Zambia: President Sata’s 60 days in office

Share

President Sata shakes hands with Commission of inquiry on the sale of Zamtel chairperson Sebastian Zulu at State House

By C.Muzyamba

I can almost relive that day, the day Chief Justice Enerst Sakala declared Patriotic Front leader Michael Chilufya Sata duly elected President of the Republic of Zambia at exactly 00:34 hours. This was after he polled a staggering 1, 150,045 votes representing 43% of total votes cast, against his closest rival Rupiah Banda with 7 constituencies remaining to be counted. Zambians from all walks of life woke up from their slumber and found themselves caught up in a record breaking euphoria.

They celebrated Michael’s victory, Dandy Crazy’s award winning song could be heard everywhere “don’t kubeba wilalilalila eeshi…”, Cars hooting, People clad in their PF Liguria and others almost half naked were spoted celebrating in the streets of Lusaka. It was a big party!! It was indeed a joyous moment for my beloved country.

It was the only day a stranger could jump on a bus from town to Parliament buildings for free as long as he chanted the Don’t Kubeba slogan. It was as though Zambia had just become independent from the pawl of colonialism. Comrades from the Old school described Michael Sata’s victory to be sweeter than the Day Zambia got her independence in 1964.

WHY ZAMBIANS CELEBRATED

a) Zambians celebrated the break in the monotony of the MMD, a party which ruled Zambia for two decades

b) Zambians celebrated because they had put in a power a “Man of Action”, a man who had promised them more jobs, lower taxes and more money their pockets ( so in principle they expected Sata to lower taxes, create jobs and reduce the cost of living)

c) They celebrated because they felt they had defeated a tyrannical regime which was embroiled in corruption ( In principle they expected to see a Zambia that is free from any stench of corruption)

d) They celebrated because they envisaged structural changes within 90 days!! Infrastructural development in the name of roads, buildings,rail-lines, etc

e) They celebrated because they were going to be given a new constitution within 90 days

f) They celebrated because they were going to see the re-introduction of Windfall Tax within 90 days

Now you should note that these are not promises I made up, these are promises Michael Sata gave us the people of Zambia and we voted him into office on this premise.[pullquote]By the way I am at pains trying to find a reason as to why the PF government is spending K3billion on each Commission of Enquiry when we have regular bodies such as the ACC,DEC, Auditor General’s office that are mandated to carry out such investigations[/pullquote]

60 days down the line we can do a simple analysis which you people who are educated call “Monitoring and Evaluation”. This is a mid-term review of Michael Sata’s performance using his promises extrapolated above as benchmarks or objectives.

OBJECTIVE No. 1

Fight against corruption (In principle Zambians expected to see a Zambia that is free from any stench of corruption)
Well Mr President, receive kudos from me for coining the phrase “Allergic to Corruption”, however this phrase alone is not enough to hoodwink critical Zambians into believing that you are truly fighting corruption. Fighting corruption means not tolerating any form of corruption.

  • Single sourcing of Apollo a company belonging to Alexander Chikwanda to renovate State house is not fighting corruption.
  • Appointing people who defended and were involved in corruption scandals is in itself creating breeding ground for corruption. While prosecuting former MMD comrades who were involved in corruption might send a stern warning to would-be perpetrators it should however not be a witch-hunt. Let it not be a means of settling political scores.
  • Appointing people who are directly or indirectly related to you Mr President, you who is allergic to corruption is a race against logic.

OBJECTIVE No.2

Lower Taxes, More Jobs and More Money in your pockets
(so in principle Zambians expected Michael Sata to lower taxes, create jobs and reduce the cost of living)
The recent announced 2012 budget is void of any form of framework intended to create Jobs especially among the youth who put Michael Sata into office.

The announced tax regime falls short of meeeting the expectations of the Zambians of lower taxes, more jobs and more money in “yowa” pockets. The people in formal employment are still heavily taxed leaving them with very little disposable income to invest in a quest to have more money in their pockets.

VAT remains constant and it should be noted that this is tax on consumption meaning that everybody in the country is subjected to this Tax and it has a significant effect on the cost of living.

The Tax base still remains very narrow, contrary to the PF’s promise of expanding the Tax base. We however give you credit for increasing the tax threshold to K2m. thumbs up.

