Works and Supply Deputy Minister Lameck Mangani has resigned from both government and the MMD with immediate effect.
Mr Mangani who is MMD Chipata central Member of Parliament is also planning to join the opposition Patriotic Front.
Mr Mangani has since written to President Rupiah Banda informing him of his decision to quit.
In his letter dated 8th July, 2011, obtained by QFM Mr Mangani has thanked President Banda for according him the chance to serve in his government.
He has also written to the MMD national secretary withdrawing his membership from the party.
He becomes the second senior MMD official to resign from the ruling party in a space of days after former MMD Chairperson for Women and Chongwe Member of parliament Sylvia Masebo who has since joined the Patriotic Front.
Thank you Mr. Mangani for your service to Zambia and the MMD. We thank you for your contribution but also remember that the voters in Chipata central are not personal-to-holder.
MMD is not short of leaders and I think this is the facelift MMD needed. Unprincipled people interested in profiteering are leaving MMD to regroup in PF.
PF is looking more like the MMD of 1991. PF (MMD rubbish pit) will not win the elections. I think this is the facelift we desperately needed in MMD. MMD is not short of leaders. MMD will find a replacement for Mr. Mangani in a matter of seconds. No one is indispensable.

Kaunda was not sure of the ambition of sata and thus removed him as governor where as a populist he was getting scary noticed by the masses and appointed him minister of state for decentralisation where he was detarched from the grassroots. When MMD was formed, kaunda realised that sata was sitting on the fence and instructed the VP to fire him. Sata jumped the fence and joined the mmd where he became the chief comical and comedian. In no time Sata was in a vintage position to purge all those who threatened his interest leveraging his Bemba tribe and Kinship to Chiluba. This is all due to rupiah’s fault. There are times when as a leader you do not like one member but never show it openly. You need to work with everyone even those you do not love or those who not love you. Banda behaves like a pregnant, very petty. He does not realise that he is weakening himself and the MMD. Mpenzeni’s illness and appearance of Sata at bed side was a prearranged affair. Banda is irritating a lot of people within the MMD because of selectively and openly liking other members.
