A named man and woman of Ndopu village in Chief Sekute’s area in Kazungula District were on Monday crushed to death by an elephant in two separate incidences.
Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) Area Warden Stephen Malungo named the deceased as Margaret Situmbeko, 63 and John Mengo 28 both of Ndopu village in chief Sekute in Southern Province.
Mr. Malungo confirmed the sad news in an interview with ZANIS in Livingstone today.
He said the elephant first attacked the man who was coming from town and later pounced on the woman who had gone to buy some food stuffs from a nearby shop.
He expressed sadness over the incident but said that ZAWA was making efforts to track down the elephant to bring it under control.
ZAWA has recorded 129 reports of Human and Animal Conflict since January this year.

Infact it is a mr Ndopu’s wife who died and not villagers from Ndopu village not true LT, the village is Sinde .
Mr. and Mrs Ndopu were on there way to home when they encountered the lone elephant chased them later the elephant trampled the wife and husband went hiding.

Killing the elephant is not the solution, it also has the right to life just like human beings. Solution lies in sustainable development that allows both human and animal to live in harmony under this only planet we have. Animals have been deprived of the areas where they are supposed to survive due to the increase in our population which led to grabbing land from the animals. Lets control our (human) population growth so that we reduce on the animal-human conflict

Very sure, under sustainable development people use approaches that dont compromise the very resource base that sustains them which includes animals coz these animals have a significant role to play in the environment that as human being we cant play. The bottom line is every item or creature on earth is as important as the other coz of the interdependance among them.
They say when elephants behave like that it is because of its own bad experience with people.Maybe someone had tried to attack it for its ivory before.
Even if they kill the elephant, the conflict won’t end. In Europe they ended up killing all the animals except squirrels. I don’t think we want to take that route.

Sad news. I hear Elephants normally move together in herds, so if you see an isolated one then it’s up to no good. This one probably lost the others and is aggressive.

mwana u dont know what u r talking about. those things run faster than u think. climbing a tree is certain dead. survival when attacked by an elephant depends on tact , speed and a huge dose of extremely good luck. if it attacks u and u dont die on the spot, u definately die at home anyway.
a couple and the baby on the back were crushed to death in L/stone about a year ago or two. the better term to explain is “crushed to mince”. am not sure but i hear elephants have a very good memory such when you provoke it and manage to escape, whether 5 years ago,your image will appear as vividly.
Elephants are supposed to be very peaceful animals. i would like to think it must have been provoked – not necessarily by the victims but by other humans who got away. Elephants do not forget easily. Poachers could have been the culprits – perhaps they killed the elephants’ young. The elephant had better be killed because it will keep on going on a trampling spree. Keep away!

Kill that animal don’t tame it. Even in the bible when a wild animal killed a human being it was to be put to death. Its a murderer. Don’t forget it might attack you next time. Animals don’t have a right to live more than a human being. The constitution is to protect humans not animals tough luck.
Nature wouldnt have allowed animals to be in existence if humans were special but there is a special reason why animals exist. Human and animal have same right to life and by the way animals are not murderers they just balance nature. Population control

the elephant should not be killed. only a retard would fail to outrun an elephant. i mean come on…how fast can they run? and these people should go live somewhere else and leave these elephants alone.
