Be civil, Katele tells HH

Share

MMD nationa secretary Katele Kalumba has implored United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema to venture into politics of civilisation and use moderate language.

Dr Kalumba said in a statement yesterday it was unbecoming for Mr Hichilema to lose every gain of political decency that many cultured Zambians assumed he had acquired as a professional and drop down to piggish runts of political debate.

“MMD wishes to counsel Mr Hakainde Hichilema to at least make an effort towards civilised political conduct and language,” Dr Kalumba said.

Meanwhile,Namwala Member of Parliament, Robbie Chizyuka has questioned what political mileage United Party for National Development UPND leader, Hikainde Hichilema will gain from the continuously wasting his time attacking republican president Rupiah Banda with disrespect.

Speaking in an interview with QFM, Major Chizyuka says it is immature for Mr Hichilema to allegedly persistently defame the name of the republican president, when he is old enough to be his father.

Major Chizyuka explains that it is totally unafrican and uncultured for the opposition leader to focus on politics of name calling when he could be investing his time in presenting a strong manifesto to the people of Zambia.

He condemns the action taken by Mr. Hikainde to continue pursuing the republican president in the manner he is currently doing.

He adds that countering president Banda’s statements with insults and negative criticism will at no point bring change to the many areas Mr Hikainde would want to see change in.

Mr Chizyuka has since urged the UPND to take keen interest in explaining to the people of Zambia what developmental change he will bring to the nation once voted into power and leave the republican president to do his job.

  1. But how else is HH going to overshadow Sata in the Post Newspaper if he does not use insulting language? The Post wants to sell papers and HH wants to be on the headline. Ever since HH started speaking ill of RB, he has managed to become Fred Mmembe’s best puppet and has made the head lines. This is why we need media regulation.

  2. Leave HH alone, when a chief is busy insulting his subjects, they will insult back. RB was elling father Bwalya “pemenso kuipa” as if he is cute himself, when worse than Father Bwalya. what do you expect us or father Bwalya to say? RB said father Bwalya is a father without children. What he said is an insult to all Catholic priests that choose celebacy doctrine. The Man (RB) is Mad. He once wished Chansa Kabwela evil?? Why do we forget so easily ba #1 Luke Mbewe kwena awe.

  3. Chizyuka, so it is African for the elders to insult the young ones? the bible say do unto other as you would like other to do unto you, if you want respect stay out of politics period!!! how do you insult your friend and expect not to be insulted back????

  4. It is true that HH has lost it. He should have ushered in a new era of politics in Zambia – politics that should be different from RB and Sata, politics of issues. Instead he has joined the bandwagon and has since lost direction. We had hope that since he was a young leader he would practice civilised politics.

  5. This “Dr Kalumba said in a statement yesterday it was unbecoming for Mr Hichilema to lose every gain of political decency that many cultured Zambians assumed he had acquired as a professional and drop down to piggish runts of political debate” insult is a clear misrepresentation of the well articulated counsel from MMD National Secretary Hon MP Dr Katele Kaluma who meant well in his ““MMD wishes to counsel Mr Hakainde Hichilema to at least make an effort towards civilised political conduct and language,” Dr Kalumba said“.

I however hope that Dr Kalumba will expend his energy to counsel Mr President RB Banda who appears to think that ridiculing young people is alright as long as he is a very old 74 yrs man while he is alleged to have an about 30 yr old wife…

  6. The big question is, WHY HAS MMD FAILED TO IMPLEMENT THE DECENTRALISATION POLICY??
Those close to MMD know that their fear is that Councils will perfome better, especially the City and Municipal Councils which are under the opposition, and that would be a threat to the survival of MMD. This is the perception of those in MMD, its sad to have such shallow minded leaders that can hold back the development of the nation for their own benefit at the expense of the masses.

Finally, are the MMD controlled Councils doing better than those under the opposition?

Can MMD tell us why Councils they control e.g. Kaoma in Western Province, Milenge in Luapula and Isoka have had misappropriation cases (not misapplication)??

  7. In the UK, last night we had Round 2 of a 3 round TV debates between political leaders aspiring to lea the country. It is wonderful to see people debating issues, not insults.

Can we please have TV debates in Zambia too.

  8. What is wrong telling someone (no matter how old) that they have a small brain, if they keep misrepresenting your position?

  9. Reacting to President Banda’s statement in Milanzi last week that he was deceiving himself that he would be the presidential candidate of the PF-UPND pact when in fact Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata is the one who is going to be the Pact’s candidate, Hichilema said the PF-UPND pact was itching President Banda.

“The issue of Sata being a president is not there. It’s a non-issue. The man President Banda is ignorant; he is ignorant in the way he talks. We have already told the people of Zambia that when the time comes to choose a presidential candidate, we will sit down, we will negotiate, we will choose a candidate. We have not done that,“ Hichilema said in a telephone interview from Kasempa district in North Western Province where he was campaigning for the UPND in…

  10. Hichilema said in a telephone interview from Kasempa district in North Western Province where he was campaigning for the UPND in local government by-elections.

“Anybody who tells you that somebody is a candidate; if he tells you Hakainde is a candidate, he is lying. If he tells you Sata is a candidate, that person has a small brain because we have said this over and over again, again and again. Only a dull person, only a person with a small brain may not understand that this is the position we have given. The only reason that Rupiah talks about it Pact is because he is scared. I am in Kasempa where they are saying it is their stronghold, people want change.”

  11. Hichilema advised President Banda against passing derogatory remarks against younger politicians because they would retaliate. “On the issue of Rupiah Banda insulting us and criticising us, the first comment I want to make is that there is an old man called Rupiah Bwezani Banda who goes out on platforms insulting us and when we respond he claims that we are insulting him. He is hiding behind old age to abuse his political competitors. That is unacceptable,” Hichilema said. Rupiah Banda is preoccupied talking about the Pact. If the Pact is useless, why is he spending time talking about it? It means that the Pact is itching him. He knows that the Pact is taking him out of government in 15 months’ time.”