OBJECTIVE No.3

90 days promise (People expected to see structural changes within 90 days including the finalization of a new constitution within 90 days)

We have seen a serious digression on this one. The PF is now even accusing us of misquoting them saying they did not say they will give us development within 90 days but rather that they will only kick start the process. They have U-Turned on their promise on delivering a new constitution and re-introducing the windfall tax in the mining sector within 90 days.

By the way I am at pains trying to find a reason as to why the PF government is spending K3billion on each Commission of Enquiry when we have regular bodies such as the ACC,DEC, Auditor General’s office that are mandated to carry out such investigations.. Seriously, it’s very mind-boggling for me.

The honeymoon is over, the euphoria has despaired into oblivion and all we are left with is the reality of unfulfilled promises by the PF government. The people who voted and celebrated the PF’s government are left wondering and asking questions yet nobody is there to give them answers.. Maybe Sata has done a “Ka don’t kubeba” on them, the same principle he told them to use against the MMD.

I am aware that there are a lot of cadres who refuse to see the mistakes in Sata and the PF at large and you will know them by their comments over this article. We should not fear to offer checks and balances to our government. Let us look at the bigger picture which is Zambia and as such all manner of maneuvers aimed at disadvantaging the Zambians should be condemned in the strongest terms possible!!

It is clear that Michael Sata has defaulted on his promissory note to the Zambians and we will not allow him to make the gullibility of the majority of Zambians a lynchpin for his political and personal aggrandizement!! We shall continue to talk!!

  1. Typical they did not want us to know what ?
THIS IS A TRIAL AND ERROR GOVT they did not want us to be told they are a bunch of incompetent jockers

  2. The next election will be after 5years whether you want it not and not after 90 days. All of us want to be part of the commitee of experts becoz of allowances,,Who doesnt know.Interests rate are coming down, you dont want to talk about it…Pipo with big brainds will surely benefit ,those who will position themselves…ZNBC is now free..Imformation bill on its way..media bodies for the first time are happy…..Honestry i will concentrate my effort on the positive side where i know am benefiting especially interest rates coming down..continue complaining…..

    • Blind follower. That article has been well written. Its premise was on the PFs promises and not on anything else. Kanshi mwebantu why do you just support for the sake of supporting or defending. Lets learn to be critical even to our own fathers. 9o days was one of the PF slogans and not 5 yrs. Why shdnt we talk about it if goal posts are changing?

  3. When you highlight words in blue in your article, the implication is that when one clicks on the word a fuller explanation will be given, thus for old school highlighted above one expects that clicking on it will lead you to an article explaining who the old school comrades are. This device is being wrongly used by your web site to lead people to a definition of old school. This is seriously sloppy.

You speak of people clad in their  PF Liguria. The appropriate word is Regalia. Liguria is a town in Italy.

  4. This is to the people of Zambia, especially those who voted for MCS.
I really fail to understand why, but I guess is due to frustration. I am not in support of RB either but someone else even Prof. Clive Chirwa or HH would have been a better candidate. Both brains and application for tangible and reasonable results but instead you chose 90 days – more money in your pocket, a new Constitution etc which were obvious non-achievable promises given the time span.
Lets not forget that this a controversial, inconsistent individual but we still vote for him.
Lets add in the fact that he embraces Mugabe’s ideologies, people like Bakili Muluzu ( faced with multiple corruption charges).
Lets add look back at his history in the MMD

    • ‘in the abundance of water, fools will always be thirsty’- this just describes you. The great will always be above your head comrade. wake up and work if the govt of the day makes favorable the market for you.You will die a trying and frustrated human being.

    • # 8 LOOKIN AT YO NAME I EXPECTED TO READ SENSIBLE THINS BUT JUST USELESS. TELL ME RB WAS IN GOVT FOR 3 YRS AND IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS WHAT DID HE DO? AND THE REST OF YRS. JUST TO BE REALISTIC, H.E. MR M.C. SATA HAS DONE WELL SO FAR. ONLY AN MMD CADRE CAN NT SEE THIS ALL U WANT IS TO CRITICISE HIM. PLEASE GIVE HIM CHANCE TO WORK. SO FAR SO GOOD.

