Share

Three children of the same family aged between two and fives have been burnt to ashes after the grass thatched house they were sleeping in caught fire.

Both Northern Province Police Commissioner Mary Chikwanda and Luwingu district Police station Officer in Charge Sampa Mwelwa confirmed the development to ZANIS in Luwingu.

Ms Chikwanda said the three children died in an inferno on Friday night last week after a car battery exploded causing a huge fire which also damaged property worth millions of kwacha.

She named the three children as Duglous Mpundu 2, Lewis Mpundu 3 and Francis Mpundu aged 5 all of Chisasala village in Chief Chabula’s area.

She said the incident happened when parents went into the neighbourhood leaving a candle that was placed on a motor vehicle battery. The battery then exploded into an inferno burning the entire grass thatched house.

Ms Chikwanda said the three children were burnt to ashes after the community failed to put out the fire.

The remains of the deceased children were put in one coffin and have since been buried at the village grave yard.

  1. Sad reading but why so many deaths in our country??
And ba lusaka times your pic does not show a grass thatched house, if you don’t have actual pic learn to use Google you get something close to what you are talking about

  2. Too bad and very very sad story. One would wonder why such a tragedy would happen to young kids who does not know any bad thing. Its a lesson to those people who like leaving burning candles on vehicle battery. There are 1000 ways to die, people let us be extra careful and think beyond in whatever action we are about to take.
