President Sata has authorised the creation of 650 health posts across the country. This is contained in a press statement made available to the media by Special Assistant to the president for Press and Public Relations George Chellah.

The health posts and residence facilities will be equipped with solar systems, equipment and furniture, hand pumps, medicines and dressing materials among others.
As a result, President Sata has instructed the Minister of Health Dr. Joseph Kasonde, to step up the recruitment of health personnel both locally and abroad to ensure the new health posts are adquately staffed.

“I have also instructed Dr Kasonde to take a survey of the conditions of service for medical personnel in the region in order for us to see how we can curb brain drain as well as attract our well trained citizens who are currently in the Diaspora,” President Sata said.

The President’s directive is in line with the Patriotic Front campaign promise to improve the health sector by facilitating the building of vital infrastructure that will deliver primary healthcare as close as possible to the people.

“This is why we opposed the expensive procurement of mobile hospitals which have been unable to reach all parts of the country. The new health posts will expand the healthcare infrastructure and therefore reach many people in the outlying areas,” the President said.

Meanwhile, the president has created a new district called Nsama between Kaputa and Mporokoso districts in Northern Province.

In a letter to the Provincial Minister, the President directed that a suitable place for the district headquarters be identified in liason with all stakeholders, political parties and their Royal Highnesses.

Last Friday, January 13, 2012 President Sata created three districts, namely:Chikankata, Chirundu and Mulobezi.

The President’s decision was in line with his campaign promise to decentralise government operations for the effective and efficient delivery of services to the people.

  1. we are in for a shock of our life, creating districts , provinces and renaming places ,is the so called development this government promised? why creat so many districts when the available are unble to function efficientry and are these post in heath ministry budgeted for.all SATA does not understand all this

  2. O.K sounds good mr president. but as a health professional, I will think twice going back home to work at a remote health post, leaving behind my $3500 a month wage and better facilities here. Will have to check what they are offering first.

    • Depends on what level you are – I know of Zambians getting that sort of money in that sector. So dont be discouraged and be a bit patriotic. Its not only what the country can do for you but what you also can do for your country

    • Is that all you get per month? I drive trucks in Australia and I get twice that amount. I think Drs here get a whole lot compared to $3,500/month

    • Hey Ncholoco come to Aussie. It is a great place. you are wasting time in the USA. Your pay as a nurse here will move to $5000+ monthly

  3. Nomba mwe ma Health personnel mwilakana ukubomba mu rural. Sata is going to give you incentives for doing so now. Next should be Teachers.

  4. I hope this is well-planned. You don’t want to create health institutions without medicine. What plans are there, boss? Because if this is just political populism, you will be back tracking pretty soon.

  5. hope not just talking, we need actions, rb tried despite his soft spot for corrupt chaps. hey tell mbulu to stop bullshiting about kalulushi kalengwa road, it’s rb who stared it just like mwanawasa started lusaka hospital and ndola stadium.

    • yes my friend, wonder what discontented put downs the disgruntled Sata haters will come up with, let us support what our president and his govt are doing —this is job creation PF promised

  6. Have teachers been paid outstanding salaries?

What kind of environment are these new hires going to operate in?

  7. @14 Zibwidi ——————Where is HH you ask ? This is bad news to him, he would rather see Zambia burn, than see our president fulfill his promises, this to HH and his tonga tribal party is a negative, HH is probably at the under5 clinic, seeking a cure to stop him stewing in his own shame, his hatred for HE MCS our democratically elected president is choking the boy. Simple cure to his problem is lekeni kateka HE MCS ateki. Unlike other party leaders, our President has always had development of our nation at his heart, no personal intrests.

  8. Why does this president feel he must do everything?! Too many press statements! What are ministers there for??!! Just to be given orders?? I really fail to understand his thinking. The president should not have to be involved for anything to work, but that is where we are headed! Sata breaks down/destroys structures and systems, which are essential for government to work. Everything must revolve around him. For anything to be done, the order must come from him!! When he is removed, everything crumbles because the structures are gone. Just ask people who were there during his tenure as Minister of Health. He caused serious damage!!