    • Well well, we appreciate crtitics of all kind, at all levels coz they make us ‘PF’ know that we are actually doing something…so you would rather have a bunch of greedy thieves? in the same time frame RB attended 9 In’t meetings good, but what did he learn let alone implement? you see when you coment on a public fora like this one you should have your facts right, logic should be your priority too,not using emotions coz you are no longer benefiting from those scrupulous chaps anymore…whether you like or not its our time…you can not change that so hang your boots …

  5. The PF government has spent 60 days in office or 3% of their term of Office…So for me it is early days to pass judgement either way…I hate being on the fence so I will say ”’so far so good”’ …Or let me say what ever mess PF have done in 60 days, they have plenty of time to correct…they equally have time to build on the good things…

  6. Why people? This was the man the talked about strict labor policies on the chinese that have abused our people. The other he was having lunch with them and forgot about his remarks. Why do we get fooled by cheap promises. I could go on but been a criticizer won’t solve the problem rather doing something about it. It really pains me to see my people been cheated to the point I want to run and correct things. Even now, I could suggest some solutions to mr.president:
    1. Focus on implementing strong control mechanisms to ensure public money is safeguarded rather than always going after those that steal.Logic – the wouldn’t steal if they couldn’t easily get the opportunity or there was a very secured methodology. Recovering money cost money(lawyers etc)

  7. Please give Sata and his government chance and time to excute the pf policies. Just because he used a campaighn promise of 90 days then you want to say he has failed please let us be realistic

    • SKC. how do you become realistic if MCS was not realistic. he took our peoples ignorance for granted. and more importantly, even educated people like yourself shamefully believed his promises. Be more critical and have a big picture next time thats the reason we go to school.

  8. How do we expect the PF govt to clear the mess which the MMD govt, after ruling for 20 years, left in only 90 days? let’s be realistic people..Zambia is a very big nation..there are so many cockroaches in the woods that need to be fumigated..let’s see what the PF can do next year then we can make conclusions!

  9. Obviously the one behind this story is a Tonga but one wonders why they are always interested in Sata failing after all they never even voted for him, they voted for Hakaivotela Humwine, Please let us be realistic

    • The issue is not about being Tonga, analysis matter my dear. We all have short comings and if you are going to base your arguments of tribe you can create division in a country seen as a heaven of peace in the world in general and Africa in particular. My brother we were all created in the image of God and if you see yourself to be superior than Tongas its fine, but one day you might need them. The reason why Africa won’t develop is simple. Sata received little votes from Southern Province and instead of convincing the people to vote for him you are busy saying they never voted for him. Obama received a bad sentiment from Clinton during the campaign trail but he went ahead to appoint her as SC. Lets be realistic my brother, Zambia is for all Zambians.

  10. is it true that within 60 days president sata,s son JOE already has more money in his pockets? He used to drive a toyota spaco70 days ago but now he is driving the new shape TOYOTA L/C VX and his wife is driving the new shape JEEP.:(

  11. 2. Decentralization is important. As it stands the central system has not work as evident by the Mongu stiuaton (western province). And this why you see the president become Donald Trump or Sata Trump. His job is not fire and hire as he has people to do that for him but rather provide lasting and concrete solutions.
3.Every mining company should not be allowed to operate in Zambia should offer certain amount or percentage of management positions given to Zambians. The mines should only be relieved of taxation based on their development in the area. so the larger their investment in the city they operate the less tax they pay (should be a win-win situation) we own the land we deserve to be the superior beneficiaries
    4. Don’t allow uranium production as it harmful especially that it is ru

  12. No doubt about it ifintu tafilibwino(Things are not ok).Well lies were made and we were duped and voted PF into power.SATA is a flipflop politician,Chanda Chimba can attest to this by providing us with data from ZNBC archives and the POST.But we will not sit by and cry over spilled milk.Talking has never been the most proactive way to solve a problem.I suggest concerned citizens should start sensitizing electorates, especially on the ensuing bye-elections,that our first impression has been betrayed and give them a no confidence vote.Period.

    • MMD CADRE # 19 I GUESS. PIPO THIS SITE LT IS FOR ALL PARTIES SO DO NT BE SUPPRISED TO SEE COMMENTS COMIN FROM CERTAIN PIPO LIKE # 19 18. MMD WILL NEVER RULE THATS ONE THIN U NT FORGET

  13. Very excellent, analytical exgesis..! Can see tat zambia is headed for true democray with vibrant technocrats.pls continue hammering the shit out of Michael Satan & PF inept government.

