Renard Relieved After CHAN Qualification

Share

goal!

Herve Renard says it wasn’t easy to win and qualify to next years CHAN
finals in Cote d’Ivoire but is glad the job is done.

Renard said in a post-match interview at Konkola Stadium yesterday
after beating Angola 2-1 to qualify 3-1 on aggregate for the finals to
be held from February 22 to march 8 in Cote d’Ivoire.

“It is always difficult to win 1-0 away against a team like Angola who
were also at the World Cup,” Renard said.

“It was difficult to win today but we are happy we beat Angola but we
have to work very hard now.”

Zambia, who dominated Angola and looked lively led by man-of-the-match
Kennedy Mudenda, took until the final minute of the match to firmly
secure their passage with a late winner even though a draw would have
sufficed.

Lusaka Dynamos midfielder headed in the winner from the near post
after nodding in a long cross from the far left wing from Zesco
United’s Jonas Sakuwaha.

The two teams were level at 1-1 just before the break after Given
Singuluma put Zambia ahead with the opening goal of the match in the
35th minute after he benefited from a fine build-up from Mudenda.

Veteran Angolan striker Love equalized in the 41st minute from the
penalty spot after debutant Emmanuel Mbola from Mining Rangers tackle
from behind inside the box on Job.

Zambia join Libya and Tanzania who also qualified after wins over
Morocco and Sudan respectively on Saturday.

The other four final places are expected too be filled today to join
hosts Cote d’Ivoire at the draws to be conducted on December 26 in
Abidjan.

  1. Congrats Chipolopolo Boys, but we still need to sharpen our strikers and consolidate the defence. I noticed a lot of blunders behind maybe cos of wet ground.

  2. BIG UP RENARD.BIG UP CHIPOLOPOLO BOYZ.BIG UP SOCCER FANS.The only thing that derails my joy is the nature of the stadium where this game was played. Now that the govt.has expressed failure to host the 2011 all african games,we shall continue to use the colonial wornout infrastructures.I know that LEVYS intention of constructing a morden stadium in Ndola died the same day he died.

  3. VIVA ZAMBIA VIVA CHIPOLOPOLO,we are proud of you guys.People should know that you were playing football not netball or rugbby where you score more goals. The good thing is that we qualified.Playing world cup envoys like ANGOLA is never a simple thing.Always we should be postive of the out come.Shame to bloggers who were saying zambia will loose 4-0 to Angola. We won, simple, after all good and tough encounters are won not by greater margins but slight ones like 1-o.
Lets support our local team people for the better future. These are young players who are capable of delivering results as evidenced by the past few games. Local players are now super like our late foks, lets give them support.

  4. VIVA ZAMBIA VIVA CHIPOLOPOLO,i am very happy abt these results because its never an easy game to play a team like angola.wat we need to do nw is work on our weeknesses nw so th@ the team can represent us adiduately at the tournament..congrats boys keep it up.u hav made zambia proud.

  5. Looks like the stadium was empty. What happened? Is it because miners were protesting after loosing their jobs, may be the CB financial ressetion or may be cameraman was out side,or this was training session in the picture. Its like UBUNGA NABUDULA SANA or TUPAMELA BALEETUNA SANA? CILI SHANI BANE ABENA CB LANDENI?

  6. #1,——- #12, has insulted you big time. Iam offended too. LT PLEASE CENSOR THIS BLOGGER!!!!!!!!!!Please guys refrain from insults.. its so nauseating…..+grow up….

  9. #21 Thanks. Ifintu kuno fili fye bwino…I wonder what #12 posted, it must have been an atomic insult. Thank God I never saw it.

  10. Well done Zambia!!!! Unfortunately the under – 20 team was humbled at the COSAFA tournament. That is the name of the game: You win some you lose some. Draws are not accepted (aahhh…aaahhhh!!!)

Fellow Zambians, what is the current feelings regarding the coach? He did not inspire confidence when he was apoointed.(due to coaching experience and age) Guess so far so good??

  11. All progressive nations do excel at sport. Just check them and see. Now if your best stadium is konkola stadium that shows that the authorities do not give a damn about sport. They dont seem to realise the big role it plays in building a healthy nation physically and mentally and politically. The Iraq national soccer team brought enemies together in celebration of the Asian Nations Cup title. Mwebena Zambia Ba Rupiah Banda ba Mopani ala bukeni!!

  12. =d>

Bravo! bravo! We are winning again. Now lets get the cup!

Iyeeeee Chipolopolo! Iyeeeeeeee Chipolopolo! Hahaha, Tuta! Yeah, thats what I’m talking about.

    :d

  13. **== Yeah! you see that? Another Soccer extravganza awaits us and our flag is gonna fly high. Hahaha. Lelo twalandiko icisungu ca ma yo bally. Ni Zeeeee.

  14. Goooooooooooooooooal!!! The Mexican way hahaha. it is good to win important games. Zambia usually crumbles under pressure during important games that really matter like this one. So to win this game showed the strong character of our chipolopolo team. Hopefully they will take this winning mentality to CECAFA, CHAN and Egypt. Talking about Egypt how is the team going to prepare for this crucial game while playing at the CHAN tournament? Hopefully, the coach and administration will plan accordingly and not lose focus because it is all about the 2010 World Cup baby! Good job boys!!

  15. Well done. But we can do better. Complecency at this stage wont do us any good at all, as always been the case. Renard really needs to solidify this team.

  16. Well done, however, I really doudt the recorgnition of this tournament having looked at the teams that have qualified eg Tanzania. I really dont think FIFA rates this tournamnt highly. I dont think this is something that renard come here to fulfil. These are just like friendly games played in small crowds.

