Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu says government should ensure that families of the girls that have been impregnated by police officers that had camped in Mongu during the riots are adequately compensated.
Mr. Mwiimbu has told Journalists in Lusaka that government should also ensure that the girls affected are re-admitted into school after giving birth.
The parliamentarian adds that should it turn out that the girls are below the age of 16, the police officers that are responsible should be charged with defilement.
Mr. Mwiimbu who condemned the act by the police officers, said it is regrettable because the girls that have been impregnated have been stripped off of their right to education.
And Gender and Child Development minister Inonge Wina suspects that some of the affected girls could have been forced into having sex without their consent.
Mrs. Wina said government will not sit down and allow the culprits go free once all the information has been made available.
Meanwhile, deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mkhondo Lungu who was home affairs minister at the time has declined to comment on the matter.
Mr. Lungu says the PF government is now in- charge of government and is therefore responsible for the Mongu riots issue.
On Friday, parliament heard that some of the girls at Limulunga High School have been impregnated by some police officers that had been deployed to the area to crash the Mongu riots last year.
