A Kitwe Magistrate Court has set Christmas Eve, December 24 2012 as date for mention in the matter in which MMD leaders Nevers Mumba has been charged with unlawful assembly.
Dr. Mumba, four MMD MP’s and some senior party officials denied the charge when they appeared in court Tuesday afternoon.
They were released after paying K2 million bail each.
Kitwe Magistrate Penjani Lamba set Christmas Day as date for mention while trial commences on January 12 2013.
The MMD leaders had been in detention since Monday afternoon on grounds that they had addressed an illegal meeting in Lufwanyama.
Dr. Mumba is set to address a media briefing in Kitwe later today.

This guy is planning to hold rallies without a permit so arrest him. MMD never allowed the opposition to hold rallies without permits. Even when they obtained one this would be cancelled at the last minute. I saw this guy at Nkana with so many expensive vehicles trying to organise a meeting. He was VP(fake) and was in the fore front trying to justfy the Public Order Act so what has changed now.

His arguement was that as a Zambian he had every right to hold a meeting without asking for permission. Right, but when he was in the system why did support the Public Order Act? Why didnt he fight to remove it? Never(pun) thought he would be on the other side of the fence. He used the same police to hound Mr Sata so let him taste his own medicine. The guy is fake. This attempt as history spells out for those with ears, the current environment might just end up selling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) and Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba as a political heavyweight. My plea is for the Patriotic Front to focus on delivery, putting into practice or better put implementing election promises as time is running out
I am shocked that so many Zambians still do not know that you don’t need a permit to hold a meeting in Zambia. The Public Order Act was struck down by the Supreme Court in the State versus Christine Mulundika and others case. All you need is to inform the police so that they provide security. The fact that so many Zambians can not defend the right to assemble especially for political enemies makes me cry for my country. How shallow can we Zambians get. An abuse is being perpetrated, and we Zambians should be unanimous in defending the right to assemble whether we are Sata’s supporters or not.
Nevers Mumba should change his name to “Nervous Mumba.”
