MMD president Nevers Mumba now says it is up to Zambians to get concerned about President Michael Sata’s appointment of opposition Members of Parliament to his government.
Dr Mumba who over the weekend stormed State house to seek an audience with President Sata over the appointment of MMD MPs to ministerial positions says it is not for him or his party to be concerned about the continued appointment of opposition members of parliament by President Michael Sata into his government but the Zambian people.
Dr. Mumba says although the party can be proud that it is being called back into government through its members of parliament, it is at a great cost to the country’s democracy.
President Michael Sata yesterday added two more MMD MPs to his government when swore-in Solwezi East MP Richard Taima and his Mkaika counterpart David Phiri as deputy ministers.
This is despite calls by the MMD leadership for its members of parliament serving in the PF government to resign or risk being expelled from the party.
Speaking to QFM News, Dr. Mumba says there is nothing wrong with President Michael Sata negotiating with the former ruling party over the MPs’ appointments, which he says was the case when he became vice president under late president Levy Mwanawasa.
Dr. Mumba reiterated that the National Executive Committee which was due to meet today will decide the fate of the MMD MPs who have defied the directive to relinquish their government positions.

The problem here is not Sata, coz as President he is using his priviledges to finish MMD, i.e. appointing its members to be deputy ministers and eventually imposing a divide and rule strategy!! For your own information he is enjoying this game,lol.
Thus, the root problem here is the MP’s who are accepting the appointments, coz they also have a right to turn them down. Therefore, Mumba should stop wasting time with cobra who is enjoying his rights, however, a true test on Mumba as a leader is to make his members understand that them accepting those appointments does not serve the party and if they don’t heed his logic, let him also use his priviledge of chucking them out, forget about by-elections because Sata himself enjoys them..

The continued appointment of MMD MPs to ministerial positions is a clear testimony that PF has no quality MPs so Sata has to turn to the quality but unprincipled and/or corrupt MMD legislators.
H.E MCS is a political tacticactician and strategist at the same time.He is using the very constitution( to his advantage) the MMD have cherished for many years they have been in power. Things change and you just have to conform. If it was MMD they would have been all yessssssssss in the rank and file of the party.The issue is it is the battle of attrition until the the other MMD becomes feable and rendered extinct.Dont mind UPND it is very easy to deal with them than MMD with nation wide following for now.MMD is still a threat and he is dealing with the immediate threat by employing appropriate SWOT analysis.If anything UPND has turned down some offer just when Cobra extended the olive branch. The problem is our constitution. It is wrong to give a single human being so much power. This was created by Chiluba because he wanted to be King Fred. Solve this issue in the next constitution. Either you appoint from outside parliament like USA or allow for a Coalition Government so that Parties can negotiate. Dr Mumba will become a major player in Zambian politics if you guys continue paying attention on him. This is because Zambian Politics in general will always welcome people who are not fearful and are determined to make it. The best advise I can give to you as the government in power is;
Never truly ignore anything your opponent says. Get what he is saying and use that for the benefit of government. You might decide not to reply if you are convinced that MMD and UPND arguments has had no impact or has helped you with the uncommitted middle. But if you do that, you run the risk of overestimating what people know about Dr Mumba and HH. Most of the time, you should at a minimum respond with the truth about whatever fact claims are made in the opposition argument by MMD and UPND.
Never overestimate the sophistication of the voters and what they say concerning Dr Mumba and HH, “Do not fail to answer questions they have.” Keeping in mind that new generations of voters are coming in now who will change the direction of the Nation based on performance and not tribal grounds. Take note that Elias Chipimo is also on the rise, not forgetting the major player UPND.
Organizers of PF in this sense Winter Kabimba should work on organizing the party and supporters by not replying to opponents who made outlandish charges about PF politics. “The crazier they looked, the saner you will seem as PF.” Unless you are convinced that an opposition argument has cost you uncommitted votes that can only be regained by changing the proposed policy, you should usually try to reply before you agree to modify. Although modifications may take away an opposition argument, they almost never reduce the fervor of the opposition itself. You should modify your proposal only if uncommitted PF members are truly convinced that the opposition has a point, or if they are so worried about the effect of the argument on constituents that you need to neutralize it.
Sad state of affairs indeed; this is Zambian opposition politicians for you; example Mumba here, when asked to debate or make submissions on the draft constitution, they ignore you and would rather talk about utter drivel, then when the president flexes his powers they start to mourn and squeal like toddlers in need of a nappy change.
Comrade sata, please let’s not dramatise running of government. I’m saying this from the core of my heart been a supporter of PF. As much as we want to weaken the oposition, let’s bear in mind that appointment of opposition mps into government comes at a cost particularly when fresh elections are called for. My friend, checks and balances are used for the three wings of government to check and balance the operations of each other. Politicians, (like MPs) belong to the Legislature, as much as they can check themselves, their checking remains invalid because it will be biased. The issue here is the opposition is being incoporated into the executive branch and so the legislature will be impared where checking the Executive is concerned. There is everything right about implementing government policies and all opposition parties should do so. A policy is made through the act of parliament for which the opposoition is part. How can the opposition be required to check something they helped put in place? Please learn the basic function of government before sharing your views.
PF must crack up from within; what do the eligible members of PF think when they are passed over for an opposition MP for deputy ministirial positions? PF is a house made of clay which will come apart at the next election – if not before. The thieves and tribalist have taken the electorate for granted for too long. Their time in government is short lived.
Like I have said before all those advocating for a non-Bemba President will in fact get the opposite. Once you alienate the Bembas who are very much in the majority you will force them to vote for themselves and they wont vote for anyone else. If you want to win an election in Z you have to win over the Bembas.

Even Barrack Obama had appointed a Republican Governor in Jon Huntsman to be US Ambassador to China. I do not think the appointments are wrong. The trend of working for the sake of service to the nation regardless of political views is welcome because it shows that people are putting Country first above personal interest.

If i was Nevers Mumba, my strategy would be to work with the PF govt and negotiate with the president so that some of MMD Mps can be full cabinets ministers. That way MMD Mps would work hard and be visible and prove to the Zambians that MMD is worthy to be voted back in office. After MMD Mps deliver i would then put a quota on how many Mps can assist the PF govt. Such a strategy would put PF in panic mode meanwhile score as MMD. To fight dirty with Sata , you cant win as he is a politcal elephant with plenty of tricks. The MMD MPs appointed as deputy ministers in PF govt are not the best of MPs in the opposition which explains the hiden objective of PF govt. Even in UNPD and Narep Elias Chipimo Jr. or Nawakwi can easily be co-opted in PF govt. However, Mr Sata will never make such a mistake. This is not withstanding the hard working cadres of PF who are sacrificed at the expense of MMD MPs appointment. Zambians are still far from principled in politics and development will be far to be achieved when democratic principles are not understood by old polititians who dash in dictaorial elements of achieving a one party strong trategy.
Number 3, CNP, kindly note that the president can not appoint those MPs from UPND because it is a tribal party which is confined to one region. Besides, its leader HH does not have political experience. He has never been voted as a Councillor, MP and his current position as party president has not been subjected to a popular vote through a convention. UPND lacks experience while MMD has experience. The only good thing UPND is good at is tribalism. Zambians have not time for a tribal part and the President would not waste time on a tribal party.
If it is not up to you to be concerned, then why are you concerned? As a Zambian I dont need you to tell me how to feel. Thou shalt not use the name of the Zambian people, my people, in vain.
