Government has vowed not to take kindly to any media institution that will be publishing misleading and unresearched information so as to cause alarm and instability in the country.

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Amos Malupenga said the role of the media was to objectively inform their audiences about what was happening in the country and beyond so that people can make informed decisions.

Mr. Malupenga said government was however still committed to the promotion of media freedom by allowing media institutions to operate without interference.

He said this in a speech read for him by Ministry of Information Acting Director for Planning, Press and Public Relations, Beaton Kaluba at the 10th anniversary of Breeze FM Radio station and launch of the radio station’s expansion programme and internet broadcasting services in Chipata last evening.

He said his ministry was concerned about the way some media players were taking advantage of government’s kindness by publishing malicious, defamatory and false stories about some private citizens and government in general.

Mr. Malupenga stated that this was not the type of media freedom government wants to be associated with as it was both unprofessional and unethical.

He congratulated Breeze FM on its 10th anniversary and appealed to its management and staff to continue working with all stakeholders in providing useful information to the public.

Meanwhile, Breeze FM Managing Director Michael Daka said his station has made the people in both urban and rural parts of Chipata district one of the most well informed in local and international affairs.

Mr. Daka, who is also the founder of Breeze FM, disclosed that through its expansion programme, the station has doubled its radius over the last 10 years.

He also revealed that the station has an average audience of about one million listeners adding that this was a huge responsibility.

Mr. Daka however bemoaned lack of financial support from local companies for the station to meet transmission costs.

And Eastern Province Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary Zachariah Luhanga said the station was a platform for government to know how people were reacting to various projects which it was implementing in the district.

Mr. Luhanga has since pledged government’s support in helping the station expand its programming so that more local people can benefit than before.

  1. Malupenga, there are so many ways of getting information these days, whether you regulate the media houses or not we will still get the information from web 2.0 tools!!!

  2. the Post once repokrted to the world that Esther Phiri had assaulted a kid in Kanyama compound which was a lie. Malupenga was one of the bosses then. was that researched reporting

    • WHY ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT THE POST AND WHAT THEY SAY? THEY DONT CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY THEMSELVES. ARE YOU AFRAID OF THEM? MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. AT LEAST THEY HAVE THE COURTESY TO SAY SORRY WHEN THEY ARE WRONG. AND THAT IS THE KIND OF PAPER WE NEED. WE ARE ADDICTED TO THE POST.

  3. Misleading and un-researched information? Then start with the Post, Daily Mail, and even ZANIS that wrote this gem of an article.

What was it the state-controlled media was reporting just this week about MMD not registering Mumba as it’s leader when in fact they have? Or the Post about Sata being back in Zambia from Addis rather than in the UK and India for health checks?

  4. I COULD LYK 2 ADVICE MR MALUPENGA 2 SERIOUS WITH WAT HE SAYS IT’S UNBELIEVEABLE 2 C DAT PICTURE OF PRESIDENT SATA ON ZWD WHICH IS NOT ONLY ALARMING BUT DISTURBING.COZ HATRED & HANGER 4 POWER 1WHO SIM NOT 2 B HUMAN CAN PUBLISH SUCH NONSE.NO 1 NOS WEN 1 DIES DE VRY PERSON PERSON WHO WISHES SATA 2 DIE MAY DIE FIRST

  5. Malupenga and Chella used to write lies when they were at the post. Now it’s their time to refute allegations. Why didn’t they tell us that HEMCS was going to India? That luck of info will make any media house speculate that there are better V*T facilities in India

  6. We have heard such news before, the invited guest had nothing to say during Breeze anniversary. He thought it will be embarrassing to each snacks without saying anythng. No warning here bane believe me.

  7. Malupenga has to be truthful to himself. Malupenga is failing to tell the nation where my president is hiding. Hiding because Malupenga as information permanent secretary is hiding information to the nation on the whereabout of president Sata.
Zambians are still alive to the fact that Mr Sata politicised the sickness of late president Mwanawasa by demanding the chief justice to declare the presidency vacant as late Mwanawasa was not available in the country and the nation was kept in the dark. Mr Sata went further to accuse MMD govt of failure to tell the nation on the state of the president (Mr mwanawasa had just suffered a stroke then known worldwide). To Mr Sata that was child’s play. Mr Sata accused MMD govt of seeking medical; treatment outside zambia. That was Mr Sata then

  8. To day Mr Sata is President like Mr Mwanawasa was, today Mr sata’s sickness is never/has never been disclosed to the nation. Today Mr Sata even though is president and can inform Zambia about his condition (sickness) with dignity for the whole nation to be with him, he chooses to sneak out of the country like a thief and Malupenga’s duty meant to diplomatically inform thenation at least that the president will proceed for medical check up chooses to threaten our freedom of expression and that lies are being written in news media. Malupenga is the cause of speculation by Zambians in the absence of truthful information. Mr Sata should not mock God for temporal political power. Positerity is already with negative legacy about Mr Sata but God has the final say.

