HOME by Mwape Mumba

An inspirational place that breeds nothing but greatness

The evening stars shame the city bright lights

The songs of nature more melodious serene brain calming

Than the noisy hustle and bustle of city life so drowning

A place were values and culture are upheld and taught

Past triumphs of men are wrote

Not only in our minds but also our hearts preserved with the salt

Of rich grandpa stories… Were we live as one people, segregation brought to naught

Waking in the morning to the sound of the rooster a morning booster

Stretching and yawning, day dawning

The sun rising the sky golden browning

Listening to natures song and animals groaning and growling

The cool of the night rises

The place is still full of surprises

Congregating  around the fire

Knowledge and wisdom pouring out of our elders quenching that desire

“Fulwe tashana lelo muchipapa alitetaike”

“We mwana sunga umukoshi ubulungu tawashupa kusanga”

“Akanwa ekachefya inganda”

“Mwikalapatalala mwine apatalalika”

Are of the few proverbs that pour forth

As I lay my head listening to natures song I start to dream

My heart beating to natures rhythm

As we peacefully continue the life’s stream!!

HOME by Yvonne Sishua

From the cities to the valleys, hills and mountains of a beautiful butterfly state called Zambia,is a place I call home.                             The sky is the limit but back home, the sky is not my limit,I have touched it and its low enough to be my playground.

I have watched at arms length as through Gods strength, the stars tripple into a sea, where the moon drowns, unseen and unwanted for the peace back home is enough to play moon.

It needs not be sky high for we all harbour it in our souls thus each one lights the others way, so why not brag about where I come from, every house built with love by many and it is home to many, ,every color caste and creed, streams rivers and waterfalls clap hands as they flow through lands of unseen magical sources destinied for unchatered regions,      grass, flowers and trees grow without the need to be watered.

I walk by and I hear them whisper to me saying” the almighty takes care of his own”.                              To get there I travel for miles and miles end on, I tire not! For the miles unravel the path to heavenly bliss…oh heavenly bliss is never amiss back home!

My grandmother may be nearing 80yrs of age but she is an absolute 10,way out of your league and her descendants angelic in frame!

Every act is a precious ceremony as is the first time a woman cooks for her man, full of anxiety, longing approval but with love!

Back home I find delight for I dine with the wise…oh how I love the old for they give me gifts of wisdom, unveiling secreets am only priviledged to hear, sayings that go through to my heart, spoken once and never to be repeated, my yearnings for wisdom are filled to the brim!

Back home the sky is so low anyone can reach it,even those without the most noble of intentions, even in a place where the moon is substituted by peace in the night, the might of the wicked reigns,                                             but even though the sea of stars may drown the moon, the stars are kind enough to let it shine eventually.

So back home! Its okay to shine and to let others shine. Its okay to live and to let live.

  1. LT we dont want to read about people’s poems It leads one nowhere by being talented in writting poems, let them concentrate on CIMA, MBA ACCA. Msc and Phd thats what I did

    Thanks

    • Its a hobby ,like playing an instrument, writing songs..etc Mwape has a degree in Dev studies,I am working in a masters in IS ..that doesn’t mean we cant take time off to write poems, write songs it feels good actually…but of course we all different.

    • I feel sorry for you and wander how you managed to get your PhD – was it on black market????

  2. Hi guys, I have enjoyed your poems thouroughly, especially Bemba ones, it demonstrates our rich cultural heritage and one has no roots without cultural background, but a few spelling erros on Bemba proverbs: Mwape Mumba, we say, “Fulwe Tashana, lele mucipapa natetaika” and on the other one, it should be “ubulungu tabwashupa” not tawashupa, sounds Easterner. As for beautiful Angela Mumba, we say “Munya Bowa” its a name of a type of mushroo, also sounds EAsternish when you say Munya “owa” But Big up yourselves!!!!

    • @Mashota… i respect your opinion.. but u making people that have unbelievable talent seem like they are wasting their time by using the gifts God gave them… thats not fair. if u are frustrated cuz u cant express yourself in doing what you love, that is if you are at all talented in any art, that dont mean u can just shoot down peoples dreams as if they don’t matter… u da same people that say we are wasting time but when doors open for us and God blesses us for being exellent in our gifts you want to act like you believed in us all along. i may not make billions writing and reciting my poetry pieces, but poets like me and many others have the power to change perspectives, alter thought processes and ultimately impact lives… Dont look down on people just cuz u dont get what they do

    • Ba Mpingajira zeb this just shows that our educational system dosent need to be GLOBALISED also we need to preserve our culture by teaching our local languages in our schools! Kids from private schools can’t communicate if taken to the village!! So let the elders preserve the culture by imparting the so much need knowledge of our roots!! Unlike Ba Mushota!!!

  3. @ Mushota, I have Msc, MA, FCA (England & Wales), FCMA, HND, Phd. I do not talk about them. We can not all be the same. Let them do poetry as well. Just like we need grave diggers, hospital cleaners, maids, professors, drivers and sex workers.

  4. Mushota, I tottaly disagree with you but not surprised, you dont sound to be proud of your culture at all. While I agree with Kanyengambeta on substance, I still dont think the parallels you draw between literary arts with those other professions like grave diggers, sex workers are really appropriate. I am not sure if you want to compare the work of people like Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka and others to prostitutes. Literature is a fine art and it is highly prestigious and personally, I find the natural sciences narrow, if someone trained as a natural scientist is not careful, their view of the world around them is quite narrow! An Engineers may lack communication skills and social skills, a Doctor just thinks medicine is the only status career, as for accountants, its worse!!!

  5. Mushota, i dont think life should be envolving aroung accademic papers. Its broader than that and i think its high time you started viewing life outside those qualifications. I have noticed that everytime you coment on any subject, you mention those qualifications. I really appreciate your achievements and i admire your intelligence but i think its inappropriate for you to ‘show off’ because not all people might be admiring your papers.

  6. Mayo Yvonne Sishua, Bushe kuti nakusanga kwisa. We mukashana untumineko kalamya tulandeko nobe. Awe ulinacisungu uwa kamamo namenshi. Kalebalika mayo wandi. Epa shili pakuleka!

  7. Poetry is as natural as speaking. Just as we look at television for relaxation and entertainment, reading (poetry, fiction, scientific data, etc…) has it’s benefits as well. We should always strive to broaden our intellect on all subject matter when ever possible. You might be a poet, and don’t know it!
    ;)

  8. But Ba Mushota did you know that literal Arts are more respected than your tuma qualifications?? You have your text books because of people who wrote them know how to put things in an order you’re able to understand… And you need to know that the people who wrote those Poems have degrees and higher qualifications from well respected institutions. So before you blow your horn just check yourself! Arts just mean that people have tapped into their creative side and have chosen to enrich others with their talents and gifts! And for you to read you’ve obviously leaned something!!

  9. Kwena Mushota uli chikopo! so you think poetry is a waste of time? it just shows how ignorant you are. for your own information, a lot of people are earning a living from from published poetry. besides, it shows an incredible creativity that even CIMA cannot give you. you only copy formulas from textbooks but these people who write poetry write about something new, something coming down from their hearts. of course you don’t have a sense of deep reflection that’s why you depend on textbooks…

  10. Excellent issues altogether, you simply gained brand new|a new} reader. What may you suggest in regards to your submit that you simply made some days ago? Any certain?

  11. Attractive section of content. I just stumbled upon your site and in accession capital to claim that I acquire in fact enjoyed account your weblog posts.
