President Michael Sata this morning commissioned the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. President Sata thanked the Chinese government for putting up an altra-modern stadium in Ndola.

The head of state was speaking this morning when he officially commissioned the ultra modern stadium in Ndola upon his arrival from Angola.

The head of state has since called urged the youth and sports minister Chishimba Kabwili to ensure that the facility operates as a viable commercial property.

The President noted that the Mwanawasa stadium is like a consolation to the people of Ndola for the Dag Hammarskjold stadium that was demolished.

President Sata however said government will ensure that the demolished stadium is re-build adding that government is also considering setting up a diplomatic school at the crush site were the UN secretary general died.

He adds that the diplomatic school would be named in honor of the late Dag Hammarskjold.

President Sata has also hinted that government has plans of setting up similar facilities in all the 10 provincial centres to promote sport countrywide.

And in a rare expression of gratitude, President Sata knelt down as he thanked Copperbelt residents for voting for him and ushering the Patriotic Front into government.

President Sata has noted that without their massive support, the PF would have remained in the opposition. He has pledged to deliver on his campaign promises saying some have already been achieved such as lower taxes.

President Sata says people should not feel ashamed because their support for the PF was not in vain.

And Former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa said that she is humbled for what President Michael Sata has done. She said that it is gratifying to note that President Sata shared the same principles as her late Husband.

Mrs Mwanawasa said that President Mwanawasa aspired to put the interests of the Zambians first, a principle which she said President Sata is committed to as well.

She said that the occasion brings back touching memories but thanked President Sata for naming the stadium after her late husband.

  1. Involve local clubs to get involved in such ventures as it will help them to understand the commercial aspect of running sports.

  2. Thanks, but how best can this stadium now contribute to zambia economic growth and improve employment levels? maintain it and good sales on tickets for international matches and local games will help i bet.

  3. This is SATA of yours speaking about ten stadiums in Zambia. If you remember, South-africa almost failed to hold the world cup in 2010 because they could not manage to build 11 stadiums planned for but managed 10 stadiums. Sata is a joker old man without no thinking when talking. Where will the money come from when he is failing to rebuild New Lusaka stadium and New Independence stadium. Zambians must not be fooled by Mr SATA all the time. It is high time we let him know our feelings when he starts vomiting any how. If he does build 10 Stadiums in all his 10 provinces, then he will be the only president the whole of africa to manage that cause. I am not saying he can’t do, but looking back with his don’t kubeba slogan, it has became clear from any zambians that he likes jokes..!

    • Why so negative and pessimistic? Not everyone feels the way you do. A lot others appreciate this news and give kudos and respect. Speak for yourself only.

    • on this one lets be objective even if we believe in tribalism! Lets support sata, after all, everything starts as dreams.

    • we cant support ifya cabe cabe, were can sata get money to build 10 stadium?is he normal or not?he keep on promising lozi problem not yet finish again stadiums.

    • @KIZITO
Well said! This chimudala is a pipe-dreamer.  He smokes too much matokwani.  Zambia is broke and cannot even pay farmers for last season’s maize.  The Kwacha is on free fall.  Anyway, the kaponyas on the Copperbelt will believe anything; they are drowning in desperation.  This is the first time after 9 months that Sata has bothered to go and thank them.  No wonder he knelt down to apologise for his 90-day donchi-kubeba lies.

    • Guys, where did Mwanawasa get the money to build the Ndola Stadium named after him? some of you people MMD yali mwingila sana. Please note that this time the mines are now paying loyaties which was not the case in the recent past. Sata will get money from where Mwanawasa got the money. Do not just hate people because they are not from your tribe. Sata akabula na shilya mwashika ache kulile mo nayuze stadium. nu kuzunguka muzunguke.

  4. lets  hope  they  are  wattering  the  pitch  in  preparation  fo Zambia vs Ghana! coz last time i checked the  pit  had  dry  grass

    • You must checked it when the grass had just been planted. This thing has a modern and serious watering system. The grass drying will be a human error. The Chinese are insisting on government to constitute a technical team that they shall train for at least two years on running the massive investment.

