President Michael Sata has conveyed his and the nation’s gratitude to the Chipolopolo boys for their remarkable achievement of qualifying for the final of the prestigious 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in a press statement released by Statehouse to the media today.

And President Sata has called on the corporate world to motivate the Zambia National Soccer Team ahead of this weekend’s final match with Ivory Coast.

In his message to the Chipolopolo boys, the President said the team rose to the challenge at a critical stage to eliminate one of the finest teams in Africa, Ghana, whose historical stature is bigger than Zambia having won the tournament four times.

“But that rich history did not cow you into submission, instead it added to your resolve to write a different chapter on African football. On behalf of all Zambians, I wish to congratulate you on this breath-taking feat. You are the pride of our beloved country,” the President said.

“I am cognisant of the fact that this is the first time in 18 years that we are reaching the final and only the third in the history of the tournament. We lost 1-2 to Nigeria in 1994 and 0-2 in the twice played final of 1974 against Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo), when Zambia competed for the first time.”

President Sata said the quality of football the team is displaying defines the true character and spirit of the Zambian people, who always strive to be winners.

“As you go into the final, I urge you to fight for the nation in getting rid of the pain of losing your gallant colleagues who perished off the coast of Gabon in 1993. Continue with your hard work, dedication and determination to the job at hand,” the President said.

“You stand at a very emotional point with your eyes firmly fixed on the title. And the nation believes in your collective ability and shares your desires and aspirations. Go for it, it’s Donchi Kubeba all the way!” the president said

Zambia play Ivory Coast in Sunday’s final, the first time the teams are meeting at this stage of the tournament. But Zambia beat Ivory Coast 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the 1994 edition; two years after the West Africans had won their first and only title.

And President Sata has invited the corporate world to join forces and find ways and means of motivating the Chipolopolo boys ahead of this weekend’s final match with Ivory Coast.

  1. We pride in our boys for a magnificent performance. But sir, keep your “Don’t kubeba” to your circus regime of hollow hoaxes because rational Zambian majority have nothing to do with their common interest. Its a doomed legacy.

  2. Ummmh, big words from the President. Thanks for your encouraging words to the chipolopolo boys your excellence. Cheers

  3. We proud of you guys for making our Country to be back on the map of Soccer. Thanks Mr. President for the powerful message you have just delivered to everyone. Let us support of team still there bring the cup home for the time this coming Sunday. Go Zambia Go!!!!!

  4. We belief in ourselves as Zambians and pray for the trophy to come to Zambia this time around. All the best boys!

  5. Senior Citizen I have a rop you can use to kill yourself you hater! Give me your number I will call you mugboy!

  6. We are proud of you guys for making our Country to be back on the map of Soccer. Thanks Mr. President for the powerful message you have just delivered to everyone and not only to the team. Let us support of team still there bring the cup home for the time this coming Sunday. Go Zambia Go!!!!!

  7. #4 do you even watch football? Do you know what song the players are singing every time they score? The streets of Zambia last night was full of Donchi Kubeba after we won the game. The Zambian people have associated the games with donchi whether you like it or not. Viva Sata, Viva PF VIVA Chipolopolo.

  8. 12th minute and 21st minutes goals against Senegal,These were a prophisyd dates that shall play on the 21st Jan and the 12 th feb

  9. I had earlier mentioned that Zamba had fewer chances of going through to the final and I was very right. Zambia only had 6 shots on the goal while Ghana had 13 shots. But the difference is Zambia utilised most of the fewer chances and managed to score one. Ghana was a better side but wasted their chances so they lost. Coming to the Ivory coast mali game Ivory Coast were favourites and they toook the day. For the cup final on Sunday Ivory coast are favourites and they have more chances of winning than Zambia. Its up to Zambia to maximise their fewer chances like they did with Ghana. Best wishes to Zambia. This is an indepenednt and unbiased anaylysis. Any sensible person will agree with me.

    • keep quiet you f00l…. Ghana were favourite and where are the pompus idi0ts. Its 11 men vs 11 men –
at least Chipolopolo can run for 90 minutes….and will shoooot the elephant twice in the head —– mayuka & chris will be joint top scoreres ! Go hang mamabala with your misplaced fovourites!

  10. We are just beating Ivory Coast without looking at names and fake ratings from brain washing FIFA and European media So #16 do not face us to agree with you. Ivory Coast will not much Zambia’s quick football.

