
# 48, impressive you can actually count up to 49……!
i think its about time. though the schools should think of ways of hosting their graduating pupils better than let discos and bars host leavers’ balls
Hey u guys ,am just horny 4 a sweet16!no big deal…anyway come January2009 I will ban them again,then December2009 (hoping I will still b edu-minister)I will lift ban again…LIFE GOES ON!

ijust dont hate his looks i hate his commentry as well .His life atUNZA was such adisaster and he goes with it every were he goes. Are parties more important than the lack of learning materials and teachers in our pathetic schools.OR IS HE ALSO AFTER THE SWEET SIXTEEN THING?
YES YES YES LUNGWANGWA…ALATU KABANYEENGA ABAICHE!bushe ndelota zoona?

#56 are u insane?..please think straight iwe chikkala
1.were is this world goin 2?
2.isnt Zambia still a christian nation?
3.Lungwangwa why did u lift the ban?
4.give good reasons…let the children celebrate AFTER gettin their results.NOT before.
5.U are just giving the kids an ALIBI for drunkeness, illicit sex…etc on that day.
SHAME ON YOU MINISTER…instead of fighting exam-leakages,u are busy promoting ifyabupuba!
am starting to BELIEVE what #51 has written!
#56 You are sick in the head. I concur with #57
I am PF MP.As an opposition Member of Parliament I feel this Lungwangwa man has gone too far.He needs to be condemned stopped.Ahhhhh! Yahh! What I will do is this.If I fail to stop him, I hope I will, I can just join him.Simple guyz.Shouldn’t I also benefit simply because I am in the opposition.TETI NAIMWE. He has shown us the way. What do you think? Even us in the opposition are humans.
Zoona tukalyeko Abana besukulu mailo, Iam loaded elo ya chikalila
If the minister meant graduation ceremonies for school leavers thats okay becauses it will give chaice to the pupils to remember their last moments with their friends in a peacefull manner. But if he meant wild parties then he better think again or else it will be short happines but long lasting painfull memories for those chaps who wont be carefull during the parties.
I am a parent and my two daughters will be graduating. Imwe fi MMD na fi PF, why can’t you leave our children alone? Teachers are always after them and now you? Rubbish. My fellow parents, how can we save our doughters from these demons? God gave them yo us as gifts and He expects us to guard them lest we go to hell. Please help me I don’t want to go to hell.
Someone has just reminded me that even my neighbours are after them.
