First Republican president DR Kenneth Kaunda has called for increased efforts by all Zambians in ensuring that the HIV/AIDS pandemic is conquered.

In a statement released to the media by First Secretary (Press) Embassy of the Republic of Zambia Washington DC, Patricia Littiya, Dr Kaunda said that Zambia has done a lot in the fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemic adding that more needs to be done.

Dr Kaunda arrived in Washington DC today to attend the 19th International Conference under the theme ‘TURNING THE TIDE TOGETHER’. He is attending the conference under the auspices of the Champions for an HIV free generation.

The conference is expected to attract over 25,000 delegates including scientist, government leaders, HIV activist and people living with HIV/aids from across the globe.

The Zambian delegation will be led by Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Community Development, maternal and child health Hon. Jean Kapata, Health Permanent Secretary Dr Peter Mwaba, National Aids Council Chairperson Bishop Joshua Banda, Network of Zambian People Living with HIV, Zambia Network for ARV users, HIV activists, NGO’s The Churches Health Association of Zambia and medical professionals from various institutions.

DR Kaunda said he was happy to be part of the struggle and called the conference of hope.

The first President was met on arrival by the Charge d’Affairs at the Zambian Mission in Washington Mr. Ben Kangwa.

Very humbling to see this man in good health. I dont think he will ever comment on the barosteland issue. He got Rid of it in his own mind with One Zambia one Nation as an easier solution. Whilst it worked in his time with his hold on the one party state it’s a little different now and this needs and very pragmatic and intelligent head of state to deal with this issue in this day and age of liberalised media and awareness.

There is nothing more needed to keep Zambia at bay from peace than civil strife than some old selfish, helpless dinashour’s in having a few good last years an the expense of the same peace they enjoyed for 6 to 7 decades and now they are just broke or cant cope with the cuurent economic trends. I pray our fellow country lozi men can see what our fores enjoyed
