Gen Miyanda blames Zambians for failed constitution

Share

Brig. Gen Miyanda Second from Left

Heritage party president Godfrey Miyanda has charged that Zambians are to blame for the failure of the constitution bill.

Brigadier General Miyanda says it is a pity that political leaders have taken advantage of people which should not be the case.

General Miyanda says Zambians should not allow to be taken advantage of by politicians.

He says had he been in government,he would have ensured that that the constitutional bill went through the second reading stage.

General Miyanda has also charged that calls for republican vice president George Kunda to resign are ill timed.

He says Zambia will soon be going for elections, and that the resignation of the vice president might simply create other challenges.

General Miyanda adds that Zambians should use the forthcoming elections as an opportunity to correct the noted ills in the governance process.

  1. Ive only voted once in my life, and that only time my vote went to miyanda. I am yet to see a calibre person standing again for elections that’s when I will vote again. Maybe if Prof. Chirwa stands then I can register as a vote. At the moment I dont wanner waste my time on Banda, Sata or HH.

  2. ba Miyanda where have you been “young man” ? where are your offices i want to come and give you tips on how to win elections!

  3. Miyanda will u ever analyse a political issue correctly? its kunda to blame for the constitution mess not us who werent in parley..thats y u always lose elections..its coz of yo flawed analysis skills so better keep quiet ba miyanda..which planet do u belong to kanshi?

  4. How exactly would Miyanda have ensured that the Constitutional Bill went through second reading? I must admit I have never understood Miyanda’s reasoning, logic or political stand!

  5. I respect ba Miyanda too much. But the man has missed it on this one. The onus to let the constitution pass was in the hands of UPND. They shud hav voted for it. If they didn’t vote, which they didn’t, they noticed – according to them and I don’t know what changed – that it contained something wrong (which they can’t explain). If the constitution was passed ONLY by MMD, it would hav been lopsided and “very bad”… meaning the badness of the document wud hav been exemplified by the MMD voting alone. Think…. boss, think…

  6. It is time to say anything, I mean anything in favour of the powers that be and get paid. General, long time. Where have you been?? Awe mwe!! LOL!!

  7. Miyand says had he been in government,he would have ensured that that the constitutional bill went through the second reading stage? In otherwords ”Had Rupiah Made me Vice President I would have shoved this fake document down the Zambian people’s throats”. How convenient!

  8. He was given money during the 2008 election bloody money its honting is concsience sorry Mr miyanda i have no tym to waste on you.

  9. The big man should highlight more on want he meant by “Zambians are to blame for the failure of the constitution bill” because i can not see sense from that statement for a person who is at one time he was a republican vice president.

  10. Which Zambians are you talking about? We Zambians tried had both in our submissions to the Mungomba Commission and suggestions on the format of adopting this consititution. Short of rioting there was nothing else we could have done to stop the MMD from manipulating the proccess. Tell us what else we could have done.

  11. Annie my girlfriend… hahahahaha young lady good u know miyanda is the only credible person,, a man full of intergrity….lets mobilize votes for him….

  12. General, I really feel you are still needed in our politics. Rejoin MMD and we may soon be talking about you as leader of business in the next parliament and then who knows what may happen next. Strategy ba General.

  13. Ba Miyanda, how dare you blame the masses when we submitted amasse to the Mung’omba commissioners who also worked very hard to give the country a constitution to stand the test of time! The MMD government have had NO POLITICAL WILL to enact a good constitution and the throwing out of the George Kunda constitution sham is very welcome as a resounding vote of no confidence in this stubborn government, lead by stubborn Rbish! The mania mood of Zambians right now is to have elections so that we have the satisfaction of booting out these mushufwas! So Ba Miyanda, don’t distress, Rbish and Red Lips will soon join you in your miserable and distorted analysis!

  14. The General is way off the mark!! The making of the constitution was messed up immediately the constituent assembly was shot down at the behest of Kunda to LPM in favour of the NCC and when the composition of the NCC tipped in favour of politicians (MMD at that), again due to Kunda’s manipulation. So when people call for red-lips’ resignation, its not becuase of want of wisdom, no..but because we have long memories, even though we might look docile!