    • being certain about victory in football is not correct especially with a team like Zambia, you can only explore the possibility of an outcome. Ivory coast is a better team and if Zambia wins it will be luck just as it was with Ghana.

  11. DON’T (DONCHI) KUBEBA, DONCHI KUBAMBILA, DONCHI KUBAUZA, DON’T TELL THEM.
VIVA COPPER BULLETS, VIVA SATA, VIVA ZAMBIA, VIVA ZAMBIANS, VIVA COACH. TULEYABUKA AGAIN PABWATO. WE NEED STATE OF THE ART STADIA IN ALL PROVINCES OF ZAMBIA.

  12. Its a go…………………………………….al! Zambia took the day, and we will shine again on Sunday. Zambia is special, and Zambians are good people. We are the only country with no history of coups, civil war, tribalism, Boko Haram, terrorism etc. Instead our country is enriched with love and kindness. We sacrificed for the freedom of South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia. We are the only country in Africa with a history of this humanitarian gesture. We are the quiet but diligent winners. Watch this space, we are proud of our chipolopolo boys. You can win boys, YES YOU CAN! There is nothing to fear other than fear itself. Thanks Mr President for the support to our team. You are dead right, DONCHI KUBEBA, IFWE TATUSOKOLOLA IYOO!

  13. It took 10 yrs from 1964-1974 after independence to reach the first AFCON final with DRC,under UNIP.ZAM 0 vs DRC 2
It took 4 yrs from 1990-1994 after change of Gorvernment with NIGERIA,under MMD.ZAM 1 vs NIG 2
It has only taken 6 months under PF Gorvernment to reach the finals. Therefore total number of months under PF’s rule minus total number of goals scored by ZAM,DRC and IVORY COAST will be the winning goal in favour of Zambia come sunday.
ZAMBIA 1 vs IVORY COAST 0

  14. Guess what the president called the captain of the team Christopher, immediately after the match & Chris conveyed the message to the entire team. They were exicited cos of the encouraging message and the promise of hefty pay to be given to them. Chintu Kampamba is likely to play in the final.

  15. # 4 Senior Citizen, you are such a pain at in the **** @ the wrong time! We are in no mood to be shouting at morons like you! Ofcourse the scoring song for the Chipolopolo is ‘DONCHI KUBEBA’. GO ZAMBIA GO!

  16. Chances of zambia beating ivory coast are 3 out of 10 so dont be over confident. If zambia makes maximum utilisation and get s luck that 3/10 could give them victory

  17. No 16, you are dead right. Ghana had more chances, but that only goes to show that in life you can have so many chances but there are useless if you do not utilise them. Chances and actually utilising those chances is the key to success. Such is the philosophy of life. It shows our boys think on their feet and use the opportunity to strike every time the chance is availed. Mere creation of chances is not good enough, and we will show them again on Sunday, that we are create the chance, and seize it. Its a go…………………………al!

  18. LOOKING FOWARD FOR THE GARBON COMMISSION OF INQUIRY AND A FULL DETAILED REPORT.

    GOD BLESS OUR BLESSED MOTHERLAND

  19. VERY TOUCHING WORDS MR. PRESIDENT, MY PRESIDENT. YES WE ARE INVOKING THE SOULS OF OUR BELOVED GARLAND BROTHERS WHO DIED AT THE SERVICE OF THE NATION. AND BY THE WAY, YOU DID WELL NOT TO GO AS SOME PRESIDENTS AND THEIR FIRST LADIES JUST WENT TO WITNESS THE FALL OF THEIR BOYS. ON THE CONTRARY, GOD HAS BLESSED US. “WHEN GOD SAYS YES, NO ONE CAN SAY NO.”

  20. Nevers Mu mba is a lia r and a mon ey lau ndering ma chine

Him and the de puty Mr Nz oya are ste aling tax pa yers money. They had fired Mr Tem bo beca use he knew about this sc am and was aga inst it. They also have a office slut , Caro lina Rod- riguez who is also abus ing the money. The Ottawa Zam bian mis sion are th ieves

  21. THE KK ELEVEN WILL BE ALSO PLAYING THERE SOULS WILL COME HOME WITH THE TROPHY……GO DERBY MAKINKA….GO TEACHER TIMOTHY MWITWA….EFFORD CHABALA IN GOAL…MWEENE WILL NOT BE ALONE…GO ZAMBIA TO THE GLORY OF OUR DEPARTED HEROES!

