CB Teacher unions not happy with government

Share

The three mother teacher unions in Ndola have expressed displeasure over governments’ plan to increase salaries for constitutional office bearers at the expense of lowly paid civil servants.

Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT), Secondary School Teachers Union (SESTUZ) and Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ), said in a joint statement received by ZANIS, Thursday, that the plan by government is a let down to the lowly paid civil servants.

ZNUT, SESTUZ and BETUZ District leaders Nibbu Nyasulu, Wisdom Mfuzi and Richard Mweetwa respectively, said teachers in Ndola are questioning why government could opt to pay one official K75, 117, 124 as salary, K26, 382, 673 as special allowance and K 26, 680, 000 as utility allowance back dated to January, 2008 and fail to pay K2, 250, 000. as fixed band arrears for 5 months that it owes the teachers.

The Unions have said that they have noted with dismay that one senior government official is able to pay more than 70 teachers in terms of salaries, a development they said was not fair.

They complained that for along time teachers had understood government position on the economy of the country but that it was dismaying to realize that government has never understood the problems teachers are facing.

The Unions have since demanded that government should immediately release the remaining fixed band arrears plus the 10% owner occupier housing allowance with delay.

Meanwhile, the teachers have also implored government to seriously address the escalating prices of mealie meal.

  1. These guys are just too selfish, they dont think about their cousins tammies out there in Shang’ombo despite that they are ones who brought them on the show for the 4 th time. DOWN THE CHALKS AND DUSTERS. VIVA STRIKE.

  2. #1&#3 you dont reason surely a govt that cares cant go to increase salaries now and backdate to january this year when other areas are nt addressed? For a long time nw teachers have been reduced to beggers from nedfin, blue, etc they dont even have a medical insurance, transport and other things. Why shud someone get that much wen majority are suffering.

  3. When UPND promised you ma 3,000,000 you were busy saying ni boza, where will he get the money from? there you are Bwezani has shown you that there is money but only the few will enjoy it. thats why he’s appointing ma ministers two two, including ma deputy miniter naeve two two what for?

  4. Good Lesson to you and stop complaining u thought HH was lieing and u said u didnt want Sata there we go….am not sorry at all..ni poverty big time

  5. I dont know where this world is heading to;
How can a mere ordinary teacher from compare his/her salary with that of HIS EXELLENCY the President of the Republic of Zambia.

    I am shocked!!!

  6. RB and his mates are laughing. Kabili that chi general ichalepepela abalwele mu UTH ne nsapato ishapwa says RB cannot be compared to teachers. Now, RB will be getting more money per month than a single teacher will ever dream about in his/her lifetime. Mwapya.

  7. These are the teachers we have who can not even check that the salaries are annual earnings. Can a teacher honestly get the same money as a countrys representatives(president, vice and ministers).
Rather their argument should be that there salaries and allowances are increased regardless of constitutional office holders salaries.

  8. “The three mother teacher unions in Ndola have expressed displeasure over governments’ plan to increase salaries for constitutional office bearers at the expense of lowly paid civil servants.”

It is no longer “governments’ plan to increase”, but governments’ increased….

  9. #6. MULAMU and 7. Anonymous has crowned it all.On “ZNUT, SESTUZ and BETUZ District leaders Nibbu Nyasulu, Wisdom Mfuzi and Richard Mweetwa respectively, said teachers in Ndola are questioning why government could opt to pay one official K75, 117, 124 as salary, K26, 382, 673 as special allowance and K 26, 680, 000 as utility allowance back dated to January, 2008 and fail to pay K2, 250, 000. as fixed band arrears for 5 months that it owes the teachers.”This is very very sad. I am with you teachers on your demand for your allowances if full and I am proposing a 15% increase towards your salaries.Next time probably in 2011, vote the UPND which has already committed itself to deliver 150% incr.

  10. Teachers you don’t have a united and strong voice, you have so many unions.A house that is divided can not stand.I blame you.By the way, where is Hikaumba?Shame upon him,NCC has intoxicated him,he can not even speak 4 workers.

  11. Teacher’s annual salary is K16 000 000 which is less than a cabinet minister’s Monthly salary, honestly there is something wrong with our salaries’ structure in ZED. This must be changed to motivate the ordinary Zambia.

  12. when people vie for political office i.e. MP, Minister etc they do so to better themselves not the false chorus they parrot, that they are in it for service. Look at how they complain thin out, make faces when dropped! If it is a service & we employ them lets give them what we think is due not them dictating what to get. suddenly a grade 11 minister whats to get more than a PhD Graduate teacher.Zambia sucks. If politicians what good paying jobs, let them apply in corporate and prinvate companies we see if can pass interviews!!@#@?

  13. My advice to you teachers it to go into politics. Vie for the offices of MP ans councillor. Better still you can practice prostitution on the side.

  14. what makes these politicians think they are a special breed from the rest of the citizens? the starting point is to get rid of the toothless leonard hikaumba as zctu prezza. he eats with them while his members are wallowing in poverty.

  15. Southern Province trs must wake up. CB trs are getting fixed band now bcoz they know how to twist govt arm or is it ingombe iilede like u don’t need it?.

  16. It’s time you started fighting for your own.Do not ask for a raise when you see someone has got one.Mano yachinshingwa ayo.

  17. Government leaders are our servants. We put them in office to represent and amplify our views in parliament.Quite interestingly, they didn’t listen to us on the matter of salary increament for constitution office holders.Country men and women, next time we vote, let’s vote for people who will consider our our wishes.”It doesn’t matter which political party they belong to.”
As petrified as you stood on the increament of your salary, dear parliamenterians, stand tall and make sure all civil servants get monthly rewards they deserve, considering the economic hardships being experienced in Zambia. Not only looking at teacher, but ALL CIVIL SERVANTS.I rest my case!