  5. MMD , china project …. wish sata builds 10 hospitals/major schools instead …..sport is a luxury , u can’t play on any empty stomach or your sick.

  6. how about naming those wings with names of soccer legends in the history of zambia, rather than calling south west, and so on

  7. @number 6 dont even call yoself copper bullet, sports is not a waste of time.all works without play makes john a dull boy,am sure you dont do any sports thats y u sound dull.

  8. Ba Sata,

Levy Mwanawasa at least has a legacy – the stadium named after him – in his home town of Ndola. You are even planning to construct an ultra – modern diplomatic school in in Ndola, but what legacy are you going to leave for your hometown – Kitwe? Are you going to be like Chiluba who left not eve a single structure to remember him by?

    • FTJ’s legacy is clear for all to see. he turned this country into what it is today. obviously he stupidly tarnished by stealing. levy by far is no comparision to FTJ

  9. #4 KIZITO – Your kind of thinking is what has perpetuated backwardness in our country by robbing us of our self-belief. Do you know that Zambia had television long before South Africa? If we had continued improving on what we had we’d not be paying them to watch DSTV today! Why do you think Zambia should stop aspiring for what SA failed to do? We are rich in human capital and can build these stadia if only we plan and prioritise our needs. Of course schools, hospitals, housing, training institutes and roads take higher priority, but still none of the areas of human endeavour (KK’s language) should suffer. More sport means active brains and minds, healthier people, less crime, lesser preoccupation with habits that lead to HIV infections and deaths, and therefore more development!

    • Wanu Ngwee – thank you for your positive spirit. Even if PF does not build one stadium in one province, we need to dare to try. I dont know why we Zambians are so negative about ourselves. It is happening even at personal level. When you become rich and the friends you drink with remain behind they accuse you of satanism. God help Zambians to regain their self esteem. Please Dream Big. This Kizito guy really spoiled my day…I am glad Wanu Ngwee you have restored my positive emotions!

  10. #4 you are an *****. stop insulting the president. We shall not tolerate any insult on this blog especially to our lovely president.

  11. Kizito: you are just one UPND frustrated character who will never see anything good in whatever the party in power does or intends to do. You, and your lot, have perpetual animus towards PF.

  12. kizito should visit Europe and see how football drives the people. Even as he writes ,he knows how European football is cherished in zambia above our own clubs. By the way since when did south africa become Zambia’s trendsetter? Lets for once as zambians aim high rather than allways being pessimistic. Kaunda aimed for an egg a day and see how much he did for zambia. Have faith Kizito.

  13. Kizito you are a foolish person.Learn to appreciate what sata and his government is doing. You sound like a very bitter and frastrated under five sopporter. If you dont like sata go to lske kariba and drown yourself!

  14. My worry has always been maintenance. We do build modern structures from time to time in Zambia, but in no time forget that they need to be looked after and natured. Soon we have dilapidated old shells of once magnificent show cases. This stadium looks modern but ordinary. It shouldn’t really take much to maintain.

  15. Please stop this nonsense. Govt should not use public money to build the 10 rubbish structures that this man is talking about. Zambia needs hospitals, schools and roads. Of what use are the stadiums to people in chama, lukulu, isoka, chavuma? Ma rubbish.

    • Where did people get this notion that Zambia does not have money to build 10 stadiums? Zambia has money the question is the one of priority setting. Look at the good side of sport in terms of job creation, talent development, tourism etc. Can you envision a situation where Zambia has 10 stadia and they host world cup, africa cup, olympic games plus local sports events, traditional ceremonies etc. So be positive my fellow Zambians!! Life is ours.

  16. Advertising can bring the much needed revenue for maintenance in addition to ticket sales. I cannot see any adverts in the stadium yet but I hope big corporations will come forward and advertise there. Indeed the stadium should be run as a commercial entity which means the government set up a company that should run it and all matches and activities taking place in the stadium should be paid for and not be for free.

  17. That was good comedy by ukwa to kneel down, and foolish people think he meant it.Women forget very easily, maureen is a widow today because Sata had prophesised for her husbands death, anyway Sata cant mind getting you closer,he has already seen what you lack.