  14. haha ..this article is very useless and dull. Have you ever seen economic development in 90 days? Hahaa..sure man which school did you attend? Even sata in his speech said PF would initiate development in 90 days, what does initiation mean? judge PF on this, hasn’t you seen this initiation of development in 60 days? Please just watch and see what PF will do after 2 years, then you can judge them. Dull article indeed.

  15. It true that Chief Justice Enerst Sakala declared Patriotic Front leader Michael Chilufya Sata duly elected President of the Republic of Zambia no the 23 of sptember 2011. But it could be unwise for any sound-minded person to start counting the 90 days from this day because there are issues like, The Budget which the PF inherinted on that day and yet this budget was made by the MMD. The best time of judging the PF 90 day campaign tool is start when there budget starts functioning and not now. unless you are ‘otherwise’.

  16. I wake up every day with a smile on my face, you know why? coz PF is in power, I was once a hater just like you,I was on the otherside, but not anymore…my advice to you fellas..SUCK IT IN…if you cant join us…stop complaining and make something out of your life….If you cant take the heat get the F out the ketchen we are trying to put in some work..P..U…L..I…Z

  17. Quite a clumsy start but one thing is clear, Sata, unlike RB is trying his best. RB had this ‘freefall’ way of doing things, at least Sata is making overtures toward development. Some questionable appointments and policies but then again, can’t complain much!

  18. you write an article and label everyone who will condemn the article as unrepentant PF cadre. You have to be very dull to have voted for the PF on the 90 day promises. There is nohing that can be done in 90 days. Sata is not God to do things in 7 days. We understood the campaign and we voted. We still understand.

  19. Sure guys you will cry and cry but there are 5 solid years to judge Sata and PF. Us who voted for PF are happy for we can see some change in the way things are running.

We have now free media, more money in the pockets of miners, constitution making is due, more fertilizer to the farmers, more money in the pockets of chiefs, etc. Only you who did not vote for sata and PF are complaining coz HH lost terribly…we told you that he will always be No 3. Even in 2016 he will be No 3…untill he reaches 64 years of age. Just give praise where it is due guys.

  20. So what Muzyamba? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Since u think regional give us a solution. U need to go BACK to school and the basics of life. u need tribalist HEALER.

  21. This fool rights like its already five years when Sata is barely three months in office some people are too dull God help us. Honestly speaking how can you compare 20 years to 2 months ?

  22. I will say this again what is wrong with Bantustan. This article sound like it is from the UPND website the watchdog which flat out attacking PF and bembas. I do have more money the pocket and I should be having even more after 5 yrs. What of the 20yrs we will give the PF? U HATERS

  23. The sad truth about the MMD is that the party is bound to crumble. Once a leader is chosen, factions will develop in the party that a breakaway is inevitable.
President Sata however, must not go unopposed. I really hope we can get a president born after 1964 for once, we need to have a connection with politics, not where every president acts like he’s fathering us, we need a companion who sees eye to eye with us!

  24. As PF lets ignore this chap,he doesnt know what it takes to win an election and do the things PF has and is yet to do…even if we all decided to feed this chap and worse more wipe his ass he wouldnt appreciate it…I for one know your type…let me break it down..lets call a spade a spade…you are certainly the opposite of wise…let spell it for you…FOOL

  25. If we keep on elect8ing brainless people in this manner, we will have ourselvs to blame as Zambians. Why is it that educated people with good leadership skills always loose?

We have moved from a president with a higher degree with a good track record of leadership to a man with no foraml qualifications who is a ‘man of action’ on the mouth only. Sad.

  26. This fool writes like its already five years when Sata is barely three months in office some people are too dull God help us. Honestly speaking how can you compare 20 years to 2 months ? Come on get a life and stop spending time in your bedroom writing rubish

  27. Stupid Buntustan Muzyamba. Continue talking for another 4 years and 10 months then.

Why is it that people who didn`t even vote for H.E MCS are the ones hurting even more? The people of Zambia who voted for the president are happy to give him why are these cows crying?

  28. I have lived in both the developed world, as well as third world countries and I have never come across a country which has seen meaniful development in 60 days, let alone in one year. Is it a coincidence that in the last few days, all the negative articles on the government have been written by Tongas: Mbozi, Mweetwa, Muzyamba, or is it just me who has observed this. Get a life and give the government a chance!

