Ballot papers verification starts, as Magoye parliamentary election is postponed

Share

The verification of the ballot papers for the September 20th elections has started.

The verification exercise is being conducted at the Lusaka International Airport amid tight security in the presence of district electoral officers and political party representatives.

The process started with the verification of ballot papers for the Western Province.

And Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Justice Ireen Mambilima says the commission has given itself a deadline on which all the ballot papers are expected to be transported to their various destinations.

Justice Mambilima says the ECZ has engaged the Zambia Air force to transport the ballot papers to areas that are not easily accessible by road like parts of the western province and Luano Valley in the Central province.

Meanwhile, the ECZ has postponed the parliamentary elections for Magoye constituency following the death of National Movement for Progress candidate Willie Malambo.

Justice Mambilima says the ECZ has been notified of Mr Malambo’s death and the date for voting in the constituency will be announced after a meeting with stakeholders.

  1. This is the more reason all candidates must take medical tests before filing in their papers. It simply means that all parliamentary ballot papers in that constituency must be re-printed. For this re-print, however, please try our own local printers. I beg you please.

    • and how do u know he was ill? and if he was, for how long? unless u have other sources, this articleonly says he has died, and there are numerous possible causes of death, until we are given information of what happened in this case.

  2. Its for this reason that we are re-electing RB so that her can open up the entire country.Viva RB,viva MMD.We are behind the winning team 100%.

  3. what happens if a presidential candidate dies? are presidential elections postponed? by how long? what does the constitution say about this? is the governing mandate extended for the incumbent?

  4. Looking at the photo, Zambia police need to re train its officers regarding firearms handling. The Zambia army officers does it professionally. The gun must be held on or below the chest with the finger close to the trigger. Just look at how armed police officers in the west handle their guns. Zambian policemen are very careles with their guns. Infact I have seen some officers with guns hanging on their backs when escorting the president. Suppose an incident happens, someone can even grab the gun because they are not alert. I know there is peace in Zambia but the fact that these guys are given fire arms means there is an element of risk. Bwana Mkubwa IG Kabonde please think about retraining your offcers in handling of guns and alertness. Look at the those guys in the picture

    • Obviously you’ve never been to national service nor have you done cadet at school. There are various positions for various situations, and there are also relaxed situations. The most important rule when handling a gun is the safety of those around. If the guns in the picture above accidentally went off the bullets go down, and reduce the risk of un-expected or un-desired casualties. The same goes with arms carried on the back pointing up-wards. The position you are looking for is the “ready” position, which is not always.

  5. Who is worse in Zambian Politics between Sata, William Banda and Vernon Mwaanga. I think Sata is the most evil. Remember the Kanyama Massacre. He is a clever crook who lies about his education claiming to have 2 degrees. But most important, he was a spy for the colonial government, snitching on freedom fighters and sending them to Jail and Death. Freedom fighters would often be surprised as to how the Colonists would get wind of their underground meetings so quickly. They did not know that their was a mole in Sata, who has always had a Muzungu wanga syndrome. This man is a danger to Zambia and I am happy that next week will the last we will ever hear about this thug called Satan. Vote HH or RB. If you must vote for Satan, please do it only once.

  6. And how old was Malambo? 78 plus? Any history of heart problems, collapsing when getting in or out of a car, plane, train, bus, etc? Ever evacuated to Morningside in SA? Just asking. It seems some party zealots are fond of thinking only the “old” die! Our lives – all of our lives, young, old, handsome, or ugly, tall or short, fat or slim, man or woman – are in the hands of the Lord our creator. not in PF or UPND, MMD or NRP, ZNBC, ZANIS, Post, Times Mail or ZWD or Lusaka Times zealots.

  7. Sata now wants a clean Zambia. He will ruthlessly clean you up you corrupt fellows that have messed up our country since 1991!! The MMD will be banned and all its key corruption masters jailed, and I will meat the jail keys!!

  8. moondama, how is Sata going to clean Zambia, when his been part of the dirty. Sata is worse than RB because he was Chiluba right hand man, Kaunda’s Governor, White man’s cop. Advice him to rest.

  9. We just love and want Sata despite his evil past, he is the best saint for Zambia. He delayed our UNZA graduation under Chiluba but he is the man of the moment and we will vote for him for the sake of the suffering masses, we love our beautiful Zambia with sata as the incoming president. Viva pabwatooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  10. Remind me, when did Zambia get independence? 1964 to date we have areas with no passable roads? It is development the MMD way. Hope those people can vote for MMD and remain without roads for many years. Go for it and get nothing with MMD. Change

  11. I also wonder how mobile hospitals are working if we still have areas that cant be reached by road 46 years after independence. Yah let this pipo in those areas vote for MMD and continue to live like that no roads.

  12. @ #22 Mwiponta. Exactly what I was thinking. Unfortunately they are the people who vote ruling parties. Look how long it took RB`s relatives to realise UNIP was gone? Infact it is the only area where UNIP still exists. You get people who live in these “not easiy accessible” areas who never even travel to ku BOMA for years.

The only time they see a car is when ifitenge and sugar are being distributed before an election so what do you expect? This is what is killing Africa. MMD will obviously want to keep it that way-assured votes! But after 47 years mwebantu? Lwabo though!

  13. When I came back from ku Diaspora,I used to feel sorry and would give villagers especially school children lifts when going to see my relatives in the village. Now I don`t after one day witnessing their area MP whizzing past them without even looking. And tell you what, they were busy applauding him.

I had a few who had jumped into my car at the time, I kicked them out and sped off!

  14. I have realised that some people blogging here are not serious. They only want to chat , meaninglessly. Some of these people who sound like they are PF are in actual fact MMD. That is why you find that they cannot even explain why they want change. Sata must be taken to some rehabilitation or counselling centre in preparation of the aftermath because I can foresee disaster.Remember what people said about Mwanawasa ! And what followed……Some one was widowed…..A repeat won’t be good……These widows find it very difficult to find another lover….imagine how they miss it…….I mean the man’s cinena.
