President Michael Sata arriving in Zambia on Thursday morning

President Michael Sata

The Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) has released a press diary for Thursday with the item of President Michael Sata arriving at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 06:00 hrs in the morning. There has been no government official statement as to when the president left the country or where he had gone or for what duties.

This is the second time the preisent has left the country without the public being officially informed.

In March, President Sata left for India without any official anouncement made to the public, prompting a number of online media to speculate that he had gone for treatment. This assertion was refuted by Vice President Guy Scott who described as nonsense speculation in some sections of online media that President Michael Sata trip to India was on medical grounds.

Dr Scott was responding to a question, at the time, by Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Moses Chishimba during the vice president’s question time who wanted to find out the circumstances under which the President left for India in order to dispel speculation.

Many people, including the now MMD President Nevers Mumba, when he was a presidential aspirant for the party, questioned the secrecy surrounding president Michael Sata’s to India. Dr. Mumba wondered why the Zambian government was seemingly secretive on the head of state’s trip to Asia.

Dr Mumba stated that it was important that the movements of the president were kept as open as possible to avoid speculation. Accoording to Dr Mumba , protocol demanded that the people of Zambia who elected the president into office should be told where the president is going days before his travel because the president uses tax payers money for all his expenses and so his movements were supposed to made public.

This trip is likely to fuel a similar debate as there was no official anouncement of the president’s trip abroad.

  1. Where will the president be coming from? The level of journalism in Zambia leaves much to be desired. Au Zambian journalist properly trained? Journalists you are not doing enough, u dont give the nation complete info in your reporting. We expect you to dig deeper and give us full information on what is happening in the country. IT is your duty to dig out that infor,

  2. Where was he and when did he leave the country , was he out on national duties or on holiday. This man is more of a vas coda gamma than RB.

  3. We are only told when he is coming back and not when is going out. Why?We had relied too much on the Post as an informer but today it is just like the Times or Daily mail.We are stuck with no source of information about many negative things happening in our country. Can Chanda Chiimbwi please bring back his paper.

  4. Could this data relate to revelations in Nigeria that an elderly president would seek treatment early and save his life? I read something on Tumfweko, little did i know that Cobra had alredy gone to seek medical treatment for his uncontrolled bladder problem. Just stating what others have said before. I still like the man though..

  5. I thought he was in UK visiting those nurses from nursing homes? Now there is the India thing, so the hell is he coming from. And whom did he leave the Presidency to? Anyway, Zambia is used to be a country without president. And I don’t care about you king.

  6. This man makes me either miss the Rupia Banda presidency or wish we had a Swiss style collective presidency where there’s not one top dog in charge. The way Sata runs zambia leaves much to be desired.

  7. Zambians we are just a docile lot thinking with our hearts than God given brains in our heads! A president can not just go AWOL then come back and everything is alright! I just want to imagine what would have been if the same MCS was still in opposition and The Post was still the newspaper that it used to be. Now the only hope lies in sole Nevers Mumba to speak out demanding that the president explains to the nation his disappearance for any truth to come out! However the MMD leader must expect all sorts of vile language targeted at him by those who would like to bury their heads in sand in the face of glaring wrongs committed by the highest office! No head of state makes a “private visit” without affecting national coffers! Aawe mwe cacilamo nomba pa Zed being taken for granted!

  8. guys ,get used to his secrecy travels,he is saving tax payers money.if he let us know his movements that means all security measures have to be put in place ie OP advance team, presidential entourage team, and the president security team, thats a lot of money.the man is doing a recommendable of secret travellers if u look at it from savings point of view.

  9. This Sata guy is Rubbish of a president. Why is he spending Taxpayers money without telling them where and for what he is spending it on. For all we know he could be in Malawi with Judge Chikopo and Joyce Banda…. Ba PF stop protecting ichipuba chenu…. When you are a president, you are a public figure and you are fair game for criticism.

  10. Vasco da Sata.

He was condemning RB for his many travels only to start doing the same. In the time he has been in office, he has been to Botswana, SA, UK (twice), India (twice), Brazil and Ethiopia (twice).

  11. Don’t complain!! He is Using Katele kalumba’s “Flying computer!!” So he is not costing the taxpayer anything!!!!

  12. but you people whats sinister for him to go out? he diserves some pint of privacy…on official visits or holidays we can be informed but on his personal issues, mwebantu!!!

    • Not when he’s using tax payer’s money u shallow chap! If he wants to do private visits he shud spend from his own pocket.

    • How do you know he did not spend his money? He is very is wealthy  enough to afford a private trip to UK MWE BANTU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. last yr, benjamin netanyahu left israel for russia in secrecy, no opposition leader demanded to know what was goin like way neverlands (nevers mumba) wants.problem with our opposition in zambia they are chimbwi no strategy (cns) ; to them getting into state house means copying what sata was doing… Being vocal.but sata had a strategy which paid off not just yapping yapping even when it doesnt make sense.

  14. where is charles kakoma? Has he run away like that richard kapita. These days upnd statements are issued by that under 2 boy mweetwa and under 5 HH (CNS) has never clarified this position.

  15. UKWA lol, hope they have mended the leaking balls. This man’s health is failing him, why can’t he opt for a quieter and more peaceful life for the few remaining days of his life?? May sound harsh but its the truth, his end is but near.

  16. Even more important Presidos like Barrack announce where they are going all the time. But not our suntwe. BANE EVERYONE GETS SICK ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. WHAT IS WRONG WITH JUST SAYING “COUNTRY MEN, NAYA FIRST BANPOPOSHEKO.”

  17. The man went on a private trip and used his own money. No tax payers money involved so what! If you cant affort to fly Lusaka Ndola thats your poverty. Be mature and stop the unnecessary insults.

  18. “Chaona munzako chapita, koma m’mawa chili paiwe”. He made fun of others before and he is in the same place today. Being crude and foul – mouthed gets you nowhere. We are all beings of flesh, therefore not immune of ailments till the day that our number is up! (Do not laugh at a cripple before you are dead!).

  19. It is highly irresponsible for a President to go AWOL. It is also not truthful or sincere for some to claim he used his own money. Sata’s supporters are so desperate that they are now resorting to obvious lies. This debacle was wrong and inexcusable.

  20. It is true that the President should not hide his movements and purpose. We as citizens of Zambian need to know. Why? We are his employer. The moment he was elected he signed a contract with the Zambian people and is therefore accountable to the Zambians. All we need is an element of truth on the part of government, period

  21. Why do people here(Zambians) want to write/speak like they know better than everybody else. Just speak/write for yourself and what you yourself know and bloody stop looking down on other peoples comments *fyola*

  22. There is nothing private about any human being once they become National president. They became a public figure(Amatako ya public). Get that!

  23. @ planzo – it is naive to think that if the president travels suddenly and secretly then there is no cost involve for security. the president is still accorded the same number of susu’s whether the trip is secret or not

  24. Why do want to know where Ukwa went? Are you telling me that “Dont kubeba” means tell them? Did you elect him on the basis of telling the truth?