  29. @PF, please, get the economics right, a tax free limit increase by K1m means an additional K1m in your pocket, you needn’t be a rocket scientist to know that one. I earn twice as much as you do I should complain more!

    • Please dont show your ignorance. it is only the tax component that you have gained from the K1,000,000.it is not like you have been given this K1000,000 no. it used to be taxed at 25% meaning your PAYE WAS k250,000 FROM THIS AMOUNT NOW IT WONT BE TAXED AND THAT`S WHAT YOU GAIN NOT K1000,000

  30. ‘In the abundance of water, fools will always be thirsty’- this just describes all negative comments in this blog, the article author inclusive. The greats will always be above an individual’s head comrades. wake up and work if the govt of the day makes it favorable for  market forces to work alongside you. Die a trying and frustrated human being or  innovate when market forces is fine.

  31. The author and most respondents to this article are UPND no question about it.But you know these guys are serious losers and they will sweat their blood to Govern this country , Cut my index finger.

    THESE ARE SERIOUS BANTUSTANS

  32. ALABANE WE ARE IN THE RIGHT TRACK LETS JUST WAIT A BIT MORE TO SEE RESULTS, OUR ROAD ALONG KATIMAMULILO ROAD IS BEING REPAIRED AT LEAST MWE…

  33. @PF, you are a delluded individual. Sata has broken promises toward you because he did not promise you anything, the one who promised you something was HH, sadly, he cannot deliver the promise because he lost convingly. Sata beat UPND by about 40% lol!

  34. #45 @PF is write. I will give you an example. if u were getting k5m at 35% first 1m is not taxed. 35% of k4m is k1.4m so yr salary is 1m+4m-1.4m= k3.6m.
Now with 2m not taxed it works out 2m+3m-1.05m=k3.95m k350,000 mo money in yr pocket and not k1m

  35. I wonder what  the much talked dead party UPND  would have done. what a pity. Zambian Comrades you talk too much on foolish topics.

  36. Very good article indeed except for the tuma-big words pa last. Anyway I for one knew very well that Sata can never turn things around as he is a product of the past and cannot manage what is obtaining now in politics especially that he is not educated enough to run the country. We are told that leaders are born and not made but for this one tinaitaya too much. Ma-experiment ma Zambians yachilamo. May be we also wanted to try the man of action kapena ingapiking’eko but alas we are in maningi trouble than never before. I end here!

    • You are dull and ill- informed dear citizen.I pity you. dont be booky learn to read , assimilate what you read, understand and put your thoughts in your own words thank being booky. Its called plagiarism. you have not made any comment at all.improve your analytic prowess.

    • @53 You are dull and ill- informed dear citizen.I pity you. dont be booky learn to read , assimilate what you read, understand and put your thoughts in your own words thank being booky. Its called plagiarism. you have not made any comment at all.improve your analytic prowess.

  37. No. 38, What a stupit question. what do you expect? You who voted for him are his blind supportersnd us who didnt will be busy looking for faults. He has to convince us he is consisted. But earlu warnings are in his decision making and appointments. Allegic to curruption but appoints currupt people and single sources while prosecuting Ex-single sourcers. Anyway, ni dont Kubebe. But toka mishinina after soon enough. We are watching

  38. :x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x
Where on earth have you seen everything change in 90 days? I did not vote for MCS but i can say i am beginning to some little change and am sure by 5years it will be better than MMD’s 20yrs.Be real people. Chief’s salaries where increase over 100%, interest rates have reduced, free medical attention etc is it not something to start with? Realist.

  39. Where on earth have you seen everything change in 90 days? Chief’s salaries where increased over 100%, interest rates have reduced, free medical attention etc is it not something to start with? Realist.

  40. MCS has now beaten the southern province president (HH) three times. we should not even mention him in such topics. sata has 58 months to rule zambia and has only done 2 months. bikeni bola panshi ba guy!!!!

  41. # 53

You are dull and ill- informed dear citizen.I pity you. dont be booky learn to read , assimilate what you read, understand and put your thoughts in your own words thank being booky. Its called plagiarism. you have not made any comment at all.improve your analytic prowess.

  42. The reduction in the borrowing cost is very good. A positive. However,Zambians must learn that they now have to take banks to task for not reflecting their new tax savings by a further decrease in lending rates, maybe by 1.5%. The cost of doing business here is still high. The problem is that, we Zambians can protest against government but cannot protest against capitalists!

