Ndola health workers continue strike, dare govt. to fire them

Share

Striking health workers in Ndola have resolved not to go back for work until government meets their demands.

The striking workers made the resolution this afternoon at Kansenshi cemetery when they regrouped after being chased by riot police from their usual meeting place, Ndola Central Hospital, where they had met earlier in the day.

Civil Servants and Allied Workers of Zambia (CSASWUZ) Ndola District Chairperson Joy Beene who is also spokesperson for the combined striking health workers said the workers are ready to be fired as long as government gives them their dues upon being fired.

The irate workers who gathered at the grave yard vowed not to return to work until government meets their demands.

The workers have resolved that they will continue to meet at Kansenshi cemetery until government gives them their demands or fires them all and gives them their money so that they could go and work abroad.

“We shall continue to meet here (Kansenshi cemetery) until the government gives us our demands or fires us so that we can go and work in the United Kingdom,’ they shouted.

And in a related development, the striking health workers have demanded for the immediate removal of both the Minister of Health, Kapembwa Simbao and the Health Permanent Secretary, Velepi Mtonga from the health ministry, arguing that the duo have tremendously failed the Ministry.

The workers demanded that Dr. Brian Chituwo be taken back to the Ministry because he understands their plight better.

The nurses are demanding a salary increment of K1.5 million across the board, uniform, night and risk allowances.

  1. Health workers it is now or never. Dont go for work otherwise this rb admin will never ever give you your cash. They will never fire you already there is shortage of nurses in our country. This leadership should feel shame.

  2. This problem can be resolved. GRZ should lead by example. Scrap increments to pre levy times, suspend gratuity for Mps stop freign trips for a while and then they ll have authority to meet the nurses at the negotiating table. Am sure the nurses dont want all there demands met. They want to be met midway but GRZ is stuck on one extreme without moral authority to comand a peaciful resolution of this problem. At school we leant that deligation does not mean abroggation of duty. You delegate but the resposibility is still yours. The labour minister is a delegate of RB, its RB’s job but HE said at his press briefing that its not his job to handle labour disputes but rather the labour ministers’! What is his job description? Can someone help me please! Threats of dismissal ll just make it…

  3. Just pay them please. Why is RB and his minion so meen kanshi? MP’s gratuity is around the corner just cut the cash from there and pay the nurses kwapwa. Tatwamimwenemo ati mwazomba awe. Its our poor people that will suffer/die and not you.

  4. Masala, Kabushi and Senior Boys…help sort out the riot police. Ifinyamunyamu should come into action now!

  5. Both paties are wrong the govt. should have handled this matter well. how do you increase the doctors allowances and increase a small percentage for other health workers.
To the nurses striking does not solve problems either, you should have allowed your unions to do the negotiations… people are dying in hospitals imagine if they were your relatives or family.
in as much as we sympasize with the civil servants.. we are also concerned with those who have lost there lives which could have been prevented.

  6. 38 things r goin from bad to worse in Zambia even reaching an extent of meeting kumanda…We shal wait n see wat wil befall RB,nurses @ da cemetry n monkey peeing on him?????? I smell danger, may God deliver us

  7. Banda is as stubborn as Idi amin, and they look alike. Will he wake up when the nation is literally on fire, my guesse is he still shall be in denial.
Viva workers soliderity. We shall not relent.

  8. The catch-word iz to reach compromize and move forward for the sake of the patients who both partiez shud put first and thrive to serve.

  9. Please uko ku Ndola Central Hospital engege GRZ constructively to resolve the impass otherwise your dealing with Heartless pipo. Let us get back to work and chart way forward. Its not a win win situation all the time.Remember during Chluba time Doctors got fired and its same MMD except that head drivers have changed hands. Thye will make it difficult for few who will be identfied as ring leaders to reapply. They are ruthless get from me. Their priorities are misplaced, no drugs andequipment to save lives but they find money at costs to buy chinese harmers and mobile hospitals. You be surprised, they have swayed our attention to strikes in the meantime moble hospitals are on their way to Zambia. Let us be watchful

  10. can they pliz be fired so that we continue with important things.. we can always find people..lots of people would kill for a job..who do they think they are?

  11. Births in public, Monkeys’ pee, cemetery meetings, were is this guy taking the country? Soon he shall run mad. Does he think he is ayatollah?

  12. Good resolve for threats should never be entertained.

This “And in a related development, the striking health workers have demanded for the immediate removal of both the Minister of Health, Kapembwa Simbao and the Health Permanent Secretary, Velepi Mtonga from the health ministry, arguing that the duo have tremendously failed the Ministry. The workers demanded that Dr. Brian Chituwo be taken back to the Ministry because he understands their plight better.” sounds nice also.

It is time non-performing people are asked to resign or be taken elsewhere/removed completely by their appointing authority.

However, what will be done if their appointing authority does not heed your call, health workers? There should always be plan B and C.

    Prevention is better than…

  13. Stick to your guns. They have taken you for granteed for a long time. Teach them a lesson any gvt that takes over should be remembering. You are very important in other countries. Its only in Zambia where civil servants are treated as rubbish. Its better you are all fired at once than a few.

  14. Doctors and nurses need to know what the long and short term goals are regarding their well being in the health industry …If the nurses and doctors know there is a practical plan and vision being implemented regarding their wages and benefits . It surely makes a difference….. Long term … If these nurses and doctors are frustrated it will be 99% more expensive to get imported ones. Nurses and doctors know they are one of the most valuable people in a community. Whatever decision or statements being made must be done with respect, negotiation and wisdom. Zambia needs it’s nurses and doctors PLUS they are a very productive sector of Zambia

  15. Leadership by intimidation at its best … what do you think RB. What do you take Zambians for???
MMD and its hero worshipers are the same ones that were busy saying SATA is a dictator, he’d bring war when voted in to power…mmm…what then do we say about MMD with respect to their form of leadership????

I think we need a Military government to discipline the government officials a little bit!

  16. chapwa number 21.. wats wrong with you? were u born in a koloboyi olo shani? havent u heard of the term inflation? which outside hut did you attend as school?

  17. Why now turn fire on Dr. Velepi Mtonga, the poor woman just got appointed to her current position demanding her resignation or removal and that of Kapambwe Simbao is not a solution. The problem is with the whole GRZ system. Even the scum of K27Billion being querried by Donars is not he problem of Health Ministry alone. It involves the entire GRZ system. The police sealed off the entire ministry HQ and went through all documents. Today we are being told that some vital documents are missing. It smells a rat. The investigating wings of GRZ were very fast in releasing the information of the alleged scum now it has blown up in their faces. The Kapoko K1.9Billion is turning out to be a purely business transaction according to his Lawyer. What next. Let us be alert and donors dont let GRZ of huk
