Community Development, Mother and Child Health Deputy Minister Jean Kapata (l) arrives at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka with Florence Mampa who has been evacuated to University Teaching Hospital for medical attention

A 24-year-old Samfya woman Florence Mampa who has enlarged breasts is scheduled to undergo plastic surgery this week at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

UTH managing director Luckson Kasonka said a scan conducted on Florence last week revealed that the breasts are not cancerous.

Dr Kasonka said in an interview yesterday that doctors are still awaiting a few details from the scan before conducting the surgery.

He said Florence, whose condition he described as good, will undergo a cosmetic surgery during the course of this week.

“We did a scan last week and we are still waiting for one or two details before we can conduct a plastic surgery.

Otherwise, the woman is doing fine and almost everything is in place for the surgery,” he said.

Recently, Government evacuated Florence from Samfya to Lusaka for a series of tests at UTH.

Deputy Minister of Community Development, Mother and Child Health Jean Kapata flew to Samfya to ensure that Florence was evacuated as quickly as possible.

Ms Kapata told journalists upon arrival from Samfya at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport that a team of medical experts had already been constituted to attend to the patient.

  1. ”breasts are not cancerous” i hope this time this a correct observation we dont want to be told at a later stage after surgery that it is cancerous and the lungs are affected. Please doctors take your time to diagonise this i know you have the skills to make zambia proud may God give the medical team wisdom to successfully treat our sister from samfya

  2. UTH should be very careful about being driven by “political headline grabbing” procedures. Patient privacy needs to be respected. This entails that the patient, after full informed consent, agrees to the treating institution revealing information about the patient, more so publically & on the internet!!. Politicians will get away with it, they are not bound by patient confidentiality clauses, unlike medical authorities!!

    • I think for the patients to have their medical problems aired on TV means they consent to have their stories publicized. The ministry of social welfare is only coming in to support those family who are in need and that’s one thing there are there for. So I feel UTH is in line the only thing they need to do is to get the facts down before they issue statements of non cancerous and stuff.

  3. I dont see anything wrong with that young woman having those abnormal type of boobs. Thats a sign of fertility.May be there is need to look into the family history. Soon we will hear other women with flat chests seeking breast implants to enhence their looks. I hope this time UTH experts will get it right. In the past the two patients who were evacuated to UTH have ended up dying and as a spectator I get concerned. who knows who will be next victim?

  4. Kasonka before you issue statements get your facts correct..you said RObiana case was not cancerous and a few weeks later it was and he has died…

  5. Ohh no. Not another innocent soul being put under the operating table without UTH thoroughly studying the medical condition of the patient. Hope these doctors have done their home work this time around. Our prayers are with you Florence Mampa. God bless!

  6. I do hope the Doctors are right this time round. However, govt should be commended on this. In past regimes only the rich were evacuated for specialist treatment. I wish this lady well.

  7. PLEASE ASSIST THE LADY TO BE FLOWN TO NIGERIA KULI TB JOSHUA NAPAPATA.ROBIANA SHOULD HAVE NOT DIED IF WE HAVE FLOWN HIM TO TB JOSHUA.LET US NOT PRETEND PEOPLE,WE HAVE A GIFT FROM WHERE MOST OF SUCH AILMENTS WHICH DOCTORS PRETEND TO KNOW,CAN BE CURED.

  8. The medical attention is good for the woman. Infact once operation is done they can put breast inplants and the woman will look normal again. What perplexes me is the fact the the whole of the Deputy Minister of Community Development, Mother and Child Health Jean Kapata had to fly to Samfya to ensure that Florence was evacuated as quickly as possible! That is surprising and buffling! That is spending money unwisely. The woman could have travelled even by bus because she seems able to cope and capable to walk. A mere officer from the Ministry of Health could have accompanied her to Lusaka. Be cost conscious and spare there money for more help to other sick people. In the end Kapata made allowances for travelling there and spent too much on the plane she used. No sense of productivity at all

  9. Ba Mumbwe, let Dr kasonka do his job professionally. Robian boy had cancer of the lungs and not that extended buttock or tumor. It is good that the boy survived the anaesthetic drugs because he would have died during the operation. The chap died of lung cancer despite a successful operation.

  10. @3 boxale. Good observation. Unfortunately my dear Zambia is full of primitive people who do not know what patient privacy is. Just look at the stu.pid comments on this thread justifying the public parading of this poor woman. You would think the govt and UTh are doing her a favour. And yet she has the right to be treated. There is just something wrong with Zambians. Honestly someone should put an end to this!

  11. Floyd Chitalu @ 10 I concur with you. there was no need for the entire minister to go there. Are we saying that she could not instruct the local personnel there to the evacuation as soon as possible unless she was physically available herself. Does it mean that for future cases, the minister will have to travel all around collecting patients? Furthermore i wonder why it always has to take politicians before people are evacuated. Cant the local medical personnel make recommendations for people to seek specialised medical attention at major hospitals? Is ther something i am missing here?

  12. may God blesss you sister and also bless the docters, and one thing if you notes that you cannot manage to do it and send her to the expert maybe in over seas.

  13. @3 boxale and @12 rod I am encouraging my daughter to study law and in her speciality to focus on such issues

  14. #5 wanjipaya! you ve just cracked my ribs, but be serious, are you sure you cannot see anything wrong? fertlity wakwisa?

  15. you guys who are speaking against the good will of the minister are not facing reality. Where were the medical officer when the breast were enlarging to this extent? Didnt they saw a need to refere her to UTH?? They just damped her like that with no care at all. But the good will of the Minister has worked, cant you give credit where it is due hee?? Please no rant for the sake of ranting.

  16. Iam ailing to tourch and squeeze those big boobs before putting the John where it belongs, iam sure the doctor who did the scan was ticlking underneath

  17. Am i missing something people? You mean Zambia has no referral policy?Patients are diagnosed and reffered by politicians.Zambian doctors where are you?Your collegues in South Africa are making history in doing skin grafts on a young girl while you in Zambia are busy dancing to the kalindula tune of the politicians.stand your ground as proffessionals. You are embarassing yourselves.

  18. I used to be suggested this website by my cousin. I am now not positive whether this publish is written by him as nobody else recognize such specified approximately my trouble. You’re amazing! Thank you!