  15. Ba GENERAL, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? POVERTY STRICKEN PEOPLE ARE TO BLAME? ARE THEY EVEN THEIR WHEN THESE THINGS ARE DECIDED? BA GENERAL YOU ONLY SEEM TO TALK WHEN THINGS BECOME EASY- WHEN THE BULK OF WORK HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. WAKE UP BA GENERAL.

  16. Just continue dreaming fi PF with your sickly heartless cobra and leave our general alone. He is the only Zambian politician with a cool head. Mwandi Godfrey, fortune favours those who wait. Just wait. Let those who are consumed by their unbridled appetite for power perish before your eyes. Amen.

  17. Oh how great Zambia would be with Miyanda as president. Dear Lord just give general wise surbodinates with communication skills.

  18. Ba Miyanda just keep quiet (ziiiii….). You have failed politically and now you want to sound like a champion. You couldn’t resign from Chiluba’s govt. when real staesmen like Mwanawasa, Akashambatwa, Mulemba, Dean Mung’omba and many were resigning. You had to be hounded out at the MMD convention in 2001 for you to leave MMD. Please don’t try to speak like you are the owner of all morals. You can’t tell Zambians anything because for 10 years you remained in Chiluba’s govt. Please Brig. Gen. Miyanda leave the Zambian people alone. We would rather listen to intelligent young leaders like HH.

  19. Miyanda is a lone thinker and typical of dictatorial tendencies. how honestly can you blame Zambians for the MMD manipulation of the Mungomba draft constitution? Zambians let us hate parties who are critiques at the expense of articulating their party manifestos. Is this the experience we are being told that the new generation luck experience,GOD serve Zambia from such experienced leaders .We are better of with new progressive leadership.

  20. How I wish George Mpombo can give a description of Godfrey Miyanda’z logic using thoze bombastic wordz. Maybe, just maybe I can understand the Brigadier General’z reazoning.

  21. How could MMD manipulate the NCC when the Chairman of the NCC, Chifumu Banda was FDD, the First Vice Chairperson Mrs Musokotwane MP was UPND, the second Vice-Chairperson, Mrs Faustina Sinyangwe was PF and the third Vice-Chairperson was ZCTU President Leonard Hikaumba. Who did the MMD use to manipulate the NCC process? Some one please, tell us where the manipulation was, when the UPND was sitting in the Conference all the time.

  22. Miyanda please know that the constition making process was a Shame from the start so dont be so ‘smart’ because you dont make sense.

  23. LT new good looks, congratulation for the working hard. I especially like the feature of reply to certain individuals

Anyway, back to the Top #29 you are right on the money. Totally agree. Losers always find excuses no matter how much rope you give them

  24. You may also wish to remember that the NCC was the brainchild of the Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialoque (ZCID) where all the leaders of political parties including Sata came to an agreement. As usual Sata, who knows nothing about principles, only flip-flopped when the Zambia Episcopal Conference refused to participate. However the Law Association of Zambia was represented. Our country will only go forward, to borrow a word from UPND, when we begin to talk from facts.

  25. This man would be the worst president ever for this country. To be frank he does not seem to understand many issues. Those who think he is presidential material are entittled to it but no,the man is far from it. Look at how he messed up education ministry as mininster( 1year training course for teachers), as veep closed ZQ and was excited with it, sent cops to kill KK and others in Kabwe and then supported a very bad and segregative constitution in 1996 in parlaiment as leader of house, may be that is why he is saying he would have made it pass. The man is far from reality and has no clue on economic matters. What do you people see presidential in him.Just look at his analysis to day, completely out of tune.

    • Do not lie to people here he fought against the liquidation of QZ ( Zambia Airways and UBZ) but the little man Chiluba had other plans.

  26. General, you have come out of the wood work again.
I hope you will not have trouble this time round raising the necessary supporters at normination day.