  22. The boys indeed are doing us a good publicity and building the reputation of the country, while you Sata and your alarmists minsters are busy destroying Zambia’s reputation abroad.Learn from the boys, action is better than words you are known for.

  23. The Spirit of Zambian football was greatly awaken yesterday in Kafue after the golden goal by Mayuka. Seven mobs of Kafue residents chanted hymns of praise and jubilation, some of them gathered at the ground near Betty hall in Kafue Town, people from night clubs came running in jubilation, equally in estates the residents from C5, C6 and C7 gathered at civic center and Nkhosa Stadium, the stadium was filled with more 700 people and the main market surrounded by many every street filled and shaken by great hymns. this indeed shows the spirit Zambians have for the victory of its motherland, Our President, is truly a soccer fan He know and understand the fiber that connects all Zambians, Ivory Coast should watch out, we are coming for a win, i can predict a 2-1 win for the Chipolopolo.

  24. #16 Juzz, if you say Ghana was the better side, then why isnt Ghana in the final? Soccer is played in 90min and has to be won in 90min having chances doesnt make you the better team the rules of soccer say that the better team is determined by the number of goals scored not the number of misses. People like you will forever have no hope in Zambia even when we win the cup, all teams knew the rules before the beginning of the game and the rules are that the better team will be determined by which team beats all, so if Ghana failed to beat Zambia (a supposedly useless team) then what makes you say Ghana was the better team? 90 min was given to determine which team is better and Zambia came out on top, accept that. we played a counter attack kind of game and it worked and we are in the FINALS

  25. Go boys Go, all the best!!

By the way, I can only remember the boys dancing to “Donchi Kubeba” in group game wins. After that, the celebrations have been different. Wonder if somebody told the the boys to stop imitating some morally corrupt chap!!

  26. I was just reading comments on Zambian football few days before the start of the tournament. Most blogers here will not even manage to read what they wrote about Zambia. You were all talking Demba Ba. Let us read our comments when Zambia drew with Namibia and see if can still stand tall and say what we said again

  27. Now that politicians want to hijack the victory and attribute the performance to themselves with senseless slogans, come sunday we will all be blaming the ref.Let soccer fans celebrate period.

  28. Many of us love the beautiful game which we have followed for many decades now. We support our local clubs, european clubs and follow so many other leagues in world football. The AFCON has come alive again after CAF intervened so that African soccer stars plying their trade in europe and elsewhere be mandated to play for their countries unless they retire from international soccer or are injured. The Zambian soccer team has done us proud – the play is beautiful, the resolve clear and the determination unquestionable. Go chipolopolopolo go! Zambian soccer has nothing to do with tribe, creed, race or political affiliation. So to say ‘dont kubaba’ or whatever is ut of place in football. National politics and football do not mix…so lets enjoy the game..MMD,PF,UPND etc

  29. Like I have said before, Zambia has been the most entertaining team in this tournament. Yes, Ivory Coast have not lost a single match, so have we. Had the pitch not been water-logged when we played Libya, they would have lost. I still blame the match officials. That aside, Ivory Coast; Be afraid – very afraid. The boys are coming to Libreville with one thing in mind – slaying giants.

  30. I can only thank God for what has been achieved so far and believing the chipolopolo boys are bring the cup back home. Its amazing to see and experience the love among us all.lets pray for the boys and believe because we have done it. Don’t criticise the team and jump after the win, rally behind and support them it doesnt hurt. Thank you our president. And people don’t fear ivory coast before hand have you no confidence

  31. Very nice words of encouragement from the President but please guys let’s keep the donchi kubeba out of this, the team and its feats and achievements are for all Zambians, whether UPND, PF, ADD, or MMD. The qualification to the AFCON finals took place over a period of time, well before donchi kubeba took office. Maybe a word of appreciation is in order to those who strategised, encouraged and toiled to get the team where it is now. Much like the maize bumper harvest you know, it was there before donchi kubeba but we are all enjoying it now and the architects are not boasting about it :-). Anyway, let’s not spoil the cheers with useless politics, GO ZAMBIA GO GO GO!!!

  32. My question is still: where is Simata and Kamanga, who said the standards of football are going down because of poor management by Kalusha Bwalya and team. Nga ba Munaile balikwi. Viva, Zambia, Vita FAZ. Viva everyone.

  33. The positive thing about our team is that they have belief and our coach is always on hand to advise at the height of each game. He has also managed to instil discipline in the team. May the best team win on Sunday.

