The Chief complained to ZANIS in Mazabuka today, that his chiefdom has remained under developed despite investors making huge profits from their investment.
He said he would not regret his decision because the investors have not been involved in community projects such as road rehabilitation, schools and health care services to the community.
Chief Hanjalika said while he appreciates the investment for creating job opportunities, the Zambian workers were equally paid slave wages despite working for long hours.
The traditional ruler said once the investor is chased, no impact will be felt by the community because they are equally bitter with the investors for failing to provide community services.
Chief Hanjalika said there is need for investors to emulate Albidon Mine and Zambia Sugar PLC that have been involved in community services.
Among the investors operating in Chief Hanjalika include Uniturtle which owns a Lime Mine.
Chief Hanjalika of the Tonga people in Mazabuka district… This is what I have just been talking about in another post. I lived under Chief Hanjalika near Chivuna but I was not at all Tonga. I was happy to have him as my chief.
If RB wont do it, Chief Hanjalika will do it. I hope the investors have heard.
Stop being a parasite. Press your MP to press GRZ for projects. Stop wanting things for free. Those investors already pay hefty taxes. You are making your pipo reliant on free things, come up with joint busness plans and take to the investors instead of demanding free handouts.
These chieves must also have plans for their lives and people…why do you want an invest to come and make your land a paradise??…have plans first! then approch the investors with plans and set of your rules….always remember investors are business people NOT donors!

Or these investors must have a clause whereby the community is developed e.g. road infrastructure, educational programs…Zambia does not want to be like Nigeria they are a rich oil producing villages but the people in that village live in poverty.

# 8 what u said is what tringered unrest in the Nigeria province.. Good point. These investors are milking the owner of natural resources without thinking of the people living nearby. In Delta region of Nigeria I saw an oil refinary just burning 100m from a mud house. What does the owner of that mud house benefit from the oil company???? They pay tax and must must pay to residents of the area they get resources from. good healthy facilities and roads in the region. $50-100 dollar per month is that good salary?? NO NO.. $1,500 – $2,000 per is abit OK
It is not up to the investors to build roads and infrastructure. Any wise government would make sure that the tax structure includes a local tax to the area council. This would enable the council to spend the money on local amenities. I would expect councils like Kitwe and Solwezi to be very wealthy. Unfortunately MMD have usurped the power councils used to have. Perhaps these royal establishments should get together, work out tax proposals and put them to the government. It is unfair to blame investors for the failings of the framework they operate in. They do not make the laws.

#11 Chitapankwa is spot on. # 10 Kanjimaano , those sound like london wages ? are sure. What investor will come and pay such wages to 3rd world country were doing business is challeging due to no infrsatructure ?. If you wnat those kind of wages or investors who will do everything for you (including building toilets), go on and chase those that are there already and find others. Good luck.

When he says investors ,I think he should include everyone who has a business in Mazabuka to atleast put a small amount of their profits to mantaining the well being of the son to be city.

kc #13 Conditions of service must be balanced. You seem to have too much respect for Muzungu those Londoners. Why not the Zambia? What make the difference? When we talk about development it starts with financial/econom. Once the Zambians remain poorly paid, no development atall. standard of living will remain lagging behind developed countries. if wife brings in K10,531,835 and hubby K13,531,780 there will be no need to kill a member of the family for eating too much relish. It’s time to think of workers’ salaries MUST be better same like Muzungu.
Kanjimaano, Not even china nor india are demanding same salaries as those paid in the west, which i think is sensible. Ask why they are not doing it, and you want zambia to do it.
#16 Are you putting Zambians at the level of factory workers as their future???Take into consideration our popln is extremely low compared to India and China. Thus the educated people in Zambia should have quality jobs. Zambia is a rich country and a good ground for foreign investment However, the people should not lose site of quality work. If this useless MMD govt tried to copy UNIP in the way they boosted education and jobs…. Zambians would be getting high wages in the different provinces or villages.
