OPPOSITION MMD president Nevers Mumba has said the party should brace itself for hard times as some National Executive Committee (NEC) members could leave the party as a result of the rebranding process.

Dr Mumba has also appealed to Zambians to judge the former ruling party on what it would become after its rebranding process which will give it fresh ideas.

He was speaking to journalists in Lusaka yesterday during a traditional marriage ceremony commonly known as ‘Matebeto’ of his first born son, Shuma-El who would marry Chalansi Malama soon.

He said the rebranding of the MMD which would be announced soon would provide the party with new policies free of misdeeds that people labeled against it during its period in power. He said Zambians should expect a new MMD that had responded to the numerous concerns that people raised against it during its rule.

The MMD leader was confident the rebranded MMD would bounce back into power and that people should judge it after its rebranding process which would give it fresh innovations.

He said the committee tasked to rebrand the party was making headways which would facilitate the announcement of the shadow cabinet with new and valuable policies to drive the party forward.

“When people apologise it is important to know that repentance is personal. Once somebody repents there is nothing more and MMD should be judged of what it becomes after its rebrand. I am very confident that the rebranded MMD will bounce back into power.

“Zambians are not interested in repentance but in how MMD will be after its repentance,” Dr Mumba said.

He said the rebranding would offer the party fresh outlook with a cleaner perception free of immense misdeeds that Zambians had labeled against it and that people should judge the performance afterwards.

”The committee is also preparing for the launch of the rebranded MMD party and the anti-corruption committee which I promised that I will announce soon. A shadow cabinet will also be announced,” Dr Mumba said.

He said the recommendations made during recent MMD national retreat exercise would give an impetus of to the rebranding of the party and the recommendations made would positively motivate Zambians.

He said it was not necessary to divulge misdeeds the MMD committed as some were committed during its 20 years in power when the current Head of State was still a senior MMD party official.

“May I appeal to those who want MMD to list their sins to be the first ones to throw the stones because what is important is repentance and this is also what Jesus commanded in the Bible,” he said.

On reports of NEC members contemplating to quit the party on alleged reports of frustrations, Dr Mumba said, it was obvious that the rebranding process had brought new dimensions which could affect others.

  1. It will be nice to have all the bad eggs out of MMD as the party was not founded on corruption. It one think is senior and want to leave to continue commiting corruption and other bad deeds against Zambia, kaufela, swa! We need clean pipo to manage our political parties and not thieves any more. This is also a lesson to PF government whose leaders have vowed that its their time to make money, will catch with you when out of power and the law will be harsh because you campaigned on that and you running the government to the contrary against your promises. MMD rebrand yourself as not all of you are bad guys but a few like former Party Secretary General Serpent Cobra Ukwa Sata CNP.

  2. Why should Nevers politicise a marriage ceremony? This was a family gathering but why use it for a political speech? Besides during amatebeto, there are no speeches, except from the shibukombe (advisor to the groom). It is this type of political immaturity that will cost Nevers the presidency, as it did the vice-presidency, i.e., not knowing what to say when. Could somebody close to Nevers please advise him? He needs advisers that can guide on what to say on different occassions. “There is power of life and death in the tongue.”

  3. Ukufwala kwena ba Dr. Mumba awe mukwai ni nkwimimbi!!! The brother knows his grooming as well, in politics, that will work to his advantage, his public image is not bad!!

  4. Dr Mumba, keep up the good work. My two cent advise to you:

    1. Bring in fresh  ideas by tapping on the massive experience of Zambians in the diaspora.
    2. Establish a policy committee within the MMD which will tap into Zambian intellectuals in Zambia and abroad.
    3. Start a morden MMD by using technology to communicate, Tweeter, Facebook etc.
    4. Start a fund raising campaign in Zambia and abroad.
    5. Be somber in your promises and what you tell the Zambians. Point to past MMD achievements and a track record of democracy.
    6. Accommodate different views.

Yours is for the taking in 2016. The current emperor has no clothes

  5. MMD, u have a steep hill to climb, MUMBA.Your crdentials are not very tarnished BUT, politics is what it is.People are running out of trust, Manifestos are like toilet paper now, but now leadership comes in??DO u think u have it???Go to the people, in townships, compounds, villages, campaign vigouresly and u will make a difference. BUT get RID of all that bad luggage first, hope they leave on their own.U know what i mean.Team up with UPND, HH is GOOD.Young, educated and a TRUSTED face.

  6. Can the MMD’s past be forgiven? Where is UNIP? Could forgiving MMD be the same as forgiving Hitler?

The damage has been done. Too many Zambians lost their livelihoods as well as their lives at the hands of the MMD.

This should serve as a warning to the PF, unless the current crop of leaders only created it for the duration of their life spans to satisfy their ego, rather than to be in it for the long-haul and in the interest of Zambia.

  7. Nevers you sound determined but the people arround you have bad names. Clear them out around you and start with a new team. You can win the support if rebranding includes removing corrupt and unfaithful MMD images. Its an UP HILL battle baba!

  8. I wish you you well Dr Mumba. Its not easy to run a political party when you are not in Govt. The only way to win support as i suggest is to work and support the current Govt.As things stands,PF has an upper hand. The President can campain using TAX payers money.PF Govt.is on course the economy is improving.Look at the exchange rate!

  10. Dr mumba clean the party and stay focused.Use your God given wisdom, listern to the people and reorganize the party. The people of Zambia are still looking for a leader to lead them and to give a better life.

  12. The brains will still be the same. how old are they? it took all thoz years for ones age to think that now they are groomed enough.

can they honestly say this minute now we have switched our atitutdes.. like resetting there brains?

  13. Mumba it is hard to run a party in Opposition. U shalal soon see this. But soldier on. the Pf are messing up the chance to rule by coming up with a family tree. time has already caught up with them. MMD should be focused, they will rule Zambia again.

  14. Strange message to propound on at you son’s pre-marriage ceremony (Matebeto). Dr. Mumba, the institution of marriage is far bigger and much more important than partisan Politics. Please get priorities right. That’s your first born son’s big step, and you are sending wrong signals.

  15. Mumba wants to rebrand but I have not seen him admit the MMD did wrong. He says the wrongs the Zambian people have labelled the MMD. Did the MMD do any wrong or it is the Zambian people labelling them? The one other thing you are forgetting is MMDs money is dirty and buried under ground by dirty people. The moment you chase away these thieves the will hide their money even deeper in the asss and that will be the end. MMD has been in power for a long time and never came up with a plan to raise its own money. PF has survied on their own initiatives. RB went away with the money and if you really want rebrand, expel him from MMD first.

  16. for those talking about UPND, all those Mumba is saying will leave are headed to UPND. I fail to understand the UPND collections. William Banda Liato? Are there not clean people out there?

  17. Re-branding or not MMD will never never never never never never never never bounce back into power.Ba Nevers please stop day dreaming ,UNIP even now in terms of morality is far ahead of you but they have been plumetting since 1991.For MMD it will be worse.Just wait for 2016, if you will manage to have even 10 MPs you will be very lucky. No person in his or her right frame of mind can vote for MMD.If you are so desparete to rule ,perhaps you shuold have considered forming another NCC.

  18. Ok Mr Mumba you have good plans but I just doubt if you can bounce back in power in 2016. You may after may be 20 years when Zamians will have forgoten about your sins as MMD. All the best dear MMD.

  19. Its a herculean task for MMD to convince Zambians that they will do good than the 20 years of plunder and incessant rape of the nation.
If Nevers is elected, he will be the first bemba as republican President