  34. Ba LT, Zambia never beat Ivory coast in the quarter final, but group stages of the 1994 Afcon. We were placed in the same group as Ivory coast together with Sierra Leone. We drew 0-0 with SL and then beat Ivory coast to win the group and get through to the QTR Finals.

  35. This is the time to come together as One Zambia One nation, Dont starting bring critical ideas let the boys play with blessings from all Zambians. Even thieves should stop stealing that day just for mother Zambia. Even the opposition should support the team not always provoking each other. Learn to forgive and forget HH and Sampa

  36. So long as you politicise the footbsll team I cannot support it. I hope they lose so that the association of Donch kubeba to our NATIONAL football team will stop. Next PF will be asking us to say Donch Kubeba after saying “AMEN” in Church.

  37. Good evening & well done Zambia once again!

Yes gentelemeni, you have the official approcal of the President – go for it and bring the trophy home! Don’t play for the second place because you are destined to be Nambala one!

OK, I have to confess that when I calculate our chances with realism, I get a sour feeling in my stomach, especially looking at Man City’s Kolo, Yahya Toure, Chelsea’s Kalou, Drogba and Aresenal’s swift dribbler Gervinho. But then, we managed to hold down Ayew, Gyan and a number of other Black Stars who play in top European Clubs yesterday. It will be anything else but easy to stop the elephants, but the most important thing is that we can do it!

  38. Mmmmmmm, ati ba @Deep Throat:

Somebody with a bone to chew with the President for no reasons at all! What a sorry a*s that you are!!

If the President can’t join in the celebrations the country is having, and encourage the boys in Gabon to do us even prouder, who do you have in mind is the right person to do this, Simaata Simaata?!

Go get them boys! At least most of us Zambians were not not born to be negative all the time like Mr. @Shallow Throat above!!!

  39. Now ba @Deep Throat niba @ Kalikali?!!!!!!!

It seems you don’t even know what you wanna be called here. So how can you even know and tell when the President is saying something sensible and noncontrovercial? God have mercy!!!!!!!

  40. For those of you who may not know I´m Mushota Chimfwembe and I´m proud to be Zambian!
Barlinnie in Glasgow constitutes of 35% of blacks, yet the population in this glasgow has less than 4% black women and I was the only black woman laughing like hyena when Zambia stormed the finals!

Yes,inspired by my young age, small sized mind, fruastrations in my life and to crown it all racism here in Glasgow, I write a lot of crap on LT to make myself feel better, but that does not deter me from felicitating the much deserved win of the ´chipolopolo´boys(whatever that means)!

I´m Zambian after all is said and done
    Thanks

    • If you cant believe, you wont. No one goes into a game already defeated will come out victorious. You have to believe with absolute faith that you will do it.

  41. “Now faith Is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”….if the players hope for it (which they are), and believe that they can do it, they will do it.MENTAL FORTITUDE overcomes impossibilites. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or imagine….ACCORDING TO THE POWER THAT WORKETH IN US. This power is the faith, confidence courage….MENTAL FORTITUDE. Chipolopolo you have the faith of the mustered seed now tell the mountain called Ivory coast to Move!

  42. There is absolutely no-way Zambia can lose in Gabon. Whether they like it or not, this is Ivory Coast’s game to lose. Go Zambia,go… remember fallen heroes. Play with your hearts. Take your rightful place!!!!

  43. #Yambayamba: I have no bones to chew with the your president as a person. I have problems with the way he is mismanaging the country. If you want an intellectual debate, I can engage you. I don’t argue with know-nothings. The performance of the national team totally has nothing to do with your man. I am sure you’re one of the few benefiting from his incompetency.

    • Just shut the hell up! You want to start an argument you wont win? Yambayamba has already finished you with a few words and that should make you realise how shallow your thinking is. Bakupwisha and you want some more? Shame…..

  44. Some people have permanent illusions, seeing ghosts in every dark corner. Let’s be positive of Zambia’s victory. What is the basis of faith when names in the Ivory Coast rank sound familiar. Pafwe insofu, kalulu. This time it’s Zambia wining the cup.

  45. Noting to fear about Ivory Coast guys…..our boys are serious and are screwed on in footballing terms so am predicting a 2-0 Zambia win over the elephants.
To the President Mr. Sata, I say thank you sir for those encouraging words, but again do not end there….send another message of a hefty package ($30,000 each player) to the chipolopolo team. I tell you this gesture alone will motivate the players as they face the much fancied Ivory Coast side boasting of stars. Do not be greedy, give the boys what they deserve IF they lift the AFCON cup. Equatorial Guinea whom we had beaten in the final group match had been promised a whooping $1m bonus and they were given after defeating Libya 1-0….we got them money Mr. Presido….we can do it. Viva Zambia!!! am so proud to be Zambian.

