The Speaker of the National Assembly has not yet declared

vacant the Mpulungu and Katuba parliamentary seats two weeks after the expulsion of Lameck Chibombamilimo and Jonas Shakafuswa from the MMD.

Amusaa Mwanamwambwa has however, asked the two MPs to state their next course of action before he acts.

National Assembly Media Liaison Officer, Chikomeni Banda confirmed this to ZNBC news in Lusaka.

Mr. Banda said Mr. Chibombamilio and Mr. Shakafuswa are still attending parliament.

He explained that the Speaker will proceed to declare the seats vacant if the two MPs indicate that they will not challenge their expulsion in court.

Mr. Banda said the speaker is still awaiting response from Mr Chibombamilimo and Mr Shakafuswa after the MMD notified him of their expulsions.

The MMD National Executive Committee recently expelled the two MPS from the ruling party for alleged gross misconduct.

President Banda last month sacked Mr Chibombamilimo and Mr Shakafuswa from his government where they served as Deputy Ministers.

  1. Hope the NCC will consider ways of appointing an acting MP in case of expulsions as loads of money is wasted of by-elections.

  2. Laughing with Shaka like this, Nyama Soya does not like! Musokotwane should start counting his days in office.

  3. I see these actions as retrogressive. The party was not on the ballot, but individuals. Once you are expelled from the party, you should be able to complete your term and if people want you in that area, they can vote back as an independent. These MPs are not appointed by the party after the party wins a seat, but the party sides with them and in some cases the party picks candidates because these candidates can do better in winning these parties more seats. So, why spend more even when we know the fact? These actions are not in our constitution and not in the party constitutions. So, were does this idea come from? In fact the speaker in these cases abuses his powers by doing so.

  4. Nice move Hon. Mr. Speaker…..whats good for the goose should be good for the gander…….but then again, it’s Zambian politics we are looking at, SHAME!!!!

  5. Bwana speaker is in a fix. He has to decide on Sinyangwe and others expelled from PF or else he himself will go if he cannot declare the two MMD seats vacant..

  6. We are waiting and watching to see how far the speaker goes with this cases. He has visibly supported the rebel PF Mps and now we will see how he will deal with Shakas and Chibombamilimo case. Its a litmus test.