  43. You ar right sons and daughters of the soil, use the vote in parliament and remove PF and its kolwe style of governance.

    • sata,s appointments of chungu & mwamba has been a disappointment coz he knows these thieves have skeletons in their closets, he must also & address youth unemployment. but all kudos to him coz his first step to develop this nation is on a good note. he is better than rb who only came to steal from the pipo of zambia. some pf critics are really licking their wounds looking at their language. just accept that sata is your president & it will be like this for the next 5 years

  44. The promise was that you and I will see change in 90 days, period. Those of have not seen change are not realistic.Of course am not supporting the appointment of individuals with corrupt cases in court but genuine change is visible.

  45. No. 26 is an ***** who does not deserve the time of day. If you want to debate on tribe and malign tongas, then bembas are also thieves, period.

  46. Whatever you write, it wont make your under 5 popular. Remember at first you were busy shouting that Sata would never be presido, you lost, now you are misleading pipo that he has failed. What has he failed on? To hell with your ka regional party!

  47. Article author, whether or not you like it PF is on the “THRONE”. Keep talking until you talk no more. Where have you seen what you are talking about happen in a short period of time? Not even in the US. As PF supporters we have already started to see light at the end of the tunnel.

  48. Throwing pearls before pigs.
This is what such articles do. If it was written against MMD, there would be hope of reasoned debate, but against PF? Forget it. PF supporters are blindly loyal to their blind leader. Funny that even Nine Chale’s and The Post contributions these days are strangely innocuous. ‘Love (of Sata) is covering a multitude of sins.’

  49. Is ‘initiating’ development projects and constitutution implementation within 90 days really an achievement? I would imagine any sensible person that would have won the elections is expected to start doing something well within 90 days. Lets just accept that we accepted to be duped or just plainly got so fed up of the previous Government that whatever lie we were told would have been enough to vote for change. And now we are in a new error (no its not a spelling mistake, we are actually in a new error).

  50. As for those of you who are saying that we should give Sata more time, it is Mr Sata HIMSELF who PROMISED that he would deliver in 90 days! This is the compact he entered into with the Zambian people. He had a choice to leave it open ended or to chose 90 months, but he chose 90 days. So he should be held to account for his promises. Democracy is to hold people accountable to their promises and not to excuse them. He has failed. So, if promises mean nothing, then why do we have elections?

  51. If you think MMD were the Sakalanyongos, wait and see PF! Zambia will be molested to the max. watch my words, kabwili in english.. is a hole !

  52. Mr. Ability: True, actually that’s the fear the Zambian people need to have, the skepticism. The PF might catch Zambians off guard.

  53. Who ever the author of this article has a very shallow mind and is slow in assimilating matters, even when a race begins, you do not declare the winner when only a quarter of the race has been done. The PF has not even implemented their first budget and yet you are already making conclusions. Open your eyes my friend and stop politics, be realistic in your analysis. At least make such comments at the end of next year, then i will agree with you. Why dwell on the negatives? If we were to look at your personal life you have probably made more mistakes than anyone else who has read your article.*fyola*

  54. #70 – with all the cheap points in the article, you should realise that Sata did not say PF will bring all development within 90 days but categorically stated that he would initiate and bring dignity to the Zambian People in 90 days and I think he is doing just that. Whilst I might not agree with some of his appointments, I am confident that Zambia has taken a good direction. Someone has to be dull to have based his vote purely on 90 days. Please lets not mislead ourselves but rather work in unison towards a common good.

  55. In 60 days, Michael has been in state house working, never board presidential jet, no holiday in Mfuwe, successfully exposed many scams under investigations, budget reflecting PF campaign message. Excellent! Despite a few errors, like appointments, I rate HE MCS and PF 80%. IF ALL MARRIED MEN / WOMEN were to rate each other and make judgement in the first 60 days of marriage; divorce was going to be inevitable. Bravo HE MCS and PF!

  56. The other day ZNBC (which has only changed by praising PF instead of MMD) showed a University in Chinsali which is under construction. Ati “its a demonstration of PF’s Government’s dedication to …”. This a structure that, clearly, was started more than two years ago… and 60 days after elections “Its a demonstration of PF’s…”. How nuseating!. That’s the freedom of the press some are refering to?

