  1. I knew the Lady when she was Ambassador here in Germany in the 90’s !! MHSRIP !! One of the intellectuals that Zambia had.

  2. That is very sad news. Her party and ideas were heads above the present neoliberal IMF led non-policies. From Gwen Konie’s profile:

” The SDP’s policy also focuses on the need to re-evaluate the education system. “We still have the colonial education system. We need a council on education to analyze and chart the direction of education in line with the economic direction we want to go in.

“We must encourage community education, agricultural development and investment and enterprise development at the level of communities,” Konie said. “

  3. Sad indeed!! MHSRIP.I remember Konie as our Ambassador to the UN and as a presidential aspirant whose manifesto was people-centred.She had a motherly heart.

  4. MHSRIP Ladies and Gentlemen the Late was also an Educational Icon. Hope you Remember the once well know KINGSTONES BOOK STORE she once Owned on Cairo RD. It was the only best bookstore that was around those days. Hope we could try to do a Foundation on her behalf either in her name, bookstore or her deeds. THESE WERE GREAT ZAMBIAN WOMEN am sure the likes of MAMA KANKASA would approve this message.

  5. May her Soul Rest in Peace and condolences to her bereaved family. Indeed she did her part to boost women involvement in politics and attempting the Zambian Presidency in an election. I will miss here very much.

  6. Yangu ba Gweny, this news is a shock to me! My heartfelt condolensces to her family whom I know very well. She took very good care of me as Ambassador when I was a student in the early 90s. MHSRIP.

  7. Selfless, Intellectual, respectable, inspirational and Dynamic lady. MHSRIP

Zambia has lost a gallant fighter.

  8. I met Ms Konie in New York in ’99 when I was attending Under Grad School. She was such an articulate woman. She will be dearly missed by a lot whom she influenced with her simple but well thought out reasoning. Very principled and well read.

  9. Ba Mwine, she was quite old and I’m not sure what the problem was but she was okay and was at a function last Sunday and she was in high spirits. What a lovely woman. It’s good to see so many kind comments about a woman who was a geniunely lovely person! God bless her and I feel for her family.

  10. Thank you all for your kind words. My grandmother was indeed a fighter and very articulate woman. MHSRIP. We will all miss you grandma. Much love
