THE Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) has thanked His Excellency Rupiah Banda, the Fourth President of the Republic of Zambia, for the role he has played in preparing Kenya for the general elections set for 4th March, 2013.

And the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF) has described President Banda’s appointment to lead a 50-person Carter Centre international election observer mission in Kenya as hardly surprising.

In a letter to the immediate past Zambian head of State , EISA Kenya country director Felix Odhiambo says President Banda’s willingness to attend the election preparation conference and deliver the keynote speech in Nairobi last month made a great deal on the success of the conference and re-engineering of the EISA work towards supporting democratic free and fair elections in Kenya and the African continent.

The election preparation conference was held in partnership with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya, the Judiciary working Committee on Election Preparations and the Kenyatta University School of Law.

“Excellency, your presentation and wise counsel did enrich the electoral discourse in our country in the run-up to the general elections. Your choice of words and sagacious advice on electoral preparations and peaceful conduct during the electoral process will surely go a long way in radiating our country’s path towards peaceful, free and fair elections,” reads part of Mr. Odhiambo’s letter.

ZANIS reports that this is contained in a statement signed by the former Republican President ‘s Acting Administrative Assistant Kennedy Limwanya.

Mr. Odhiambo adds that the EISA family is forever indebted to President Banda for the support he has accorded the pursuit of its mission to strive for excellence in the promotion of credible elections, citizen participation, and the strengthening of political institutions for sustainable democracy in Africa.

“No amount of words can express our sincere gratitude; thank you Mr. President.”

Mr. Banda last year led an EISA election observer mission to the National Assembly elections in Lesotho.

And Millennium Excellence Foundation chairman Ashim Morton says President Banda’s commitment to creating an enabling democratic environment at the regional, sub regional, national and local levels in order to achieve sustained economic growth and sustainable development, is seen in his support for African efforts for peace, stability and security.

“As we can all see, how you so eloquently accepted defeat from the loss of the electoral campaign in Zambia and endorsed the incoming president, shows maturity and one that all current heads of State in Africa should emulate when they lose elections.

“ Your new position to lead a 50-man Carter Centre team in Kenya is a just nomination and we wish you well,” wrote Ambassador Morton.

The Millennium Excellence Foundation is the organiser of Africa’s most prestigious international awards event that recognises individuals who have selflessly devoted themselves to bringing about change in the lives of Africans within the last decade.

In appointing President Banda as leader of the Carter Centre election observation mission to Kenya, former United States President and chairman of the Carter Centre Jimmy Carter said his staff had reported about the former Zambian head of State’s “immense contributions to Sierra Leone’s recent election, where his leadership and diplomacy contributed to acceptance of results and a peaceful post-election period.

“I invite you to serve as a leader to our delegation. Your experience, knowledge and political leadership would be invaluable to the mission.”

  1. Donchi Kubeba Wynter, Mmembe and Sata. They dont like to hear this. It sends them mad. They want RB to be forgotten quickly. But can he?

    • Yes he will be forgotten, and sooner than you think. He is appointed by Carter centre only because he is representing Zambia, a current model of democracy he is now trying to ruin. In his quest to appear democratic, he would like to turnish the name of the sitting president so that he appears to be the only Zambian capable of leaving office without a fight. But soon, other presidents in Africa will get the message Carter centre he is preaching and leave office peacefully, then they will be rewarded by doing what Banda is doing now. The question is what role is Banda doing in preparing Zambia for the general elections of 2016? Is he uplifting Zambia? Listen to his international press secretary and lawyer Armstedam.

  2. Everyone can see what bad leadership can bring. RB looks like an angel now due to Sata’s bad leadership and no one can take this away from RB. Mr Sata and your gang, PLEASE start ruling and be nice to the people who pushed you up the ladder. DONT PLAN EVIL as is the case at present. Sometimes I ask myself what type of a catholic you are! You are making our church look satanic. You are NOT ruling this country according to the 10 commandments. PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG!

  3. if you read mmembe’s editorial you would be forgiven for thinking that rb woke up and went to bed day in and day out with just one thought in his mind: scheming how to do evil to the country he was ruling. really?? come give us a break, you can do better than that,,,,,,, rb made mistakes yes, some of them costly and no one in his normal senses would dispute that. but was this all there was to rb? i think not. and talking about mistakes, where does ukwa fair on this? on a scale of 0 to 10; 0 being no mistakes made whatsoever and 10 making all the mistakes you can think of?

    • As father of the nation he should be there for Zambia good or bad. He is appointed by Carter centre only because he is representing Zambia, a model of democracy he is now trying to ruin. In his quest to appear democratic, he would like to turnish the name of the sitting president so that he appears to be the only Zambian capable of leaving office without a fight. But soon, other presidents will get the message Cater centre he is preaching and leave office peacefully, then they will be rewarded by doing what Banda is doing now. The question is what role is Banda doing in preparing Zambia for the general elections in 2016? Is he uplifting Zambia? listen to his lawyer.

  4. What RB is doing are the usual tasks given to past Presidents. So, even when RB does nothing to warrant praise he will be praised. Really this is nothing. All these letters RB is receiving are just for sake of respect. Even when Sata leaves office, he will go through all these. Remember, RB didn’t want to leave office (he actually cried publicly). It took the man almost a week for him to accept defeat and yet today you say he is great. People forget easily mweeee.