  9. perfect move, people in rural areas need better health care, atleast good clinics near them with enough staffs and medicine. Rb fumbled on mobile hospitals wich could not reach every corner of our country.

  10. Where are all those alarmists who were saying extension of retirement age will deny young people jobs?

This is the answer they have been looking for.

If you qualify for the jobs is entirely up to you, but no one is looking to deny any one any job. I would like to hear UPNDs Mweetwa respond to such things instead of critising just because your scr=otum needs to be scratched.

  11. #14 Zibwidi, Ka HH is in Zambia Watchdog’s Newsroom compiling tomorrow’s editor’s choice and busy deleting anti UPND posts on the website!! kekekek

  12. All ‘to be budgeted for’. How about employing financial analysists at ministry of finance who can leverage the available money so that all government employees can be paid adequately.

  13. the idea of creating more health post for far places is good idea, but certainly not cheap.one might think this is money well spent. i think. i dont why the author had to add the usual crazy and insane news of creating districts. it’s a costly venture that will add nothing to zambia except inflate our budget. i think this is money poorly spent.

  14. Nice! 650 posts but I’m not packing my bags any time soon to work in some rural area.I have a family and need to know that there will be good schools for my kids, good utility services. Its not just about creating posts and providing solar power but anyway all the best.

  15. So how do we expect our government to put up all these health posts, I mean where is the money going to come from? The money will definately come from government cofers if corruption is reduced. Hence our support for HEMCS to fight this animal called corruption. WÉLL DONE MR PRESIDENT

  16. Well said Kwekwe. This is why I am against people who say the PF is spending too much time on corruption. I have no statistics for Zambia but in Kenya one-third of government budget is spent on corruption. In Kenya Withongo is a corruption activist something like our own post. But will the fight against corruption be sustained by PF before it succumbs to it?

  17. Thanks MOA (man of action) Also create one in Lundazi at between Lundazi and Chama at either EMUSA or Echikeni people need a Boma local administration there. MCS you have heard

  18. # 35 You didn’t vote for PF Sata to deserve a new district. Your area is twice the size of combining 2 new districts created in Northern province. However, I envy your belief in Chifumu Banda (MP) for Emusa who has single handedly developed your constituency than most MMD chaps now on corruption charges.

  19. How people survive in zambia on $1 a day, such hot sickeing weather, and in such road condtions I left, is quiete frankly frightening
The sights I saw when I was in Zambia two days ago are uninspiring and with my MBA , ACCA CIMA and soon PHD, my anology is that we need devine intervention , all i can see is a landscape of a suffering country, so deep are the wounds in it that , they may never be healed

I did not like anything I saw in Zambia, I kept shaking my head and I wont go back to Zambia again.

    Thanks

    • welcome back mushota, how is your grandmother and your father. it is good you visited your country..don’t worry about poverty that is why you are getting your PHD to help reduce the levels of poverty….. what do you think?

  20. welcome back mushota, how is your grandmother and your father. it is good you visited your country..don’t worry about poverty that is why you are getting your PHD to help reduce the levels of poverty….. what do you think?

  21. Good morning

Yes, these are the headlines we want to see. A great move by the president and let’s hope this wont be one of those “launch and go” projects that just exist on paper. People will certainly appreciate their new government when they start to feel the effects of an improved health care system.

  22. All those who have decided names of districts you wish to have or where to place some district headquarters can phone constable Sata on 0977 454453 and he will be happy to promptly create a district for you. Thank you.

  23. kwena bafikalahh just a simple pronouncement excites you like this, there are a lot of implications to this pronouncement it`s not like things will just work out automatically.there are very big financial implications which come with that loleleni.

  24. It is not enough to just creat so called health posts and man them with junior ill qualified stuff,we need good roads leading to some these places thats why MMD started massive road construction throughout the country which you have stopped for reasons best known to your catholic friends. The other thing is prpoer equipment not just beds but diagnostic and therapeutic equipment like ultra sound machines, microscopes etc.Too much talking unreseached directives won’t take the country anywhere bwana cop.