Renard should be judged during the world cup qualifying games.

  17. Very positive result.Christmas has indeed come early. CECAFA will also help us fine tune the team. Looks like Renard is good at talent development. Nice to hear a 16 year old player from an unknown team making his debut at the expense of experienced players like Francis Kasonde. In the meantime Clifford Mulenga is redhot in South Africa. he created a penalty and scored the winner as Wits University beat Bloem Celtic 2-1.
    Go Zambia go!!!

  18. i have been a serious critic of the chipolopolo.Time & again they vindict me.This one was a rare feet and I commend them. Tough encounters lie ahead, the tournament should be used to bring out some talent & experience to the local lad’s. Good for them4qualifying. that staduim was water logged!! ha shame on us. we have the poorlest of facilities & wrong chaps ruling us. No wonder failed to host 1988 ACN & Now 2011 All Africa games.

  19. That’s good news for the Zambia. Take this tournament as preparations for world cup qualifiers. The front line is still not sharp enough. The technical bench must work on the striking combination that will tick. For now, It’s bravo chipolopolo! =d>**==

  20. i watched the game do we have cameras ba znbc? it looked like we only had one.we could not view properly.can someone buy us video cameras and sent those guys for trainning so we can at least be able to watch from all angles?

  21. Pa ZAMBIA UBUPUBA BWALICHILAMO. I KNEW THIS CORRUPT GOVT WOULD PULL OUT FROM HOSTING THE ALL AFRICA GAMESIN 2011. BUT ZAMBIA KWENA IS A JOKE NSHAMONAPO ICHALO CHAMUSANGO UYU. NSHAKABWELE CHAPWA. MUKALACHULAFYE IFIFINE AS LONG AS FI MWADYA MWEKA DADDY FILETEKA.

  22. ye mayo!ka football pitch, imwe ka goal post, olo ni home sweet homo, plz do something about independence stad napapata, mutinvesa nsoni.
However, congrats boys and plz go get CECAFA starting next week,we’re behind yu.

  23. GOOD JOB BA ZAMBIA,CONTINUE WORKING HARD.THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.YOU WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO MARKET YOUR SELF TO THE BIG CLUBS,ALL THE BEST

  24. **==**==**==job welldone guys, actuall we are behind you, what has happened to morocco, are they out of CHAN 2009?MEANWHILE WE WONT HOST 2011 ALL AFRICA GAMES!!!too bad….

  25. # 7, Nambala one is a proud, strong LT tradition which you would do well to ask about before you use such corrosive language. i havent done it yet but hey its fun!
To the chipolopolo,i say we are proud of you guys.

    GaZZiE B

  26. The Boys lucked concentration at one time!.Jonas should step up his game if he wants to become even a better striker. There was one time where he failed to stop the ball until to rolled out for a touch giving Angola a throw-in which even when he should have done better.

  27. we dont even have the infrastructure to host the all africa games. These guys were in dreamland. How long has it taken them to fix Independence Stadium or rebuild Dag? lets set realistic goals. This is was a great opportunity that we have spurned. Meanwhile, facilities or no facilities TULEYA BAICHE!!!!! look at Adebayo, the boy was from the hood with zero facilities but he’s made it. Alot of the brazilian players started humbly and have done well. Take heart countrymen, our boys will breakthrough slowly but surely.

  28. The dilapidated state of Konkola stadium,as depicted in the picture, left me agape with wonder whether indeed we are ready for the big time. Bloggers have been hurling insults at govt for pulling out of the 2011 games yet this stadium would be one of the top notch venues for the games.Trust me FIFA is only being nice to us because the bush playground depicted in the picture would not pass for an international venue in most countries by their own, not FIFAs, standards. We lack necessary infrastructure consistent with 21st century technology and standards. To be able to host a successful event we need a 20year projection with a commitment to a 15year infrastructural development.

  29. I know in my limited nyanja (or is it?)that Mpholopolo means bullet. Can someone please explain the derivitive of Chipolopolo and what it actually means? How and why was it found the most suitable or fitting nickname for the national team? Pardon me if i sound ridiculous its just that i need to learn the history behind the moniker.I Appreciate your time guys.

  30. Mr couch congrats for the win if the team had lost, you could have had a very good xmass present knowing our soccer fans. You could have been fired thru the press.Piece of advise dont relax now, this should be your starting point…ya yamba yamba boola manje for you show us what you are made of Mr couch.. As for your strickers, encourage them to try and push in for more goals.
    Once again congrats boyz……

  31. 62, please Chipolopolo is bemba for bullets, slang or real Bemba, I don’t know. Chipolopolo is real and original, everybody in Africa knows that name. No change please to what? Rats? Mbuzi? The name comes from the song Ba Zambia Eiyee Chipolopolo.

  32. we expected the results, hope our expectations will always be reached as it happened. All the best guys, we shall always be cheering you as you play.

  34. #65 Milanzi is selling bubble gums in Luanda and Mwape Miti is cleaning windows in Denmark. Why do you need them? This is 2008 and not 2002!

  35. USambian #62 unlike those who have misunderstood your querry let me explain. Chipolopolo used to be the name of the soccer fans. They sung a one liner going “Chipolopolo iyee!” in Chibemba of course as Shidada #64 explains. It has never been the official name of Zambia. It was only after the 1996 finals in South Africa when the Zambian soccer fans painted every town red (green actually)with their vociferous celebrations that the media in South Africa picked on the name and gave it to bronze winning Zambia. Previously there were debates as to which one was an appropriate nickname for Zambia. In the hat was Mighty Zambia.. Eagles etc but after 1996 the debate ended.
