Zambia Police have declared Faz annual general meeting venue in Kitwe at Moba Hotel a no-go area for any delegates.
In a statement released today, ZP spokesperson Ndandula Siamana said the decision was taken in the interest of keeping the public order following intelligence reports that unnamed people were planning to disrupt the AGM.
“The Zambia Police service would like to inform FAZ and soccer funs that the Police Service as the regulation authority is mandated by the public order act to advise any person or persons wishing to convene a meeting or procession on the venue, time and place,” she said.
“The Police service has therefore advised FAZ to change the venue for security concerns arising from the information.”
The development has left Faz-led Kalusha Bwalya’s executive in a dilemma with Police told to cordon off Moba Hotel.
Bwalya said that the Kitwe AGM was the only legitimate congress and that the one announced by the National Sports Council of Zambia on Thursday was illegal.
“The decision of the executive committee to proceed with the meeting in Kitwe is meant to stave off a possible ban by FIFA if the meeting is moved to Lusaka as proposed by the NSCZ,” Bwalya said at a press briefing held at Football House on Friday before heading to Kitwe.

It means that the police will not allow anyone (FAZ OR Kamanga led) to enter the hotel premises.and hold AGM. Those police officers are not to blame as they are taking orders from big fish. When you ignore advise from senior people they prevent you from carrying out your intended task. Kalu is determined to keep our old motto of separation of power.

This is quite pathetic. Why would the police be involved in this matter? I do not like Kalu as an administrator, but government interference in a simple matter as a venue for meeting is low. Can’t we use these state resources else where?

I have never been a staunch Kalu fan, but i think i have come to like him not because he was a good footballer or administrator but another skill that has just emerged, maybe that is what made him be a good player. The Zambian Government is not fair on the Kalu and his administration. The same police force which is been gathered at Moba hotel since last evening should have been enough to ensure that the proceeding at the AGM was peacefull.
It seems like RB, Kamanga and Simataa Simataa have the full information that Kalu is so strong on the grass root that they are afraid of being embarassed by the out come of the voting.
For RB we know you are afraid of copperbelt, but this is a national issue and FAZ has the mandate to choose the venue within Zambia. This they did on time.
If you can not guarantee the security of a small gathering like a FAZ AGM, then I am afraid Zambia is not safe.