  27. Miyanda to be elected president for which country and on which party?
The chap is bought by MMD to split votes because ECZ have to wait for Miyanda to find 200 people to file his nominations in 2008. If it was a big party ECZ brats wouldn’t have waited.
THIS YEAR NI SATA AND PF COME WHAT MAY

  28. Pupwe no Musungu,
What has sata got to do with Miyanda’s statement? He is a Zambia who is to be blamed for not advocating this floppy constistution?. I am amazed by your mediocrity.

  29. The General is an idle politician! He hibernates for 5yrs whilst Sata and HH tour the country selling themselves. He only awakes from his slumber every election and I won’t be surprised if he stands for the Presidency this year. A delusional man and sheer time waster…!

  30. Gen Miyanda says “Zambians are to blame for the failure of the constitution bill”.

Uh….. well…… OK, but who else are you going to blame for this? Maybe the British? Or how about the South Africans? They’re always good to blame for things!

  31. @40 Big Pipe
Atleast ba Brig.Gen. makes good use of his time(ku farm) in the 5 year hibernation unlike ba HH/Sata who waste alot of time and money going round zed and still lose elections.

  32. General, how do you blame Zambians for a failed constitution? You politicians, have been a let down to nationals. The constitution failure should be blamed on egocentric leadership who wanted to reap where they did not sow.The Zambians spoke through Mung’omba constitution but politicians formed a fake and bogus NCC to doctor the constitution.A lot of salient clauses were removed to suit the government of the day.I fail to understand the thinking of this General. All I know is that this General opposes whatever Sata says and does.He is the same person who supported the Chief Justice refusal not to greet Sata.I have observed that whatever Sata will do the General will oppose. Is he real christian or a pagan hiding under the canopy of christianity? He is not a thinker but a destroyer.Shame on you!

  33. l wouldnt cross the road to listen to this man.l remember him as vp defending chilubas slash fund likening it to a father giving out sweets

  34. Ba Miyanda, I have held you in high esteem but it is a pity that you keep quiet for very long periods.

  35. Miyanda is one of the worst person to be thinking of voting. He is a bully and lacks listening skills. Anyone who worked with Miyanda during the time he was Vice president will tell that he is selfish, self centred, bully and lacks the power to make sound judgement. One of the ex-top soldier described Miyanda as lacking judgement and listening skills. Senior supt Mavuka who was Senior Body Guard said VP is very a bad man who will not listen to advice. Miyanda could beat Angella Miyanda openly at their VP resident along Leopards hill road. If you ask Paramilitary officers who was caring and hearted Sata, late Samuel Miyanda, Ben mwinga, late Paul Tembo, Mwanamwambwa, Nkandu Luao will be on top of the list. XMAS presents for entire platoon..People submitted what they wanted . blame MMD

  36. #6 I cannot agree more. This guy lucks mental capacity to analyse issues. I cant understand what is talking about. Did this guy go to school or he is grade 12 failure like another general called big nose? These two generals must be suffering from Empty Skull paralysis.

  37. I like this picture. Ba Mwila reminds me of someone who lives in Springfield.
Ok, now seriously, I appreciate Gen Miyanda as a good and sensible opinionated man, but he has got it wrong here. Why is it that people expect this draft constitution ot pass? If it was so, why then was it taken to Parliament? Every bill has to be scrutinised by Parliament and only Parliament makes laws, so should Parliament just rubber stamp the damn thing? You could as well get the NCC to be Parliament then! Mr Sata also talks about Constitution Review Commission, no matter what process you adopt to draft a constitution, at the end of the day, Parliament and Parliament alone will make it into law. SO, Parliament said ‘NO’, go back to the drawing board.

  38. Let me educate bloggers here. What should have happened is that the PF members who voted against it, should have tabled an ammendment and then let the house vote on that ammendment first. That is how business of the house goes forward in a democracy. RB is an experienced politician who has been an MP as well and he understands the rules of the house. That is why RB was right to blame PF for failure of the house to pass a Constitution. If PF’s Sata was serious, Zambia would have had a Constitution by now, with compromise and ammendments. Instead, the PF chaps, just threw out the baby AND the bathe water as well. We end up with nothing. Mr Sata cannot be good for democracy and going by what Miyanda is saying, he too may be just as bad.

