United Party for National Development (UPND) special advisor to the president Douglas Siakalima says the opposition party will not hesitate to expel any of its Members of Parliament who will accept jobs in the Patriotic Front government.
Mr. Siakalima has told Qfm News in an exclusive interview that opposition parliamentarians must appreciate the importance of the opposition in the country’s democratic dispensation.
He says the ongoing trend where Republican President Michael Sata is appointing opposition MPs as deputy ministers is an assault on democracy and should not be allowed to continue.
Mr. Siakalima has charged that the UPND is committed to providing checks and balances on government policies and will not entertain any of its parliamentarians who will align themselves to the PF government.
He has however expressed happiness at the high level of discipline exhibited by the UPND MPs adding that even if President Sata extended his appointments to the UPND, none of its lawmakers will succumb.
The President is entitled by the republican constitution to appointment members of the executive from among Members of Parliament regardless of political affiliation

Within the provisions of the Zambian constitution, the president is entitled to appoint from members of other parties. Technically – UPND are advocating lawlessness. Why not try and change the constitution on the matter first

Opposition opposistion concentrating on trivialities. 2016 is not very far, please tell us how you will deliver Zambians from the misery PF Government has imposed on them. Give us a road map on the deriverables. I remember, sorry to sound like a broken record, during the reign of late Mr. Mazoka (MHSRIEP) UPND provided an alternative budget and we could see the direction UPND wanted to take the country. It is not enough to pronounce your intentions of forming the next GRZ show us a plan and guide us so that we support your cause. We fought agianst a one party state in 1991 and we are not going to allow it to return through the back door just because your tribesman is ruling. If sata wants to appoint opposition members of parliament as ministers then he can do so by negotiating with their respective parties instead of corrupting them in order to weaken the opposition.

Well said #18 Sata and his little minions are trying so hard to weaken the opposition and what Hon Siakalima has said is the truth. Quite alright the President has the right to appoint any MP as a Minister but it does not make sense for him to be appointing opposition MP’s en masse especially from only one party the MMD which is not even in coalition with the ruling PF.
The MMD party is the biggest opposition party and the plot by PF is to absorb it into their party so that they only have weak opposition parties like UPND,FDD which clearly have a lot to do in order to become formidable.

You Bemba’s need to understand that Sata does not need to appoint from the opposition in order to Balance the tribes. He can still appoint Lozi’s, Tonga’s and Tumbuka’s who are not MP’s. There are hundreds of qualified men and women who are NOT MP’s who can serve in the PF government. What is so hard to understand about that??? Apathy, apathy, apathy all the time we will not do this or that. First it was HH saying I would have not accepted Sata’s invitation to Brazil. Now we know who gave the special advice. Today the advisor says we will not accept appointments. It is only a man who does not trust his wife who forbids her to visit relatives and friends. It is because the UPND leadership does not trust their own MPs that they forbid them to work with the government. If UPND leaders trusted and respected their MPs, they would not have insulted their loyalty and intergrity in this manner. What is the point of calling someone “honourable” if you cannot even trust their worth?
