Zambia’s body of Christ has done little about repenting ever since Prophet David Edward Owuor warned the nation, last May and June, of God’s wrath. Except for few undertones and far cries, no one is setting the ball rolling to reverse the situation like the people of Nineveh who were spared because they repented and proclaimed a fast.
Late last May, Owuor flew to Lusaka and spoke on Trinity Broadcasting Network Zambia (TBZ) television. He made another trip to the city, within two weeks, for a three day meeting at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
In all instances, his message called for the church to bring its evils to a halt, particularly sermons that centre on prosperity and not holiness. He said the love of money is leading the church not to focus on Jesus Christ but lies, false prophesies, witchcraft and sexual immorality.
While Zambia has increasingly become a permissive society with a casual attitude towards moral purity, the nation is playing down the prophet’s warning. In fact soon after Owuor’s message on TBZ, his host, chairman and CEO of the station, Apostle Dan Pule, said, “Don’t stop giving money to your churches. The church needs money to do its activities.” He added, “The prophet came by plane and is staying in an hotel. All that needs money.”
What is intriguing is fasting and prayer for matters such as the rains and peace usually take centre stage in the land. But why all the indifference? One certainty is that Zambians are too busy with the cares of this world.
Since most people are unemployed and Zambia, like many African countries, does not offer unemployment benefits, almost everyone has business aspirations or already doing business of some sort. Again, as most gross monthly salaries range between 250,000 to 1.5 million Kwacha (50 to 300 US dollars), everyone has joined the money-hunting party.
As such, Zambians today no longer rest on holidays. Rather they open their shops and market stalls, with some Christians staying away from church because of work. One Nigerian living in the country since the late 90s said of this, “Zambians have now woken up. They now know that in the real world you have to work on Sundays otherwise you eat nothing.”
Many have internalized this view. But Christians know it’s an apparent violation of God’s law with the intended effect of being hellbound. What’s more, making amends with The Most High is a must because when God speaks, the directions must be taken seriously and obeyed immediately. One is appalled when God’s people sin but try to justify themselves.
Elijah Seyama, a Pastor in Lusaka said, “What that man of God from Kenya said is true. We need to balance our messages and cut off the sins that he cited.”
Prophet Owuor’s track record is splendid. If the Christian nation does nothing at all, the world will witness great weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Firstly, on this: “The prophet came by plane and is staying in an hotel. All that needs money.” Please LT this is wrong English because the “H” in Hotel is never silent. hence you cannot use an but a before the word hotel. Don’t teach us some Indian English in here! You can use “an” before H. o. t. e. l as a spelling but not as one word.
Secondly, which pastors at the moment are majoring on prosperity messages? Even if they did I don’t think that God will punish the whole country to the point of gnashing of teeth because of those messages. Moreover, prosperity messages are biblical. Jesus said “I came so that you can have life and have it more abundantly” as recorded in John. God will punish the adulterers, thieves,…
What do you expect when religion has become big business? Mr Pule also, you can reduce the costs by accomodating some of these people in your homes. Were there lodges in the first century? Well, yes! How do we know? Remember the illustration Jesus gave of the good samaritan? Where did he leave the injured jew? Yes, at a lodge. But then when Paul and other first century preachers went preaching, where would they sleep? The bible tells us they were accomodated by fellow christians. Why? Most likely because of the cost? Why can’t these so called men of God lodge with there fellow “christians”?

Well consider Paul who had to contend with a thorn in the flesh and Timothy who had frequent cases of Stomach problems.
We really have to be careful with every message that is preached on the pulpit today. There is always a potential of exaggerating everything and anything to suet a particular need. Preachers can preach amiss an prophets can prophesy their own mind. The word of God tells us every prophesy should be tested. This does not imply we should never trust the word of God.

I last saw him in 1996 or so. I left that place in December, 1997.

The world of God tells us every thing about the fate of a country that turns its back against the living God. What preachers often forget to add is that while heathens can also benefit from Gen 8:22, it would be more useful for Christians if Joshua 1:8 is added “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth…for then will you make your way prosperous, and then you will have GOOD success”. Also, Matt 6:33″seek first the kingdom of God….” That means there are conditions for prosperity even when you give and only when they are met can one experience prosperity and GOOD success. And good success can even come out in terms of you reminding God to remember you on any need; Nehemiah 13:14 “remember me, O my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for its service”.

Although some preachers have also gone ahead to assert that scripture like “Bring all tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house” was referring to their house whether in Kabulonga, Mpatamatu or Mulambwa. Far from it. This Pastor has seen something wrong in Zambia what about where he comes from, Kenya. There are similar problems. What he is forgetting is that society is dynamic. Zambians cannot be left behind, we need these earthly resources to solve our many problems we are facing as individuals and collectively as a nation of Zambia.
