Chipata Central Member of Parliament Lameck Mangani’s sympathisers this mornimg struggled to mobilse Chipata
residents to welcome him following his resignation from the ruling
Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).
The Former Works and Supply Deputy Minister who arrived in Chipata
district expecting residents to give him a thunderous welcome was
snubbed and only a handful of people who are reported to have been
paid showed up at the Chipata airport.
ZANIS reports that efforts by his sympathisers to mobilise support
proved futile prompting them to pay taxi drivers and call boys to
masquerade as supporters.
And Chipata residents talked to by ZANIS said Mr Mangani should not
contest the Chipata central constituency seat because he had proved to be selfish by dumping the party that made him what he is today saying
he was a nobody before he joined the MMD.
Andrew Jere of Jere compound described Mr Mangani as a shameless opportunist who had failed to deliver in the MMD.
Eliness Zimba of Kapata township also expressed disappointment with Mr
Mangani saying the wise should judge him by his cunning behaviour.
Ms. Zimba stated that Mr Mangani should not be deceived that he had
support due to developments taking place in the district because these were Government-initiated and that as area MP he did nothing.
She noted that Government had been initiating a number of
developmental projects in order to facilitate the attainment of
Chipata district to a city status.
Another resident Timothy Zulu of Mchini compound said Mr Mangani’s
actions were shameful adding that people in the district had earlier
respected him but did not know that he was actually a snake.
Meanwhile the MMD in Eastern Province has accused Mr Mangani of being
an opportunist for ditching the party when elections were approaching.
MMD Provincial secretary, Ezekiel Mtonga said his resignation had
brought sanity to the party saying his presence triggered divisions
among members at constituency level.
Mr. Mtonga said Mr Mangani single handedly picked constituency
executive committee members to ensure that they paid allegiance to
him.
He stated that the party was now intact as an interim committee
had been constituted following the dissolution of the committee that
was handpicked by the area MP.
Mr. Mtonga also stated that the party had credible members who could
contest the Chipata Central Constituency seat and challenged Mr
Managani to contest on any other political party ticket so that he
could see the strength of the MMD which he said was still popular in
the province.
And speaking when he arrived at Chipata airport, Mr Mangani said his
resignation from the ruling party was not influenced by political
hatred towards President Rupiah Banda saying it was only a personal
decision.
He told reporters that he will officially announce his intentions on
Saturday and speculations are high that the former Works and Supply
Deputy Minister wants to join the opposition PF.

LT, I am disappointed with your reporting. Fortnately for me I am this week in Chipata. I travelled to this “NEW CITY” on Saturday for personal business. What you are telling the public are bluntant lies. I witnessed Mangani coming into town. The town came to a stand still because people from all walks of life showed support for Managani. Chipata central has gone to the opposition. Fellow blogers sede todays Post. I saw Christopher Miti followingb the crowd that wellcomed Mangani all the way from the Airport.

Please note that there this is also a behaviour of “Reverse Donchi Kubeba” i.e. people playing to the PF or UPND gallery but will in actual fact not cast their vote on either of them.

This revolution may not be as strong as that of 1991, but it reamins a revolution to kick out MMD- especially Rupia and Sons LTD

@ 7- I actually do believe what I have said, but perhaps it might not represent the truth as you seem to believe – which is normal; a divergence of views. None of us can claim to have a monopoly of wisdom or knowledge. In Western province for example, UPND just like PF had massive turnouts at their rallies i.e. the same people attend the rallies for HH and Sata. The irony is this; one voter can only cast his vote for one of these candidates. When RB goes to Chipata for a rally, he will pull big crowds. The same people that are honking their cars and clenching their fists (Pabwato symbol) for Mangani will be shouting pankoloko and saying mwana wa kwitu for RB.. Hence my belief that there is both “Donchi Kubeba” and Reverse “Donchi Kubebab”. Only the election will tell us the winner

I love Chipata – one of my favourite towns in Zambia – especially that area overlooking the 7 hills that surround Chipata. Post card town. No wonder the imperialists feel in love with the town and called it “Fort Jameson” – to me it will always be Chipata!

Any govt controlled media organisation will continue to report according to what their masters are telling them even if down their hearts they know the story is fake, biased and unfounded. My colleague who is one of the senior officers at Chipata provincial HQs said Mangani is a factor beyond these political hallucinations driven by MMD Cadres. He spoke richly about what happened when Mangani arrived and the orders from the Police HQs, OP in Lusaka, that they need to make it difficult for Mangani to move and to down play is arrival as being nothing. However, he said the people are angry and there is no need to provoke the situation by blocking Mr Mangani who is seen and believed to be theirs.Chipata is peaceful and we the police continue to enjoy this

FORMER works and supply deputy minister Lameck Mangani yesterday brought Chipata town to a standstill.
And Mangani says there is nothing personal between him and President Rupiah Banda except that Zambians are fatigued with the MMD and want change.
Mangani, who last week resigned from the ruling MMD, arrived around 09:05 hours at Chipata Airport aboard a Proflight plane.
He was received by hundreds of both PF and MMD members led by PF Eastern Province chairperson Lucas Phiri. There were also Ngoma and Chimt

I am a Chipata resident and can tell you that the story carried out by ZANIS and reproduced by ZNBC TV is a total fabrication and pure propanda. I witnessed Mangani’s procession which started from airport through to main town, downshops, kapata upto his residence in Month. The man pulled a huge crowd and had a heroic procession. Like the man or hate him but know that he has alot of support in Chipata. His heroic procession has been making headlines on all local radio stations in Chipata since yesterday. Today he featured on live program on radio breeze and 90% of the callers showd support for him and solidarity over his decision to leave MMD.
MMD be very careful, don’t take the support of people of Eastern Province for granted. It’s you’ve been blinded by tribal inclinations of RB. For your own information, we are above tribal lines, and Mangani is more a local person than Rupiah. Mangani has a village of his ancestors, while RB comes from a settlement, Chipangali, which was initially set up to relocate wizards (mfwiti) by the Ngoni Empire. If RB’s supporters want to play the tribal card with Mangani, know that it’s a non-starter. We have come to understand RB is one who does not know how to reconcile, all he knows is hate talk. Anyway, what do you expect from a playboy for an old man who preys on young ladies?

@1 and @2, the post has a vested business interest in telling lies. it is no longer the same post that traded in truth in the past, the modern post peddles in lies and fabrications. the modern post has failed to reconcile all the worst things that it taught us about bwana sata from 1991 to 2008 with its praises of the same man today. all the bad things that we know about bwana sata today were presented to us in that period. for some good reasons, the post has not attempted to praise bwana sata but tactically instead only criticises his opponents. why? because they don’t trust him and so they prefer to hold him at ransom…. with a threat to unleash the past if he falls out of line.

I am in Chipata and i witnessed the escort it was similar to the attractions wedding convoys attract in LUSAKA. Zambians are naturally curious at such events but from what i saw the situation did not warrant a title CHIPATA COMES TO A STAND STILL. Its this kind of insinuations that will let tempers flare up after the elections because the post is building castles in the air.
Is it the responsibility of the media (ZANIS) to investigate if people at the political gathering have been paid. I just want to know, I am not a media person… I thought there work is just to tell the people of what is happening and another political party can talk about people being paid or not..