  25. IWE # 44 WE DON’T CARE HOW MUCH IT COSTS, IF THE BENEFICIARIES ARE ALL ZAMBIANS! IT IS DEFINITELY MONEY BETTER SPENT THAN THE MOBILE HOSPITALS OR THE MPUNDU TRUST VLLAS!

  26. The headline is misleading because it makes one think that a health post is a position. A health post is the lowest health facility in our health care system (smaller than a health centre) and usually found at a village or remote community.

  27. We know where the money is coming from tor all these health centres. One or twom provinces are footing the bill for muchinga.

  28. Currently the govt is in excess of funds because of the tremendous cut down on presidential foreign trips, ministers’s foreign frequent shopping trips, civil servants unnecessary workshops, allowances for presidential aides, allowances for civil servants etc, etc, etc. Therefore, the present govt is saving approximately US $10 million per day as compared to the previous govts especially of RB which used to spend approximately US $20 million per day on workshops, allowances and foreign trips. Viva Pf!! Viva H.E.MCS!!! This is indeed great leadership!!! Ukuteeka ukuu!!!

  29. This is a good move, his is to pronounce things and give policy direction the technocrates are the one to work out the full picture. The picture should include when do you plan for this, which budget will support this activity, what is the time frame for implementation. What is the sustainability of this approach. What is the minimum qualification to run these health posts. As for attracting health professionals back into govt, this is also a well come move. Normally govt is the best long term employer.

  30. Benchmarking in the region is the best move.Come and check what we get and what conditions are here its a neighbouring state not USA or AUSSIE-(by the way some guys here are getting USD 3,300/month)and you will get good number of staff from the region once you improve. There is lots of experience with latest medical tech and we can come and teach and ask you to procure such for the hospitals.BUT not in rural health posts!

  31. While bakolwe are ululating, I wonder who built the facilities that these health workers are going to go into or are they to be built yet?  Is Sata finalising what MMD started and taking credit – yet again?  His govt cannot have built facilities to accommodate 650 new staff in the last 90 days, surely?  Or is it the usual more talk, no action.

  32. Its not health posts that improve people’s lives-its good food, nutrition, infrastructure and a peace of mind through better prosperity

  33. pandi neka who told you that a health post needs 5 pipo??? what where are these going to be put and at what cost. Budget under health does not show this kind of money ufi ufi ufi

  34. I see nothing wrong in creating more districts, after all we have districts that are even bigger than Tunisia and Israel. In Uganda where I am resident, a country just slightly bigger than the old Northern province of Zambia (before Muchinga province came in) there are 73 districts. This improves goverment administration mwebantu mwe. In this time and age, we cannot have districts so large that it takes 5 hrs to drive across. I urge Mr. President to ignore such comments. Mucibemba tutila “Uwakwensha ubushiku, bamutasha ilyo bwaca”. Continue Mr. President; two-three years down the line many of these current critics with appreciate what you are doing.

  35. As for building more heal centres, it is commendable bane. After so many years of being an independent nation and with enviable resources, everyone of our people must have access to a good health facility. Our country has so much money that a wise leadership cannot fail to improve our standard of living. The President understands that when theft by public servants, misuse of GRZ resources on useless trips and seminars and misappropriation of money are controlled, building, equipping and getting manpower for these health centres will be a piece of cake. Just give him chance because he is in the driver’s seat.

  36. Heya i’m for the primary time here. I found this board and I to find It really useful & it helped me out much. I hope to provide one thing again and aid others such as you aided me.

  37. It is good decision to improve quality of life , there are many purchases in the past of expensive and fancy medical equipment & furnitures particularly from USA, UK, Europe .Its high time to take decisions like this. Indian Medical Furniture is one of the best in world when it comes to durability and longevity. Around the world we need leaders like this who takes such pro-active decisions and beneficial to country in the long run.Whatever good you do you will always find people crticisizing it.
