Pact can’t work-Milupi

Share

Alliance for Democracy and Development Charles Milupi

OPPOSITION Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) president Charles Milupi says the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND) Pact cannot work because it is centered on two people seeking the presidency.

And PF vice president Guy Scott yesterday said he did not have any apology for the UPND over his remarks that UPND did not contribute to the PF campaign in the recent Mpulungu parliamentary by-election.

Mr Milupi said in an interview yesterday that he did not want to be associated with the PF/UPND Pact because it had no future for the country as it was centered on two people who want to get to State House.

Mr Milupi said he could only partner in a coalition that would discuss policies and programmes to improve people’s lives rather creating an alliance to escort people to State House.

The most important thing for opposition political parties was to develop policies that could improve people’s lives.

“In most cases, pacts are always retrogressive because they do not concentrate on developing policies to improve people’s lives, but they are always fighting over who should be the president.

“This is why I would rather go for a grand coalition, which discusses policies and not a pact where people fight for leadership,” Mr Milupi said.

Meanwhile, Dr Scott yesterday said he did not have any apology for the UPND over his remarks that UPND did not contribute to the PF campaign in the recent Mpulungu parliamentary by-election.

Dr Scott also said it would be wrong to make assumptions that the victory in Chilanga showed that the political tide had changed in favour of UPND.

He said to the contrary, the victory by UPND largely borrowed from the popularity of PF in Chilanga, which was half cosmopolitan and half rural with the Tonga influence.

He said the UPND should avoid being emotional and arguing with facts taken from the previous presidential and other elections.

Dr Scott wrote in Wednesday’s edition of The Post that UPND did not add value to the victory by PF in Mpulungu because it was not popular in the area, which attracted angry reactions from UPND national youth spokesperson Ronald Manenga.

Dr Scott said some individuals in the UPND were emotional and reacted without facts, which were in black and white.

Dr Scott said no malice was intended in his observations and would not argue if he were told that PF was not popular in an area like Kalomo where UPND was dominant.

It was wrong to draw conclusions that he was less committed to the ideals of the Pact having taken a central position in convincing other PF leaders to withdraw a candidate before the Chilanga by-election took place.

He said he would always support the Pact but would never shy away from facts about the popularity of the two partners.

  1. How can the pact work when the parties involved in it are busy attacking each other? It is like two people who wants two get married and everyday are attacking each other. The other one today says look at your big urgly nose and the one responds and says look at how urgly your figure is as if you are not a woman. These kinds of comments are a sign that the two are not compatible. So it is with PF and UPND.

  2. # 1 if two pipo constantly urgue but are together, their urguments bind them together. One day that nose you have talked about will look good. Ha Ha Ha.

Anyway seriously the PACT is our hope. lety them sort out this issue and we move as one.

  3. keep your wapped facts to your ****in ass guy.you have this ****in notion that upnd can only win in southern province.why are you blind to the fact that upnd has won by-elections in mufumbwe, solwezi and chilanga which are non-tonga areas?.are you going to tell me that areas like mufumbwe are also cosmopolitan and so the pf had influence on the outcome?. revisit your facts!

  4. Mr Mabelo (Milupi) pacts are built by consesus and by not sitting on the fence. You will not contribute to the development of this country I can assure you with this kind of attitude otherwise If you are not careful you will just up as a president that just sat in parliament. You have brilliant ideas but try to approach your fellow opposition leaders to seeks ways on how you can work together to serve us better. At the end of the day, even you Mr Mabelo you want to go to State House.

  5. well said milupi well said. these two men shikulu and and under five think they can use one another to take up residence at plot 1 independence avenue. they will be shocked when we announce a snap election for 2011. I guess its HH who insists the pact is on bcos all pronouncements coming from PF indicate the pact is rotten meat. pf vuvuzela long abandoned HH and upnd. anyone can go to the post its editorial policy never to cover upnd

  6. Well said Bo Milupi we need pact that will give Zambia the best economical policy not who will be in state house as you put it. My advise please talk to HH nicely and convince him to work with you so that we can combine our manifestos which are similar. Other wise pact is long dead HH is just playing in the gallery.

  7. Just say you dont want to be used as an escort anymore like what happened in 2008 where you were an usher boy for alaa bee.
You cant seperate personalities from political parties. The MMD does not care about parliamentary seats but they would kill for Vasco Da Banda

  8. Scot is so blind, in 2006 the parliamentaly seat race was between Upnd’s Cap Moono and MMD’s Magande, pf was nowhere close to the race.

  9. Only foolish pipo are still believing that there is hope in Pact. It’s dead just cry & stop plan for the future without it. I know it’s hard to tell your supporters but just tell em the bad news. Your selfish has killed it. It’s now time to continue suffering but we are used maybe it’s better with MMD than to be ruled by satana as they say the devil you know is better than an angel you don’t. Inform us the burial day for this pact.

  10. Milupi, as long as you don’t learn to network you will always be an escort for the likes of RB to State House. HH is talking about harmonising manifestos and working out strategies on how to address the challenges facing Zambia before considering the presidency issue, now how different is that from what you are saying? Wake up and join HH or are you a sleeper mole planted by MMD to discourage opposition parties working together?
Scott, you lost the Mpulungu seat to MMD so there is no need for you to vent your anger on UPND. Are you saying all this nonsense just to force UPND to accept being second fiddle to your messed up party? Forget, that will not happen!! Facts are that UPND is gaining in popularity and you can no longer used 5yrs old data to win the argument about popularity.

  11. Why some contributors find insults as a way of expressing their frustrations. Contribute your points and not insulst because mature people reconcile with their enemies or wrongs. We need a piece of mature contributions rather insults on this blog. I can’t show my son what i’m reading coz insults are bad.My son the other time was asking me why do you like avoiding me to ready?

  12. I totally agree with #18.This is one thing that has killed Zambia. We’ve alot of uncivilized people who can’t debate with their senses.

  13. Its about time the Culture of Insults was addressed. I was beginning to believe that all Zambians are like that. Insults are a precursor to conflict.