  18. 2-0
Good, actually my first boyfriend was from Sudan.
I knew from the start that Zambia could not beat Sudan later qualify to the 2014 world cup!
    Thanks

  19. Oh wait a minute now Mushota,we will catch Sudan on th return game.
I wage that the return game will be hard.
    he,he,he,he……

  20. Better to build 10 well equipped hospitals in the provinces. The 10 stadia idea should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. It is utter nonsense when you consider the state of our so called universities.

  21. SATA LIKES PROMISES HE CAN’T EVEN FULFIL
THIS OLD MADALA IS TOO MUCH OF A JOKER
PA FWAKA AND YOUR UKWA WE DEAL WITH YOU IN 2016
50% + 1 VOTE IBWELA, WE WILL DEAL WITH YOU AASE!

  22.  It is 2-0. Shameless players celebrated AFCOn glory for too long. Good lesson, never underestimate your opponent!

  23. But South Africa had a deadline. Do we have one ba Kizito? The ten stadia can be built in the next 70 years. Lusaka is getting one and then Livingstone. What have you done for Zambia yourself?

  24. He can only commission what others have built, Him he has just managed to create (more accurately given instructions to ) more districts.

  25. this result is good as you don’t just expect to just come in without friendlies what friendly has your Kalu organised? NOTHING..only when when we wake up and put proactive enterprising savvy managers in FAZ will we move forward!!
    VERY GOOD WAKE UP CALL!!

  26. Rebuilding Dag stadium is a good idea. But the space seems to have been taken up by the Tanzanian chap who has built a petro station around the site area.

  27. @31, MMD cadre:

Talk about lack of “a sanse of continuity”!!! So, you want LPM raised from the dead so he can commission a stadium?

Really, how petty can you get!?

  28. The point KIZITO is putting across is correct especially when you look at the promises which we made by the same man before election to be done within 90 days three quarters of them if not zero have not been done. Now the question is what formula will be used to put more money in people’s pockets, build stadiums, build roads, build infrastructure for all these new districts created etc.

  29. The point here is the president has made more than enough promises it’s highly time we start seeing these promises being actualized. In my case I am interested in seeing development to the mother Zambia and Barotseland give to the Owners.

  30. Let him govern by the Ten Commandments .They shall not cheat .let him give us more money in our pockets, Development and Barotseland Agreement 1964 without cheating. Please I would like to see how the Ten Commandments’ will be applied towards Barotseland agreement of 1964 and how he will apply the windfall tax.
    AMEN

  31. Lusaka is the largest city in Zambia; Kitwe the second largest city; Ndola, the third; and Livingstone a distant fourth. Kitwe gave Sata and the PF the largest number of votes on the Copperbelt, but what do we get? Nothing in terms of infrastructure development! Lusaka already has two stadiums under construction and Ndola is even getting another stadium and the largest city on the Copperbelt is getting nothing! Shouldn’t investment surely be linked to population size in this country? Why do successive governments sideline Kitwe when it comes to any large scale infrastructural developments? Don’t they realize that with its large population, Kitwe is also likely to have a problem of very high level of unemployment which needs a solution through large scale infrastructure development?

  32. And Former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa said that she is humbled for what President Michael Sata has done. She said that it is gratifying to note that President Sata shared the same principles as her late Husband.

  33. If you don’t want the law to select you to visit the Task Force, say a few nice words to the boss, like equatting Levy to Michael. Who knows, you may wake up to find yourself as High Commissioner to a good country where your children can continue their education for free, or rather on tax payers.

  34. #KIZITO

  35. People you need not worry about the number 10, this is another classic example of 90days promise. HE MCS he should stick to written speaches pls. Even if this country was to have 10 such great structures what would be the value compared to the great need to expand our road network around the country, improving marketing strategies for agricuture products, improving education system and health. This man is a dreamer at the cost of real national development.

  36. A person essentially assist to make critically articles I’d state. This is the very first time I frequented your website page and so far? I surprised with the research you made to make this particular submit extraordinary. Great job!