  12. Hichilema revealed that UPND cadres, who were arrested by the police after a fracas last Friday in Matushi area, were released on bail on Monday after a court appearance. “After that I went to the police to complain that the people that were attacked were the ones that were locked up. One of the attackers was the MMD councillor in Mufumbwe but when we were at court this councillor showed up. Even when there was a docket opened up against him as an aggressor, the police were just looking at him and our cadres had to apprehend the councillor and we took him to the police station,” Hichilema explained.

  13. “Frankly speaking, there is degeneration of law and order coming from the police and MMD cadres, which is very unfortunate. I don’t know what the MMD wants us to do. They want us to protect ourselves by training our own armies. I don’t know. I don’t know what they want this country to be? To break down into a chaotic country, I don’t know?

Hichilema said the MMD was showing signs that UNIP had just before it lost power in 1991.

  14. “Citizens must understand that if the party begins to behave like that, their time is up. That is how UNIP was behaving in the late 1980s, in the early 1990s,” Hichilema said. “Basically, MMD has experienced a bloodless coup because UNIP has staged coup d’état by taking over MMD; William Banda, Rupiah Banda these are the mannerisms that they have brought to MMD.” Hichilema also claimed that the MMD had illegally set up campaign camps at about 25 polling stations out of 40 polling stations in the constituencies.

  15. “They are occupying schools that are designated as polling stations. They have put their campaigners there. The electoral Act does not allow that,” Hichilema protested. “Yesterday Monday, I went to the police to raise that complaint and you will be surprised that the police said that was beyond their control because the Ministry of Education has allowed the MMD to occupy polling stations.”

  16. Hichilema called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to remove the MMD because if they do not do that, the PF-UPND members would remove the MMD campaigners by force, which might lead to confrontations.

“Everybody is only allowed to camp 100 metres away from the polling station but in this case the MMD are occupying the polling stations themselves, cooking from there,” Hichilema said. “What law and order are the police protecting?”

UPND and MMD cadres fought in Mufumbwe last week and several people, including police officers, were injured and property damaged.

  17. If you want to see improper advice look at this statement: …….Dr Kalumba said in a statement yesterday it was unbecoming for Mr Hichilema to lose every gain of political decency that many cultured Zambians assumed he had acquired as a professional and drop down to piggish runts of political debate….. P.i.g.g.i.s.h runts and you want your colleague to be civil…. my foot!!!

  18. :d8-|:o:o:o:o[-([-( surely if you want a kid to give you all the respect you want.First and fore most never lie to him that you will get him ice cream, but end up buying him cassava. This is the same way HH is feeling , weve been taken for a long ride of mouth watering promises from these MMd chaps for a long time.First there were people who thought they were our MOSES” and some still believe the still stand a chance of redeeming us once given another chance in 2011.
#11 -20 RED card jinx has given us the whole story with no qaums what so ever.PIGGISH is latterally the biggest insult i wish to check in the dictionary from the CEO of these cadres who are ruling us.

  19. RB allegedly called Sata, ‘mambala’… now that is not an insult but traditional cousin banter.
HH allegedly alluded to RB as having ‘a small brain.’ That is an insult because he allegedly said the same about his MP Hon. Maj Chizyuka.
It may be irritation on HH’s part, but the language is definitely uncouth. There is a sense in which if this young man is allowed to become President, I can foresee ‘s t u p i d i d i o t s’ returning to the press conferences. He is very full of himself. It is such a pity that people who would really progress politics in Zambia have been sidelined and we are offered these monsters in the opposition!

  20. I made a resolution that come 2011 i was to vote for HH but i dont know whats happening with this good leader.gone are the days were we should be debating HHs behaviour i realy dont understand this.

  21. It is sad to note that some comments here seem to have just turned a blind eye to real facts! Whic developed nation has anyone seen develop on personal name calling kind of pilitics? It only happens in developing countries! Which developed country has anyone seen its economy improving based on insults and myopic politics? Zero! Judge for yourself, kaponya politics will lead Zambia nowhere except selfish leaders to State House to milk the country of its hard earned wealth at the detriment of the masses. The cycle will sadly go on and no change but folly and disaster!

  22. MMD is great and smart guy. There is no one in MMD who can equal HH`s resume. I repeat nobody, not even Katele Kalumba himself who has spent the whole of his life being looked after by tax payers.
Most chaps in MMD have failed to make it in private life and are being looked after by tax payers.

  25. RB invites bees on himself. You see, rb is the only serving president in Zambia who’s has never been respected by most Zambians. The only ones who maybe respect him are those who receive from him tuma brown envelops such as Chitimukulu chief of the Bembas. Because, he enjoys ka localised economic development in his pocket by the brown envelops. Thats why he’s one of the few chiefs people don’t respect, today. Instead of rb bootlicking him, he bootlick rb.

  26. Why is that whenever someone mentions that Senior Citizen paid Robbie Chizyuka $2000 the post gets deleted.
Why cant L.T show how MMD pay people to say things.
This was clear evidence that a MMD cadre paid a UPND M.P money to speak bad about his party,

Shameful tactics by MMD and L.T

  27. Ba #32, naimwe use your brain cells. dont take blogg talk seriously. pantu mwalalubana. do you know chizukas history, go research you will find that the man is stubborn. if you want to talk about paying, who paid him then to fight government over that irrigation project which was about to displace villagers? bakalamba think before you believe blog propaganda.inga mpombo who is paying him? opposition?
