Patriotic Front and MMD cadres this morning clashed around Soweto market area in Lusaka.
The clashes erupted over removal of rival campaign posters by the cadres of the two political parties.
Eye witnesses have told QFM the clashes by PF and MMD cadres sent traders and people at the market scampering in all directions.
Police officers deployed to the scene to quell the violence failed to make any arrests.
And Zambia Police service spokesperson Ndandula Siamana has confirmed the development saying the police are on the ground to ensure the culprits are brought to book.
Ms Siamana has told QFM that police officers have since been deployed at the scene to avoid further violence.
A check by QFM at the scene of the violence found police officers monitoring the situation around the New Soweto market with most shops closed.

I thought it was illegal to display campaign material in a public place like a market.
Police should be in the fore front in assisting the councils to effect this law.

MMD CADRES KILL A PF SUPPORTER IN LUSAKA PROMPTING RIOTS
MMD cadres this morning hacked a PF supporter(clad in green PF regalia) to death in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound. This prompted protests and riots from Kanyama residents.
Meantime the MMD youths clad in the blue MMD regalia proceeded to town centre and continued terrorising anyone deemed PF. The riots however spread into town area and Misisi compound. By mid morning riot police had managed to calm the discontent.
MMD cadres directed by William Banda have been harrasing opposition supporters mainly at bus stops and markets.
Last Sunday MMD cadres around Kamwala’s luburma market attacked youths that were seen treking to a PF rally that was taking place opposite the Freedom statute.
