Government has assured donors that it will not depart from undertaking its mandate of bring quality health care services to the people.
Health Minister, Joseph Kasonde, says Government puts the contribution of aiding as a value to the Ministry of Health and, therefore, there is no reason for departing.
Dr Kasonde says Government recognizes partnership with its co-operating partners in the quest to achieving and addressing universal health coverage required to the Zambian people.
He was speaking in Lusaka today during the signing ceremony of the five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Zambia and the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Health Bilateral and Multilateral Accountability Partnership for 2011 – 2015 National Health Strategic Plan.
Dr Kasonde signed on behalf of the Zambian Government while WHO Country Representative, Olusegun Babaniyi, signed on behalf of his organization.
And speaking earlier, Dr Babaniyi reiterated the spirit of partnership to helping Zambia on maternal health in the health sector.
Dr Babaniyi said there is no wavering among the donor community and requested the Zambian government to knock on the doors if support was required.
By press time, the Swedish Government, Department for International Development (DfID), the European Union and the USAID through the Embassy of the United States were also expected to sign the MoUs with the Zambian Government as co-operating partners.
