If MMD can legitimatly afford to carry out such a lavish campaign (chitenges, t-shirts, motor-vehicles) good for them. But there is an issue of ethics and morality that comes into play. In a country with the level of poverty that we have is it justifiable to spend millions of dollars on campaign materials,providing only brief cosmetic relief to the receipients of the same materials and immediatly after the elections they return to wallowing in poverty? Good leaders who really have the interests of their subjects at heart would think twice about spending so much on election campaigns. If they spent as much on development and improving the welfafe of the people then they would not have to campaigning as their previous actions would automatically win them the vote.

I detect a hint of jealousy on the amount of cash that MMD has been able to generate for its campaign. It is interesting to note that the same people who are now very concerned about the less well off in society will shoot down govt achievements such as the new hospital in Shang’ombo. It was quite shocking how cynical people were putting down a hospital that is not even finished. Additionally, the same people complaining about MMD spending did not see anything wrong with the fat pig GBM bragging about how wealthy he is whilst campaigning in Kasama.Â
GBM was bragging about his own wealth, not wealth stolen from tax-payers, government coffers, and dubious deals involving unconstitutional selling of contracts and state-owned institutions.
@ Kolwe muli bus, I can “smell” some sense of ignorance in you. Do you have any single idea where GBM made his money? If you are not in Lusaka, ask anyone, GBM initially accumulated hi loot from the government where he was a supplier to the prisons, hospitals, schools etc and other government institutions (tax payers money).
