Kabwata Member of Parliament Given Lubinda has implored the church to distance itself from engaging in active politics.

Mr Lubinda, who is also Foreign Affairs Minister, said the church should instead continue its Christian duty of preaching the word of God and unifying the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Lubinda says the PF government is grateful to the people of Chilenje township in Lusaka for acknowledging and appreciating President Michael Sata’s noble leadership style.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) government wants to continue working with all Zambians regardless of the political inclination that one embraces.

Mr. Lubinda stated that government is aware of a number of challenges faced by residents of Chilenje and that it is working towards addressing them.

SMr Lubinda was speaking after a thanksgiving Sunday service ceremony at Saint Josephs Catholic Church in Chilenje where he presented with Artefacts made by the church members for President Sata as the Head of State, and himself as Kabwata member of parliament.

The Foreign Affairs Minister observed that the people of Chilenje have shown their love and care to President Sata through their presentation of artworks he described as beautiful pieces.

He added that the people of Chilenje have honoured the Republican President wholeheartedly and asked the Church to always preach love, peace and unity at all costs.

And Parish Chairperson Abel Watsema brought to the attention of the Minister the problems people of Chilenje have been encountering among them being noise pollution from the neighbouring business Houses.

Mr. Watsema further bemoaned the hustle which arises in the acquisition of land on the southern boundary saying it has been a serious matter of concern for over the last two decades.

He also took time to commend the MP over the good road network he had pledged to work on which had now become a reality citing Tutwa road.

Mr. Watsema however appealed for humps to erected on the newly tarred road to moderate the high speed at which motorists drive on Tutwa road.

  1. You go to church, talk of Sata and yet in same breath tell the church to stay out of politics Bo Given? By the way why did you and the receive artefacts for President Sata and yourself?

  2. That talk of church and politics is very old news. What I would like to find out is why you encourage being allied to the church (aka Christian nation) and in the same breath try to push the church away… What we should be talking about is the separation of religion and state so that everyone’s rights are protected – yes, I mean all religious persuasions as enshrined in the constitution. Meantime, RELIGIOUS PEOPLE, WHO MAKE UP THE CHURCH, CAN ALSO ENGAGE IN POLITICS.

  3. The Church does not only provide spiritual but also human needs. If the government is abusing state funds promoting stupid things, the Church MUST stand up and speak. The Church is the body of Christ and as such as every right to check you guys. Think before you talk man.

  4. If Lubinda had nothing to say to the church,he should kept quiet. The pipo in church are affected by politics and therefore there is no way men in the collar shud keep quiet. Keep quiet yourself

  5. Lubinda and your pf disorganisation you always use the church and chiefs for your selfish ends and urge these institutions to stay out of politics when it suits you.people will never take you seriously coz you play double standards.

  6. Politics is not a preserve of a few. We all have the right to make political comment, including priests. No one has a monopoly on our politics. Politicians need to keep their own counsel when they have nothing better to talk about.

  7. Iwe ka lubinda dont you know issues of water, land, roads, jobs, food etc is all politics?Study your bible if you have one and you will realise the church was actively involved in politics.Eg moses was a prophet and political leader,David was a prophet and political leader.Shall i go on???

  8. i think these pf minister sometimes think without their brains. has lubinda forgotten the chicken sacrifices of fatherless bwalya in Luashya at a pf rally? has he forgotten about satat’s brother in law archbishop telescope mpundu. has he forgotten about the dead hmpty dampty duff in mongu? the list goes on and the rest is for the bloggers to judge

  9. lubinda please define active politics, when the so called churches sing praises to the government then its OK but as son as they criticize it turns to active politics, foolish man.

  10. With all due respect Mr. Minister you should have said this to the Catholics especially father Bwalya. Now that you are comfortable you are giving counsel, you knew all along that what Bwalya was doing was wrong but you kept quiet because it was to your benefit. Why do intelligent people contradict themselves openly when they become politicians. Sad

  11. I think when someone rises in the realm of power, his mind become shrouded in power and money only. One’s reasoning slowly fades especially when they realise that their promises shall never be fulfilled. I had respect for Given but now I seem to be lost in appreciating his intelligence. How on earth can he tell the church to concentrate on preaching when its the church that put PF where they are? Ba Given, mwaisa mu power muchite ‘shutup’ ba church. Given, we are watching! We treasure consistence. Careful!
