Stolen copper intercepted in Chililabombwe

Police officers in Chililambombwe have intercepted a truck laden with 20 tonnes of copper ore suspected to have been stolen from Konkola Copper mines (KCM) and three men including the driver of the truck have since been apprehended to help with investigations.

The truck, Foden registration number ACK 7262 was intercepted last Friday in the evening after tip from the public.

Copperbelt police chief Mary Tembo confirmed the incident in an interview yesterday in Kitwe that the police had instituted investigations to ascertain the value and owners of the consignment.

“We have impounded a truck load of copper ore and three men have been picked to help us with investigations,” Ms Tembo said.

In a similar development, a truck load of copper ore was abandoned in Chingola near KCM.The light Canter truck registration number ACK4623 was found around 20:15 hours with 45 bags each weighing 50 kilogramme.

The truck was found on Friday last week.

Meanwhile two men armed with an AK 47 grabbed a Spacio Toyota Corolla registration number ACP8197 from Felix Domingo in Chingola around 19:30 hours on Monday.

No arrests have been made.

  1. No. 2, the Spacio was stolen in Chingola and the picture is appropriate! How do you know if it was grabbed on the road in the picture? Shaa! Anyway, stealing copper has been serious ‘business’ on the copperbelt! Now ZP has been shaken and they are even arresting jerobos. However, ZP should ensure cops persuing jerabos have bulletproof vests as the later are armed and dangerous!

  2. The Minister of Home Affairs must do more and ensure that more police officers are deployed on the Copperbelt to curbe this vice which has increased.