  57. it is very true about  Councillor Mulenga Sata acquiring two brand new 4×4’s within 60 days of his father becoming president…i think a commission of enquiry needs to be set up.

  58. PF cadres u amaze me with your insults am sure MOST of u who are insulting are so myopic.Everyone has the right to air their views and opinions, mind you its not that all that Sata does or say is correct,so grow up and stop insulting .Learn to analyse issues and debate am sure this forum is for debating not insulting.most of us on this forum are the younger generation so with these insults do you think we will have the analytical skills (for situations) required to make future leaders.Whatever we say let us remember that we are the future leaders.

  59. PF cadres are excited not because of what PF can do, but just to have PF in power.
Whether they are cheated or not, PF cadres dont care. The only thing they will do is reduce on the celebrations of PF victory but keep an inner happiness.
PF has not helped the youths at all – the president has made most of his appointments from the old folk, even those who seem not interested at all like Chikwanda have been put in the bandwqagon.
In the Budget of PF there has been no “structural” change but all the structure is MMD budget structure. All that has changed are variables, showing that nothing new, except worse can be expected from PF.
How can you fill the nation with commisions made up of cadres when we have professional investigative wings who can do a better job?

  60. @Ground Zero, honestly you are being petty, Commission of Inquiry for two 4x4s? A councillor can afford that. Besides, he has been involved in his father’s businesses, why can’t he afford two 4x4s, even I can!

  61. @KCI, you are wrong in your calc. e.g If you earns K5m, the net pay will be K4,140,000.
Break down: First 2m is tax free. 2m -2.8m @25% tax you earn K 0.6m ,2.8m-5m@ 30% you earn about K1.54m. You wont be taxed @35% becoz you earn below K5.7m. Therefore, 2m+0.6m+1.54m=K4.140m. Pliz check the tax bands.

  62. The PF cadres have vowed to trust SATA at all costs.
They are like a frog – which dies in water when that water is heated slowly without realising heat is increasing.
Despite SATA’s many mistakes within just sixty days, they are still hopeful the actions of SATA will bring them benefit.
Dispite SATA lying on the 90 days delivery of the constitution and many other things, including lower taxes they still stay in the warming water; the temperatures are already above 40 degrees celsius yet they feel room temperature, oh my!!!
Each time they wake up they believe SATA will pour some money in their pockets.
They have not realised that using his “donchi kubeba” policy he did not disclose to them that he meant his close friends being appointing on commisions, being the ones to have money.

  63. THE TONGAS CAN ALL VOTE FOR HH WE DO NOT CARE, LET US SEE HOW FAR THAT CRAP WILL TAKE YOU … YOU WERE BORN TO RULED BY OTHER TRIBES.. ASK ANY TRIBE IF THE CAN VOTE FOR A TONGA THE ANSWER IS NO NO NO NO,,,,ONLY TONGAS VOTE TONGA YOU SHALL ALWAYS BE A MINORITY ….SAY WHAT YOU LIKE BUT THATS A FACT 72 TRIBES V 1 TONGA TRIBE NO CONTEST BAASA

  64. Why are we having this divisive and dangerous ‘Tea Party’ articles lately? And it also seems that tribalism seems to dwell on either Bembas or Tongas while we have 73 tribes. Branding Sata tribalist is just utter absurd. The guy is Bisa and I would want to know how many Bisas he has appointed. He is perhaps against his tribe. For those ignorant people out there the man is not Bemba. He is the first president in post colonial Africa with a Caucasian as his vice. People should just have a look at the spreadsheet of presidential appointees and will be surprised how balanced it is. As for southern province, you overwhelmingly voted for a losing candidate and retrogressively, you will be at a loss with appointments. Just how can you work with someone totally disagreeing with you?

  65. Let me make an official statement of what I think causes tribalism. Tribalism is mainly a fruit of inferiority. The problem is that the Tongas got excited when UPND came along that they all voted for UPND without reason. They warmed up to HH as well when he was clearly instated on tribal grounds. Guys, even if Given Lubinda stood on the Copperbelt, he would be voted in, even if he stood in Northern province he would be voted in. Tell me any MP you have in Eastern province, UPND? Maybe Copperbelt? Lusaka, well I need to confirm lol!!!

