CSAWU applauds fuel reduction

Share

Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union (CSAWU) has commended the Government for the reduction of pump fuel prices in the country.

CSAWU Kitwe District Chairman Denny Maluti said the gesture by the Government was welcome, though long over due.

Mr. Maluti told ZANIS in Kitwe today that the measure which the Government has taken would have a multiplier effect that would lower the cost of doing business and result in the reduction of prices for essential commodities such as mealie meal and other services which have sky rocketed in the country.

He said workers have been negatively affected for so long, especially the lowly paid civil servants.

Mr. Maluti also challenged the millers and transporters to stop using the excuse of high fuel prices to exploit the consumers now that the fuel prices have been reduced.

Mr. Maluti said the transporters should adjust their bus fares in view of the reduced fuel prices announced by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB), to pass on the benefit to the common man.

  1. we hope it will go on like this but i know january will bring different direction on fuel.We thank the oil producers for reducing the price of crude oil.Our govt cant achieve it with their calculations without the markert dictatating the course.

  2. Great news and contribution Mr Maluti.

On “Mr. Maluti also challenged the millers and transporters to stop using the excuse of high fuel prices to exploit the consumers now that the fuel prices have been reduced.”

I feel these named stakeholders must take your challenge seriously. =d>

  3. i hope the lower prices will be sustained for long period to allow
bussines houses plan properly.the same should be done to stabilise
    the kwacha

  4. I mean you dont have to be a mathematician to know that fuel on the international market has been reduced by over 120%, the question would be why not reduce the fuel near the same margins guys………does any of you bloggers have an answer?

  5. #9 yes I have an answer Iwe. The Kwacha collapsed because of your PF cadres threats to demo. Its has started picking up and if it goes to the 3000 level you will see fuel come down by a significant decrease. RB is working. The Economist in in charge, just watch how he stirs this ship out of the troubled waters..

  6. #9 Also forgot to add that some of you should go back to school and repeat that maths class you used to dodge and go in the bush to just enjoy june sunshine. Come on my friend you can not reduce something by over 100 %. If you reduce by 120 % it means you are paying people to use oil. So that Maths teacher was not as bad as you thought my friend. Now the joke is on you.

  7. Ha ha…#13 you are really a MMD bootlicker mwandi……what I mean is that fuel on the international market has reduced from over USD 148 per barrel to about USD 42 per barrel. That is over 100% reduction for sure!!!!!!! unless you attended the community school in your neighbourhood……..our prices didnt start from zero man, they are being quoted from say K3500 per litre to K7800 per litre and now they are being reduced from K7800 per litre to K5800 per little. The percenteges there are far from collerating bootlicker??? what is your take????

  8. Fuel Prices should be around K3000 per litre. We dont need to thank anyone for price reduction. Viva Man Utd for winning lunch time kick-off at Stoke. The fuel producing nations are also having it rough just as we are going through a rough time due to low copper price

  9. #15 Stop making a embarrasing yourself like that. This is a public forum. Please fellow kabovas educate yourfriend

  10. 15. AlfredT I was going to overlook you contribution but for some other people who lack arithmetic (not necessarily mathematics) understanding’s sake, I decided to do a calculation for you over the reduction using your numbers.

    Here we go:

    (148 – 42)USD/148USD * 100 = 71.622%

Hence, the reduction is not “over 100% reduction for sure!!!!!!! unless you attended the community school in your neighbourhood” as you put it. In fact, I am wondering as to who attended a community school between the 2 of you even if such school teach good enough Arithmetics.

  11. Give the motoring public a break remove or review all the excess taxation on fuel.
ERB please give a break down of the forecourt fuel price.

  12. Maestro # 18 you are indeed a true master and your name fits perfectly. i like your analysis of the fuel situation, you even took the trouble to make some calculations!! very impressive i must say..keep up the good work, you’ve made my day. i don’t think the two in question will ever argue again after your analysis lol hope you had a good xmas!!

  13. 21. AlfredT, you are very welcome.

I am now out for a Sabbath day recess as pointed out in the Holy Scriptures in Genesis 1:5, Exodus 20:8 amd I think Ezekiel 20:20 with other references in the book of Duetoronomy.

May you all have a blessed day.

  14. 22. Neutral greetings, thanks and keep well. Also, refer to #23 above. Some other day then, by God’s grace.

  15. I hope everybody had a merry xmas. This headline was one of my wishes for the new year. Let’s hope there’s more good news to come in 2009, we’ve had enough bad news in 2008.

  16. The credit for reducing fuel cannot go to RB a lone because this action is long overdue and without the PF chief Michael Sata pushing for it, nothing would have been done. Common Mr Sata, push RB to reduce PAYE it is too much for the average poor worker. We give credit to Mr Sata. Bravo to u. Come 20011 the ball is yours again. RB has no vision and is merely consulting widely.

  17. The reduction in fuel prices will have a positive impact on our economy. The reduction is as a result of the falling price of crude oil on international market. #9 it is imposible to lower the price of any product in the world by more than 100%. You can only lower upto 99.999%.

  18. You guys # 9 is using a certain index. may be the december 2007 price. So it is possible. ask him which price index he is using. So who does know mathematics? judge yourselves. :-w:-w:)>-:)>-

  19. #9
how do ou lower the price by 100%????
its just impossible to do so.
i believe the reduction of fuel prices is caused by the world market, not the Govt.

  20. Dont just look at the reduced price of fuel at the world market, u should as well take into consideration the Dollar- Kwacha relationship. The souring of the Kwacha disadvantaged the gain we were supposed to enjoy by the reduction of fuel. So what the gvment has done is commendable. Lets not just make noise. For Zambia to prosper lets make do with what is partaining on the ground. We dont have a Sata we have Banda so lets help him build Zambia by giving him support.

  21. You know if we all love Zambia and love Zambians, we all would not let RB destroy Zambia, because if we do, even abobene Ba Sata mufwaya will fail because he will have to struggle to put Zambia back on its feet and the ten year term is too short to see results. Think of first wasting time on trying to bring back the economy to acceptable levels and then start implementing developmental programms. This can goble a full three terms. And we can not allow anyone to go three terms. Thank u.

  22. These union leaders seem to be nothing but i*d*iots You can not thank the Govt for fuel price reduction. Zambia is buying fuel at $42 dollars a barrel and selling it to the Zambians at $125.00 dollars a barrel what are these union leaders thanking the Govt for?

  23. Compliments of the season to you all. Its good that the oil prices have dropped, lets only hope that this goes on for a long while. This will definately give other sectors of the economy e.g the food industries etc to plan well. This way, we will be able to talk of reducing prices on other commodities.