  39. #26 the truth pains, just vote 4 michael chilufya sata nd u ll c wat experience can do and i mean it. If u vote for sata, u ll b voting 4 hard work, patriotism, mess clean up, economic growth using simple, proven less bureaucratic formular.

  40. To say he would have made it pass doesn’t need much scrutiny but an open way of revealing miyanda’s dictatorial tendencies. The thinking is very shallow nothing of wisdom and intelligence ever comes from this old soldier who was employment at time when division 9 was an acceptable criteria for admission in the army that is more than 40 years ago.

  41. Some politicians are like disposable diapers. Miyanda’s has just become one. How can you blame us for the stupid document that does not represent our wishes? How could you have even wished that document had passed? Nonsense. Total Nonsense.

  42. Miyanda is right, Zambians are to blame for the failed NCC, because we have stoped reasoning, but just base our thinking on what certain people we want to listen to say even if it lucks substance. Miyanda says there was no need to organise close to 500 people for the NCC, much money could have been served by just organising a few neutral representatives not politicians, to discuss new submissions, add or even remove those which are irrelevant in the old constitution as most of the articles in the new one already exist in the old constitution. A constitution is not a political document but a national one, hence if we follow the mob reasoning of others or rather political players, it means we won’t have a constitution which can stand a test of time. Those who never took part stay…

  43. Miyanda what do you want to prove to Zambians? That you have become more useless than GK? You loner politician.

  44. I honestly think Mr Miyanda has gone mad in the head, full cycle! Only last week, he gave a very weird reason for opposing the 50%+1 provision in the constitution. Here he is today opposing calls for the resignation or sacking of Kunda for wasting colossal sums of money on a useless still-born NCC with the reasons being that the elections are just around the corner. No wonder when he was VEEP and Chiluba was out of the country, this f.o.o.l would take Sangomas to shower him in State House but the oil of annointment fails to land on his s.illy empty afro head, instead he got fired unceremoniously. Miyanda is a wicked wizard.

  45. He went on to say, if a person says I will build townships in 90 days, ask such a person to say, how are you going to do it if you fail to build your own house in or pit latrine in those days. We have to learn to think on our own, and not believing in lies just because we like the person saying them. He said he was chased from entering the MMD convertion just because he was against the third term bid, by a known opposition political leader of a named party.

  46. This is telling about Miyanda, indeed, a leopard can never change int’s spots. This chap is the re-incarnation of Sani Abacha: “He says had he been in government,he would havch up with him in Kabwe. e ENSURED that that the constitutional bill went through the second reading stage.” I still recall how he thrashed the Public Order Act down our throats only for it to catch up with him two years later as an opposition candidate in Kabwe. This SOB just never learns, no wonder he get’s ejected from anywhere, the army, NADA, MMD and government.

  47. My memory is slowly decaying. Can someone remind me. Who was the leader of government business in parliament (VP) when Chiluba started playing with the constitution in 1996? It was in this year when Chiluba dropped the 50 +1, included citizenship of parents for someone to be President. Everyone who was with Fred has one or two dirty fingers, remember the Zambia Airways Saga, remember Sata leading an entourrage to an unmarked grave to show that Chiluba was born in Zambia. The closest we got to normacy is when Mazoka’s vote was stolen. Again, his clansmen forgot that not just them had voted for him, they started intimating other tribes – do you remember Marcha Chilemena storming ZNBC telling everybody in Tonga that it is now our time to rule – that is where they lost it and left FTJ rigged

  48. Now I know the reason why some of the contributors here seem so glaringly devoid of the ability to think logically and to identify forked thinking and call it as such. Some people here are dogs! You know, it is the curse of the blog, even dogs can relay their thinking via certain transmissions onto the blog. For one, I know Senior Citizen and “MMD Chief Bootlicker” are my neighbour in Woodland’s 7 year old Alsatian/Golden Retriever mongrels. One is called Ronny while the other is called Dora. Galu za chiwewe!

