The Christian Coalition has castigated Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) President Edith Nawakwi for suggesting that President Rupiah Banda had done nothing since he became President in 2008.

Coalition spokesperson, John Mwendapole said it was wrong for Ms. Nawakwi to allege underdevelopment when the country had recorded massive developments which were conspicuous.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwendapole said to the contrary, President Banda should be commended for various developments that he had undertaken during the two years he had been in office as Republican President.

He was reacting to a statement by FDD President Statement in today’s edition of the Post newspapers that President Banda had failed to deliver.

He said President Banda’s Government had managed to construct more health posts, hospitals, schools and roads.

Mr. Mwendapole also noted that Mr. Banda had also managed to build investor confidence and that through massive investments in various sectors of the economy with jobs having been created for many Zambians.

“If you say President Banda has failed to deliver and you judge him by the garbage in Mandevu, that is shallow thinking, let us see what he has managed to achieve in other parts of the country. There is massive construction in the health sector, education and roads are been constructed are these not developments? ” he asked.

Mr. Mwendapole has instead accused Ms. Nawakwi of failing to deliver and taking her party to higher heights despite the late Christon Tembo having laid a good foundation for the party.

He has since challenged FDD members to call for elections in the party and elect new leaders who would compete with other political parties in the country.

He said FDD like MMD was founded by people from various parties of the country but observed that it had lost popularity and was no longer among the major political parties because of Ms. Nawakwi’s lack of leadership and vision.

“FDD was a strong party under Christon Tembo but look where it is now; it has failed because its leader Ms Nawakwi has no direction. She has managed to reduce the number of seats in parliament and very soon we might not remember it. So I would call on FDD members to call for elections so that they chose people with direction and rejuvenate this party Ms. Nawakwi has failed,” he said

Mr. Mwendapole has also advised Ms. Nawakwi and other opposition politicians to stop attacking President Banda in public but use established channels to advise and give their suggestions on national issues so that all Zambians could benefit.

“We especially expected Ms. Nawakwi as the only female President of a political party to be a unifying factor where she could be bringing the various politicians together as a mother,” he said.

And the Forum for Progressive Politics (FPP) has said it was unbelievable that a person of Ms. Nawakwi’s caliber could not see and appreciate the enormous developments taking place in the country.

FPP Secretary General Charles Kafumbo has since challenged the FDD leader to tell the Zambians what she did for this country during her ten years as a minister in the Chiluba government.

“Let Ms. Nawakwi give an account to the Zambian people of her achievements while in government for ten years,” he said.

  1. Christianity is a religious affiliation and not a political coalition nor NGO.So if you want politics form a political party and have nothing to do with our christian faith.Hypocrits, you are not even ashamed you dark angels,Wait until you fall.We are a prayerful lot.

  2. I see it from Nawakwi’s perpective. Banda has done nothing about appointing her into goverment, does it make sense now?

  3. Her main ‘achievement’ while in government was that carlington theft. Well, its the only one that comes to the fore that one can remeber her for.

  4. There is nothing that this govt has done that needs praise. nawakwi is right and entiltled to her analysis of governace and lack of development in our land.
Others make disparaging statements about Sata & HH and That is okay too. We remain the ultimate judges in this game not all the pro MMD organisations….To hell with your condemnations

  5. Ms Nawakwi, arm twisting tactics, she only wants a job, if given you will not hear a word from her, she will be as quiet as a graveyard in the night. What’s with those tuma badly tied head scarves all the time, I wonder whether she even shampoos her hair.

  6. 8. I think the so called Christian Coalition spokesperson John Mwendapole is either seeing things that we all aren’t seeing, in which case he is mad in the head, or he is just looking for a job, in which case he is a lumpen like Manjata busy looking for a job by way of stoogerying. Check this out: ‘There is massive construction in the health sector (Kapoko has stolen all the donor funds), education (check the pathetic Grade 7 results) and roads are been constructed (the Mongu Kalabo road has been on the cards since Banda was in Kaunda’s government) are these not developments, no, these are masalamusi fimo fimo ”

  9. Somebody help me.What is this ‘DELITED AFTER FIVE COMPLAINTS’ from #5.What is it? on the article,Lusaka Times stop behaving like Times of Zambia.

  10. As a Christian I am supposed to doubt and criticize when all is not right. Even Thomas was allowed to doubt Jesus so as our faith could be fulfilled. Nawakwi should not be patronized into being a mother of politics just because she is a woman. It’s Christians like Mwendapole that got Jesus killed( I know they were Jews but you catch my drift ). Blindly praising without seeing that 20% employed cannot be a country’s only tax base on an individual front my goodness these wolves in sheep’s skin.

  11. The problem with us Zambians is that we look at a few shopping malls and restaurants as development. Real development is health and education sector. A country without development in these two areas is going nowhere.

    :-?

  12. I wonder why leaders in z still think like babies.
Mr Mmwendapole, u shud understand that this z 4 the gud of the country. At this stage we can’t this rate of development to continue. Let’s try out sumthing new.

  13. Zambia is a country that is lagging behind in so many areas becoz of poor leadership summed up in pathetic governannce, corruption and other vices.Just look at the apalling macroeconomic indicators which are manupulated any way and compare them with other countries in the region.Yo guess is as good as mine,we are a country that needs a revolutiion of our political landscape. Its madness to associate the current economic situation with development.rest my case

  14. Edith Nawakwi is the only who talks sense, for a country to be developed, health, education and roads should be in good shape, not putting up malls.

  15. Nabala #2 note. christian affiliation and political coalition. Alabane insala ibi! nabaku mapepo nomba baba ba Cadre. amarubbish. They can’t resist the brown envelop.

  16. i doubt if NAWAKWI even knows what development is. These people who like talking are the same characters who even fail to revamp the living standards of their own families. now wants to pretend as though she is a responsible person by critising the govt.

  17. ok, I dont support these Christian Coalition chaps but it is true, Edith has nothing progressive to offer. her influence on the political stage is extinct! when FDD was formed in 2000/1 we thought it was going to be a force to reckon with. but then they chose the Late Christon Tembo, a non-charismatic ma,n as their leader. As a consequence their impact was overshadowed by the presence of the late Andy Kambela Mazoka, a true giant of the opposition at the time. so, to cut the long story short, FDD under Edith’s leadership is today on the verge of EXTINCTION!

  18. Others see massive development in Zed Under NyamaSoya. Others see rampant corruption, Organised aquittals of known thieves and a perpetual traveller in NyamaSOya.

The world meanwhile goes around daily. Sunrise to sunset and sunrise again.

  19. Poor Edith am sure she means well but her track record, personal life lets her down. Ina way she is like many oppostition leaders who led life like oneday they would never seek public office..now the past haunts them no matter what they say the people remember and any semblence of hope to lead is lost.

  20. Edith is right. What has Rupiah done for the Zambians? Even the so called economic achievements have gone down to sponsor his trips outside the country. We are yet to know how much Rupiah has spent on his foreign trips and we should’t be surprised if its billions of Kwachas. For sure, I agree with Edith. Let the MMD prove to us what kind of investment has helped to uplift the standard of living in Zambia. I bet the only thing which the MMD can boast of is the Ndola Stadium which the Chinese are financing….

  21. Nchili ndedabwa….Nawakwi wasn’t it you lobbying for RB in the last election? you were busy decampaigning the opposition, to the extent that you followed him to all the areas he went to campaign . What has gone wrong ? Tell us….kepena……palifimo efyo tatwishibe!

We do not forget…. Like FTJ used to say..ati fwe ma Zedians tula laba! \:d/\:d/\:d/\:d/