  46. Thanx ba Presido 4 the encouraging words. However, words alone cannot motivate the boys.Patriotism na thank u taishita ubunga. FTJ gave the 1994 team tuma ten pin USA after coming out runners-up. It would have been good to offer the boys an incentive like $20 000 each.Hoe can a Tanzanian offer the boys money & fellow country men can’t even offer even 5 pin. Lets be serious if we really want Zambian football to go forward.

  47. I don’t like the donchi kubeba slogan but for now i am with the president..donchi kubeba all the way…. as long as it makes the boys bring that trophy home. Ba zambia iyeee ba zambia chipolopolo……..GUN DOWN THE ELEPHANTS!!!!!!!!

  48. Speaking of donchi kubeba, Mr. Sata said….

“Our boys have worked very hard to reach this stage and we can only wish them luck and victory. If our team reaches the finals, I pledge to fully support and facilitate the entry of the Zambian soccer fans into Libreville.” (LT, 4 Feb)

So, Mr. President what exactly are you doing to facilitate our entry into Libreville? Surely this is not another PF flip-flop……..?

Anyway…. GO ZAMBIA – BRING HOME THE CUP!!!!

  49. LETS GOOOO… ZAMBIA!!!!!!!!!!. We are in the game hunting. If No hunting license, We shall poach the elephant from all directions. The elephant will be gunned down.

  50. # 77 You have point there …. Our team is not alone in this match … we have walked through the shadow of the deadly black stars but we slew them down …. the Giants will perish under our humble and sincere team spirit and togetherness and the bones of our fallen heroes in that land backing us up …. Everything has time and this is our time believe it or NOT. … am proud to be ZAmbian and forever will

  51. Guys, let us not refer to Simataa, Kamanga etc. Football reconciles. It could probably be the near split of FAZ that helped change strategy. The win is for all Zambians; of varipous ethnic, political, racial or professsional orientations. This is not time to flog a dead horse for it will not cry. Viva Zambia!

  52. CHIPOLOPOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe send our boys the another of the ‘famous’ k3 trillion batches also while we are at it, kabili nai bo-oka, believe me it will be money well spent and no one will complain!

  53. if impolopolo yesu can shoot black stars right out of a night sky, what is an awkward large elephant in a place where we have another 11 players who didnt get home 18 years ago!!! have faith people, tulebanaya!

  54. Mr president, we need supporters to be ferried to Gabon to give more support to our boys so as boost their morale. They are just cheering to empty seats evey time they sore. Are we so poor that we can”t afford even 30 supporters?

  55. It is a thrilling to experience the era when Zambia sailed through to win the Africa Cup in modern football. The Chipolopolo Team is a national Team not a department of PF. Hence let’s desist from polluting this national game with dirty political slogans. Since the team is comprised of young men of diverse political inclinations please keep out your silly “Don’t kubeba” slogan from our national game. God bless the CHIPOLOPOLO TEAM.

  56. Chipolopolo all the way, Ivory coast team is of course full of big names but so was Ghana. Ivory coast failed to beat an Egyptian team comprised of home based players twice. We will not be intimidated by a team full of under-archievers. Let them come, we are ready for them…………Ayeeeeeeee……Chipolopolo……………..Ayeeeeeeeeee…….

  57. Please forget politics for a while and make RB the life patron of Chipolopolo. Together with the likes of Tom Mtine he has done a lot for sport in Zambia. What would Lottie Mwale have achieved without RB’s role? I consider him the father of football in Zambia for his love for the game did not come out of being Head of State. He is the original Bola Bola boy.

  58. Chipolopolo for victory. Sata is asking the corporate world to motivate the boys. What about him and the govt? I thought even a small amount from govt can do wonders. Govt can also give them plots or farmland? Sata should reconsider!

  59. Hello Pat,See what blurry vision does for you? I am so sorry for misken your guest blogger for you!Hope you are felling better!

  60. Somebody necessarily lend a hand to make seriously posts I might state. That is the first time I frequented your web page and up to now? I amazed with the analysis you made to make this actual post incredible. Great job!

  61. it was a great moment that we shall always remember that tremendous victory as we always remember the Gabon crash