  49. Are you short sighted, this is the same man who legalized the shooting Kenneth Kaunda and Rodger Choongwe in Kabwe in 1997. Kafupi was in Singapore that time and when he came back he demoted the man to Minister of Education. How do you blame citizens, Mr general.

  50. These are late comers on the constitutional issue. Actually these are same people that use parties to make money instead of actively wrestling power to give the young people as KK did by empowering them. Why do they insist on staying in political parties without members? whose views is the General representing?

  51. The faulty electronic voting system is probably to blame, and so they should have waited until it was fixed to assure a secret ballot. Remember that elections are around the corner and MPs especially from the opposition, and more especially from the PF, have to tread carefully lest they are not adopted by their parties if they are seen to be against the wishes of their leaders. Just imagine the reaction of Mr Sata if he suspected that Mrs Kapata supported the Bill, he is on record expelling 20 MPs on flimsy grounds of supporting an NCC process which he had earlier endorsed, and even expelling the Mayor of Lusaka merely for performing her civic duties, remember the Hu Ji Ntao saga?
That is how much fear Sata has pumped into his personal to holder party PF.

  52. iwe#54 i agree with #26. @54 it seems u cant see beyond your own nose. The world is tilting towards embracing young leadership and yet you seem to think backwardly. Its like a you boarding an old bus (Sata) at the station when the new one (HH) is there. Its natural logic that we are only certain of arrival at desired destinations in a New bus than an old sikolongingo (Sata) – Worn out rings, Resleeved, re boled and gripless tyres (Heart failures, Stressed up, Poor sight, Senile, mental dementia etc – Sata). HH is un tempered engine (intact) VIVA HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  53. When Miyanda says had he been in government, he would have ENSURED that the constitutional bill went through the second reading stage, what he means is that he would have shoved the damn thing down our throats whether we liked it or not. I still recall how he pushed the Public Order Act back to parliament hardly a week after the supreme court annulled the s’t’u’pid law. Also, Chiluba was out of town and Miyanda while acting as president decided to get even with KK and Chongwe in Kabwe. ciMiyanda, mutima kuipa monga kaingo cimambala.

  54. @ Al-Arabi number 50, he is correct it is the people’s fault in a democracy. Remember we vote our representatives into office. General Miyanda’s analysis is on point, unlike a certain cobra that thinks reducing taxes on a small tax base shall increase jobs. taxes arelowered when the working are the majority and wholesale government taxes can be blanketed. Now review your statement.

  55. But the top soldier I like was Gen. Chitomfwa. This is the soldier who went to Katanga where Miyanda was hiding after allegedly attempting to stage a coup plot. Chitomfwa took a fake Times of Zambia newspaper with the headline “Zambian soldiers mutiny, demand Miyanda’s return to lead them”.  Kumvela choncho Miyandering a pwalala, jumps in Chitomfwa’s 504 to return home and 20 metres beyond Kasumbalesa, Chitomfwa stops the car, reads Miyanda his rights including the right to a lawyer, handcuffs the idle general and bundles him in the boot all the way to Mukobeko. Kaunda sent “vinyau va” Red Brick do dance with Miyanda and in an act most shameful to all men in uniform, Miyanda did “pratatataaaaa” in his green buffaloes combat. The stench is still lingering in Mukobeko to this day.

    • Dude don’t print false hoods here he was arrested in Zambia. Kaunda and his stories had you juked lol. That old wives tale has been told countless times my goodness.

  56. Imwe ba caterpillar Miyanda mwebamoneka ama election ingayapalama finshi mulesosa. You go into hiding when the situation is hot and resurrect when things are normal, why.I kalenifye balemilisha ba MMD.

