United National Independent Party (UNIP), Livingstone District Vice Chairman, Martin Pelton has said the confusions in the UPND and PF Pact are a clear testimony that the opposition has failed to challenge Rupiah Banda.

Mr.Pelton 65, a veteran freedom fighter, said only UNIP managed to form a viable Pact with the African National Congress (ANC) Party in 1964.

He said the idea of opposition parties merging has lost meaning and most of the Pacts in modern politics are based on selfish motives.

“The only Pact that has worked was that of UNIP and ANC in 1964 and it was launched in London…It was formed for a purpose and the purpose was to get independence which we did unlike these Pacts we see where anyone is just trying to climb on top of the other,” he said.

Mr.Pelton said this in an interview with ZANIS yesterday.

Meanwhile Mr.Pelton is seeking refugee away from his home after escaping lynching from his son. Mr.Pelton told ZANIS in an interview that his son threatened to beat him up and kill him after he complained about a missing door flame frame in the house.[pullquote]The only Pact that has worked was that of UNIP and ANC in 1964 and it was launched in London…It was formed for a purpose and the purpose was to get independence which we did unlike these Pacts we see where anyone is just trying to climb on top of the other[/pullquote]

He said he has vowed not to go back home until the Police apprehend his ruthless son.The 65 year old veteran politician furthermore condemned the Police’s
attitude to work after a Police Officer at Dambwa Police reluctantly attended to his complaint.

He said the Police Officer named Lubinda could not respond favorably to the senior citizen’s complaint despite his life being endangered.

He further condemned the Police Officer for telling him to provide transport when the Government bought vehicles for the Police.

The visibly annoyed old man challenged the Police to be vigilant and protect lives of innocent people instead of leaving the criminals to rejoice at the expense peace.

Meanwhile Southern Province Police Commanding Officer,Lemmy Kajoba could not be contacted for a comment on whether the Police has failed to curb crime in the town as it was sports day for the security service.

But a Police Officer at Central Police who answered a 991 toll free line confirmed that Mr.Pelton’s son had not been arrested by press time.

  1. this old man has gone nuts. is he telling people that UPND and PF should have gone to siberia to consumate their pact. i dont get the reasoning. yes UNIP and ANC formed their PACT in London but what were the reasons of having gone that side. Old Man just concetrate on enjoying your last days and leave politics to those who are still energetic.

  2. Door flame! Hahah imwe guy dont laugh at LT limbi ka old man has umulilo pa door hence the door FLAME. Maybe someone alishimya umulilo pa chibi hence the ‘missing door flame’ lol

  3. In Zambia the word VETERAN (politician) is missed. I’m hearing about this veteran politician for the first time yet I have lived all my life in Livingstone. the fact that he was there at the time of UHURU doesn’t make him a freedom fighter.

On the pact, most our politicians want to lie that it can never work coz they are feeding off the ruling MMD

  4. It is door frame mwe bantu. Our people call it door felemu, door flemu or flame. We are not all English.

However, there is this rote in the way police work. They like begging on road, begging in the pub, begging everywhere.

They even beg from the dead!

Tax Payers give their hard earned cash to the state. The state provides vehicles to the police to do their work. In turn, the police do not make service vehicles available when they are needed. They are always demanding that the victim or the suspect provides transport to and fro wherever.

If these people used our resources properly, they would be less criminalised. Shame on Zambia Police, and one hopes the police authorities can respond with a corrective action to reform the operations of the service. We don’t need empty words.

  5. Lets not mis the point on this one-there’s alot of sense in the Veteran’s view. This PACT has no public interest at all.The SATAN & his UNDER FIVE are a typical example of ruthless selfish zambians ( like most of blogers on this site) who only appreciate wat benefit them.

Its important to be realistic and objective in dealing with public matters who hopelss supporters of the this useless PACT.

Zambian politics is not value adding nor capable of upholding public interest. Its just as noisy as empt drum….!

  7. Even if i supporter this so called Pact provided serious leaders like HH are president, i would not comment on this gentleman’s article. Who is this fella? I think he is not a serious person? how can he stole his sons door frame and then complain about the police later on the Pact? LT please give us real news of development? HH was in Kamanga empowering pipo with water by digging boreholes. This is very touching the level of emphathy in this young leader HH is unprecedented.

  8. Seek refugee? like father like son.You seem to be a problem old man and your stubborn gene is in the blood of your son as well.Dont seek refuge, go on exile.
