Police officer detained for drinking on duty

Share

A named police officer from Magoye police post, who was found drunk on duty, has been detained at Mazabuka Police station. This follows orders by Magoye Member of Parliament, Bennie Mweemba, to have the officer punished.

Both police and Mr Mweemba confirmed the detention of the officer to ZANIS in Mazabuka today.

Mr Mweemba said he ordered the detention of the officer because he found him drunk and unable to perform his duties while complainants waited for a long time without being attended to.

He said he will not tolerate indiscipline among police officers especially those that drink beer on duty.
Mr Mweemba said the officer will only be released from custody tomorrow.

“This chap ran away from me as I attempted to bundle him in my car. So what I did was to phone the Officer in charge who complained of fuel but I had to provide them with fuel in order for them to pick him. He will only be discharged tomorrow,’’ said Mweemba.

He also urged the Inspector General of Police to ensure that police officers reporting for work while drunk are fired because they are denting the good image of the police service.

Mazabuka District Commissioner, Tyson Hamaamba, also confirmed the development and said he would only issue a detailed report after receiving a police report.

Mazabula police station is another station where some police officers report for work drunk.

  1. Hi Bloggers, First of all i do not like the new LT system. Actually, cops who drink on duty should not be spared at all. Cops are supposed to be repsonsible people due to the nature of their job. Can you imagine a drunken cop brandishing a gun….

  2. i would be drunk too if my work couldnt afford gas to come and arrest me! LMAO. just fire him why arrest him?

  3. #2. first off ethanol which is a chemical name fro alcohol damages the liver. alcoholics regardless of whether they drink kachasu or vodka are at a high risk of liver disease.

  4. Go To Chilenje Police station(Janet Sakala Police Camp). Those cops drink on duty like no mans business though they are smart enough not to sleep.

  5. There are disciplinary procedures in the Police Service like in any other organization that would have dealt with the officer’s misconduct. For the MP to have him locked up is overstepping his mandate. In another country the MP and the police could be liable for wrongful imprisonment. Dictators are not born, they are made, lest we forget. Yes he ought to be punished, but by his employers, not by the MP.

  6. I would have been very happy if the same happened to Kambwili when he went to parliament drank. This same MP would have called for the same action since boath are public servant.it shouldnt be like Animal Farm where some are more equal than others