  57. Blogers dont waste time on brok as.S cheap finished politicians who cnt suit our time if you ar looking 4 a position as a veep dont shit yo cheap propaganda on us we stil hve time to put up a constitution tht wil stand th test of time

  58. Sad that Zambians never appreciate Good Leaders, we always want to be fooled by the likes of RB and team. General is a great man, he talks sense and resignation of a VP would truly bring in other challenges.

He has better leadership qualities that most of our Leaders. We need people like General to Move Zambia forward.

  59. After RB MMD will have no immediate successor who can beat the leaders currently in the opposition looking at the crop in the MMD vying for the presidency. Thus I ernestly urge Gen. Miyanda to seriously consider rejoining the MMD. No one will scorn him; he is one of the founder members. This is the only way the General can become president. He is a likeable man because of his traits; He is sobber, more intelligent than Sata, wise, frugal, straight [ I mean by this that he is honesty ],, kind and forgiving, consistent and logical. He is certainly the kind of man we need. And he does not seem to be too old.

  60. I wouldnt vote for him but he does have a point. Only in places where the masses allow themelves to be taken advantage of like in Zambia do such things happen (especially considering how much money was spent!) In a real democracy, heads would have rolled by now. The people are the employers of these so called politicians, and like any company, if you dont perform, you’re out. The people of Zambia need to make their demands known by voting out the nonsense that is current govt.

  61. #50 The General exercises his military prowess on poor Angela even in presence of workers! It must be worse in the bedroom! … SUCH PIPO SHUD NEVER BE ALLOWED EVEN TO SUCCESSFULLY LODGE IN NOMINATION PAPERS!!!!

  62. is this general normal if i were the president i would prefer promoting general kanene unlike this dull general.he is not fit to be the commissioner general or inspector general.ci pool ba

  63. Miyanda is funny!! He always speaks at last and wants to be different, but always consistently wrong. His thinking is warpped. He is politically dilussioned. I failed to find or make sence of most things he says. He behaves like a dull person wanting to look intelligent.

  64. Miyanda is an exemplary politician who has demonstrated that one can be clean despite being in government for ten years. I have never known the man to speak falsehoods. The point is that the constitution was rejected by PF MPs (with Sata’s guidance) because firstly it grants the people in Diaspora the right to have dual nationality. Sata hates to see these people have two nationalities. Secondly that constitution spoke in unambiguous terms on gay rights and again Mr Sata has taken money to champion the causes of the gay rights movements. When MMD wins the coming elections, the constitution must be represented without delay. Whenever the General speaks PF supporters come up with all sorts of stereotypical charges.

  65. @#80 i am with you, we have children sitting on the fence! i don’t want to relinquish my citizenship, who ever voted against simply says we do not want Diaspora’s having it both ways. Most ( white ) Europeans have always had dual citizenship…why can’t we???????? that’s why i can never vote for these so called opposition period!!! there too petty.

  66. Last time I voted for someone to the position of State President in a general election, I asked myself the following questions before voting: – Who has been tested and proven that he or she has the right temperament for head of state? Who has a long-term vision for Zambia that embraces both the rural and urban so as to make them both attractive as what is obtaining in western Countries? Who has the right education and has proven that he can articulate issues. Who is issue based? Who is consistent in what they say and do? Who has the capacity to manage the hooliganism that goes with Party cadres once their Part gets voted in? And most importantly, who is honest and reasonably clean on money matters, particularly on public funds? The answer was General Godfrey Miyanda.

  67. #50 you’ve hit the nail on the head!! Angela is not the first wife he has treated in such a manner.

That aside, during his time in govt, he didn’t leave as much of an impression, rather a lack of it.
He is a guy that always sits on the fence, listens to others, then sort of finds a middle ground, stating this as his opinion – he thus, never leads!!

Talk of strategy!! You would expect a man, especially a General, to espouse qualities of a General! Alas not this one! Yes, only Zambians can be blamed for their constitution – but wait a moment, is it all of them??? Why is he scared of pointing fingers at those mostly responsible?? It is interesting to note, that he doesn’t say “we are to blame”, BUT “Zambians!” I wonder why he doesn’t identify himself as one!!!

    Gen stick…
