By-election under way as Masumba quits MMD and joins PF

Steven Masumba is lifted by PF cadres after he resigned from the MMD and as local government deputy minister in Lusaka.

MMD Mufumbwe Member of Parliament Steven Masumba has with immediate effect resigned from the former ruling party and joined the ruling Patriotic Front.Mr. Masumba, who has also resigned as Mufumbwe Member of parliament has further relinquished his position as local government deputy minister.

Announcing his resignation at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Masumba thanked the people of Mufumbwe for giving him an opportunity to represent them in the National Assembly.He said his decision to quit the MMD is not based on the Lusaka High Court’s decision to throw out his injunction to restrain the MMD from expelling him from the party.[pullquote]Mr.Masumba said the disciplinary charges that he was slapped with are all trumped up and only meant to get rid of him[/pullquote]

He said his decision to join the PF was arrived at after serious consultations with the people of Mufumbwe.
and he was further motivated to join the PF due to President Michael Sata’s positive style of governing the country.

Mr. Masumba further attacked MMD leader Nevers Mumba saying the MMD is doomed under Dr. Mumba’s leadership.He said Zambians should hold Dr. Mumba responsible for causing a bye election which could have been avoided.Mr.Masumba said the disciplinary charges that he was slapped with are all trumped up and only meant to get rid of him.He said he is still very popular in Mufumbwe and expressed confidence that he will be adopted by the PF to contest the Mufumbwe seat.

Mr Masumba said assertions that the PF is not popular in North Western Province lack merit adding that people in Mufumbwe have embraced the ruling party on account of its development agenda.

The Lusaka High Court yesterday dismissed an injunction which was granted to Mr. Masumba who was seeking the court relief to stop the MMD from expelling him from the party.

Delivering his ruling in chambers Lusaka High Court Judge Chalwe Mchenga said he could not grant Mr. Masumba the remedy he was seeking because he was aware of the charges he was facing and that he sought the court’s intervention after he had already been expelled.

  17. This has been an MMD seat which they grabbed from the UPND, so it will now be open to all Parties to win. I am not sure how much political support Masumba has in Mufumbwe and the PF will need to make a good assessment before adopting him, otherwise PF could grab this seat!!

  69. Its really bad to insult certain qualifications such as NATECH because of one person. I know so many Engineers who after finshing their degrees for whatever reasons decided to do NATECH, guess what it was total hell. Someone could not even pass 3 subjects from the course.

    Some so called Degrees are not worth it, some Diploma holders in certain professions look more informed than degree holders in other professions. If 600 students sit for their exams and all of them graduate with Degrees after spending the entire 4 to 5 years in night clubs, test their skills in the industry you will be shocked. Lets not insult other professions coz of one person after all most of our parents have these certificates and diplomas and they have managed to give us a descent life.

      I am a qualified Accountant (ACCA) and Mechnical Engineer (UNZA). It is so sad that Zambians we brag so much about academic/professional qualification, but do not even influence society and people’s lives to make a difference.

Lets learn to maximize our resources in our country and forget about these job seekers like this MP in question.