  9. Mr Sata what goes round comes around, remember what you used to say about your sick friends? You such live longer so that you feel the pain and suffer! PF *****s.

  10. SO THERE ARE A FEW PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL BITTER WITH THE VICTORY OF SATA? WAIT AND SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE FORTH COMING TWO OR IS IT FOUR BYE-ELECTIONS. THE PF WILL SCOOP ALL OF THEM STARTING WITH L/STONE. AND THE BITTER GUYS WILL GNASH THEIR TEETH WITH MORE CUPS OF BITTERNESS. VIVA HEMCS.
THE MAN IS OLD HE CAN SUFFER FROM ILLNESSES OF OLD AGE. THATS NORMAL. AND HE IS ENTITLED TO SPECIALIST CARE. SO BE WELL OUR PRESIDENT. WE LOVE YOU.

  11. A certificate holder who has never learned about any policy on the freedom of speech nor association nor does he understand the psychological implications of intimidating Zambians like the way UNIP autocratic Dictator Kenneth Kaunda used to bark on the radio in the 1980s when politically intimidated Zambians & my parents used to listen to KK’s nonsense no matter what until the gallant soldier Mwamba Luchembe stood up to KK ‘s nonsense in June 1990!

Malupenga, am one of Zambians who had respect for you but i lost respect immediately your mentor evil Mmembe of the Post started telling lies & ignoring our suffering & injustices under Dictator Sata.

If Malupenga continues like this, he will one day wake up to a new Zambia like the way Kaunda did on the 30 June 1990.

    Long live…

  12. Am surprised that a number of you guys do support fabricated stories, like ZWD why ? thats why most of you Zedians are very self centred, dull, hypocrite kind of people and not future material.

    • Time 4 change,
The problem is that the Watchdog story on the whereabouts of the president has so far not been challenged with facts by other news media, the GRZ officials and yourself Time 4 change. The people of Zambia have the right to be concerned about the well- being of their president, it’s nothing to do with self centredness, dullness or hypocrisy as you put it.

  13. WHY NOT MENTION THEM?

PLEASE URGE THEM TO ATTEND ENGLISH LITERATURE CLASSES AT ANY HIGH SCHOOL.

MEANWHILE, THE PF MEDIA NAMELY TIMES OF PF, DAILY PF, ZNBC PF INCLUDING THE PF POST NEWSPAPER IS (ARE) IN A DILEMMA ON WHAT LIES TO PEDDLE THIS TIME. EVEN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS HAVE ELECTED TO REMAIN SILENT FOR FEAR OF LOOKING FOOLISH.

  15. Please dont close LT, Z mumbwa and TUMFWEKO, am telling you Z mumbwa en TUMFWEKO are my komedy, the comments and names on those two sites crack me bad, when i want to relax my muscles after a days hard work, i just log on, first i start with LT, much more serious stuff, then end on the two for a light moment, when am laughing loud, pipo around me think am crazy cos i would be quiet and suddenly they hear loud laughter, it’s so funny what kind of names and comments these guys come up with, so do me a favour and leave these three sites alone, you can close post, daily mail and the rest i havent mentioned, i can careless, after all i dont even bother checking, these three are enough!

  16. The worst and most misleading media house in Zambia is The Post Newspaper. It is for this reason that Zambians are shunning to buy Mmembe’s newspaper in masses. Most supporters of GBM, Willy Nsanda and the entire lot of Bemba-speaking people are refusing to buy The Post. If Malupenga respects any trace of professional journalism, he should hold the bull by the hones and direct his criticism to The Post Newspaper management. The Post is now contributing heavily to the pollution of urban centres.

  17. I never knew this guy was this desperate. We are old enough to separate the dross from the truth. We do not need you to censor our news you fat little hobbit!

  18. may i learn something plz, is malupenga threatening media houses or asking them to report on well researched issues. wht if tomorrow znbc reports that ur political leader is died when he is not involved in anthing like that. let them report on wel researched infor.

  19. Two wrongs will never make a right. Our president commented on late president levy s health. lets forget about that and wish him quick recovery.
