THE Kitwe business district was yesterday hit by a power outage from 04:00 hours until after 09:00 hours affecting business activities.

The outage paralysed business operations in major shops and some businesses which remained closed for more than two hours.

ZESCO Public Relations Manager Yammie Zimba said the power outage might have been caused by an internal problem from power supply unit.

“We were not aware of what had happened but from the investigations it seems there was an internal fault which caused the problem,” said Ms Zimba.

Ms Zimba said the technicians were already making progress to ensure the situation returned to normal.

Shoprite remained closed until after 09:00 hours with some people anxiously waiting at the entrance to buy various items.

Bayport Financial Services Corporate Affairs Manager Wane Msiska said in an interview that the financial firm was inconvenienced by the power disruption but the generator was quickly turned on to continue offering services to clients.

Spur Chicken customer attendant, Jacqueline Oldy said the business was affected as customers could not be served on time.

“It is regrettable that we had no power. It was important that ZESCO should have informed us well in advance and how can we start operating after 9 am,” said Ms Oldy.

An official from ADJS Network, who declined to be named said, the power outage inconvenienced the businesses in the district and regretted that no notice was issued by ZESCO on the power outage.

  1. Seriously something needs to be done about this load shedding. So you want an electric train system you can’t even power a light bulb ??

    • If you think education is expensive, then try ignorance. There’s no mention of loading shedding but it leaped into you comment at lightning speed. Sure what does the electric train system got to do with a fault? Talk about what you know, not just what you think.

  2. How about a more detailed explanation than Something as Vague as “power outage might have been caused by an internal problem from power supply unit.”

  3. The man that would have ended the engineering woes at ZESCO was Ernest Mupwaya. He was knowledgeable, consistent and a very experienced engineer. But he was replaced with lightening speed by. Chitundu courtesy of PF as Mupwaya didn’t belong to the “chosen tribe”. Mupwaya knew his job right from a simple service cable to the most complex engineering labyrinth at Kariba north bank control room. The problem with him was hat he mixed his calling with the MMD party security wing under Shikapwasya and tended to favor relatives of the General. The former led to his undoing and quick exit. As for the Russian trained engineer cyprian chitundu, he lives by the grace of the president