  66. When PF was lieing that 90 days MMD with the support of UPND were lieng that they would finish the roads by elction time. TIT FOR TAT. Good for Sata

  67. The article is spot on.
What we have to understand is that:
1.We all expected PF to lay a good foundation within 90 days
2.Why we applaud positive aspects,we need to watch out for all negative aspects and talk about them
What we can not argue about is that the MAN was given a 5 year mandate to govern this country so let him govern.
I personally expected a rejuvenated SATA who should have leant a lot of lessons from the past and use those lessons to better look after the affairs of this country in a prudent manner.
The world has changed and SATA needs to make up for his inadequacies by consulting people of high integrity and experience. We should also note that he also has his strong capabilities as a human being.
I can only hope the best for this country as we soldier on.

  68. Batman@91 Indeed we do need a new breed of leaders how old were KK,Sikota Wina, Mwanga, Kavindele, Chongwe,RB, Chikwanda, H Nkumbula,HE MCS and the lot when they first became leaders ???? These people need to give a chance to the young generation… How old is Cameron ? Obama ? its time we broke of from this trend of older leaders and have a fresh approach. HE MCS should be the last leader from the old school, It is a known fact PF is going to be in power for another 3 terms at the most. PF need to groom some young leaders to take over for 2016 elections MCS is a man of action he has achieved what he was brought on this earth for to sort out Zambia. which he will have done within the next 3 years

  69. The article is alright. Its good to review your progress and even your promises. Its the only way you can improve on your past. Let us discuss national matters in a mature way, we are adults. All of us want Zambia to be a better and prosperous place.

As for tribalism, LT must censor that. Tribalism.

  70. Unless you are Christopher Columbus, you dont reach the east by going west! Whist Sata has just done 3% of his tenure, the first few steps he has so far made are retrogressive . He is taking us backwards. For him to show that he will take us somewhere, he needs to show us the first few steps in the right direction, and on this, unless you are diehard PF cadre, you need a microscope to see those steps.

  71. You were warned but you did not listen. Sata is experienced when it comes to speaking ill of things but he is not presidential material. He can be good as an MP and not president because you can not get someone from the streets and make him president. That is just so wrong

  72. time has come for results not insults. why appoint corrupt people? no regards for the law of land. No wonder he cant shift into statehouse !complicated man.

  73. ice_road_trucker@95 Not everyone is as well mannered as you are mate, but you are right LT should curb tribalism on this site, we have too much insults and disrespectful tribal comments allowed.. despite my flag l am in London maybe we need to put up a better site that will benefit people whose concerns are to better our country and not a certain tribal and uncouth section of our country. it is after all 1 zambia 1 nation and that it shall always remain. Good day

  74. Chiluba transformed MMD into Kapwepwe’s UPP; Mwanawasa tried to restore the MMD though he borrowed ideas from UPND. RB transformed MMD into UNIP while Sata has taken Chiluba’s path of restoring UPP. Guy Scott, Bob Sichinga and Given Lubinda are MMD originals and will not last for five years in Sata’s cabinet. Its only the likes of GBM, Willie Nsanda, Xaviour Chungu, and all of Chiluba’s associates that can sail on the UPP’s boat.

  75. @38 Italian Bunga Bunga (Original) Calm down, take easy just mind 90days is drawing near. Even former Italian prime minister Silvo Berlusconi conceded things have failed with him. Mr Sata PF govt is not reassuring Zambians and flip flop statements and recycling people with brocken promises is what is worrying Zambians. Yes, PF members and Bunga Bunga do not see anything wrong in Mr Sata’s approach to tackling national issues(a mother never sees a son’s lunacy). However, to prompt Mr Sata to his pledge and campaign promises is just and fair. Appolo Chikwanda’s co. renovating state house is not a good sign of Sata being allegic to corruption. Our duty is to remind him of such things. Fair Bunga Bunga?

  76. On income tax how low can people expect? The situation on the ground is diferent, you just wonder the collection of information for assessment. You the same people in RB entered nolle on Chiluba. If he was appointed the same MMD this time could insulting. We know no one is perfect thats why MMD spent 20 years in returdation of the well being of Zambians. Give chance because you evalution tools are too sharp that they can sence your failures as others failures.

  77. Come on guys. Why can’t UPND fellows shutup and face their misery of organising their dying party. HH – Hatombwe Hikubba

  78. Generally I do not learn post on blogs, however I would like to say that this write-up very compelled me to try and do so! Your writing taste has been surprised me. Thank you, quite great post.