    • Not all past presidents, have you seen Muluzi go anywhere leading a delegation of observers. What about your own back yard Kaunda, where has he been lately? Apart from being a vuvuzela for Sata!

    • “Even when Sata leaves office, he will go through all these”, really??? This Sata guy has no friends whatsoever outside his circle of criminals in PF(Mmembe, Nchito, Kabimba, GBM etc). Eg, he came to RSA during Afcon. Nobody from RSA govt was there to c him. he insults fellow presidents and so on. U expect him to start building relationships after he leaves office

    • I doubt if Sata will get such recognition when he leaves office. It is not every former president who receives such recognition. What I know is that such recognition is not given to former presidents who were dictators. Sata has portrayed the behaviour of a dictator and that is why he is among few leaders who are close to Mugabe.

  5. Congratulations RB Pls PF give RB some respect for giving Zambia agood name.Stop persecuting him and spend your enrgy on developing our nation.People are fed up of you wasting your energy on politicking.

    • The question is what role is Banda doing in preparing Zambia for the general elections in 2016? Is he uplifting Zambia? listen to his lawyer.

  6. Congrats Mr. president!! Zambia has always been a beckon of democratic values advancement – at home and in the region. I m happy Mr. RB u continue to impart these values to our brothers and sisters in Kenya. My hope and wish is that some chimbwi will not destroy these values at home, in our mother land, in Zambia!!

    • I can see that the homosexuals are really jealous of RB! Your Ukwa will never amount to anything as long as he is shielding those thieves who stole K14bn, forged court orders (Ka Mutembo), Corrupt Oil procurement, Untendered State House renovations, K1.5Bn for Kaseba the list is endless

  7. True that wise men come from the east and the international recognition and accolades RB is receiving so far prove that.Keep on shaming these clueless PF thugs who are turning zed into a basketcase police state.

  8. keep it up RB your acceptance to defeat has give u international recognition,we know there are pipo who are hurting because of your archievement thats why they wont rest untll they see u behind bars………

  9. It would not hurt the current government to at least show some appreciation and recognition. Associating with Mugabe, insulting George Bush and the Judge Chikopa saga are just typical examples of serious luck of judgement. This clueless government will go down in Zambian history as the most intolerant regime that ever ruled our beautiful nation.

  10. RUPIAH BANDA uli chipondo!! You make us proud. You are the only silver-lining around our pitch-black leadership cloud in Zambia. Even Kenneth Kaunda has been relegated to a PF cadre instead of doing what you are doing. The world has stopped respecting Kaunda for his warped logic. But we are not surprised about Kaunda’s behaviour, that’s why we kicked him out unceremoniously in 1991. But for you RB, you are the soaring Zambian Eagle that we sing about in our National Anthem. Thank you for making the world see that the strange evil character of Sata and PF does not represent the character of the majority of Zambians – except the minority PF cadres. Sata, his PF and Mmembe are choking with jealous.

  11. The litmus test for unforgiveness is not being able to acknowledge and appreciate when something good happens to your enemy. At the heart of human healing is forgiveness on which the Bible is centered. “For God so loved the World that he gave us his son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but shall have everlasting life”. Zambia is for Zambians and I believe every one has a contribution to make, whether as the ruling party or in opposition. We should not behave as if we are mortal beings because we are just passing through. It would really take a lot of humility for someone in the current government to publicly acknowledge RB’s accolades.

  12. RB is proving to be our knight in shining armor, our international envoy par excellence and a welcome shining light in an otherwise darkened zambian image.Keep our flag flyin high you’re the best thing to zambia’s image after the many disastrous faux pas of Sata.

    • He is appointed by Carter centre only because he is representing Zambia, a model of democracy he is now trying to ruin. 13. H.E. has created a hero in RB, even when the man is not one. The arbitrary arrests of opposition leaders on flimsy grounds, the hiring of his ministers to stalk ethnic tension, the abuse of public resources by government officials, the creation of a parallel cabinet in Mmembe & Nchito, and the creation of sacred cows in the anti corruption fight, the appointment with impunity of people from one regional grouping, all these things suddenly make Rupiah look like mother Tereza of Calcuta as compared to Sata. His prosecution will be tricky and the opposition are in a dilemma. To support a motion moved by a government that has humiliated and locked up most of their leaders is no easy task. RB need investigation, but Government’s ground is shaky for now.

  14. Tetamashimba must smiling in his grave that the man he pleaded with to run for presidency is now truly a president for all Africa,my president RB. I miss you and your humbleness God BLESS YOU RICHLY .Amen

  15. That blood sucking lawyer Robert Amsterdam is behind all this and Ala Bee is paying that chap with our money he stole, nobody is going to spend sleepless nights over this drivel…

  16. THAT IS WHY I AM IN SA. I AM CALLING FRIENDS TO ENHANCE MY PROFILE ON AFRICAN STAGE AMIDST PENDING CORRUPTION INVESTIGATIONS AROUND ME. UNFORTUNATELY ONLY KENYA IS RESPONDED.

I AM AWARE THAT ACCORDING TO TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL CORRUPTION INDEX, KENYA RANKS AS ONE OF THE MOST CORRUPT COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD, THE LATEST INDEX SHOWS. ACCORDING TO THE INDEX L, KENYA RANKED 154 OUT OF 182 COUNTRIES.

I SOON AS FORMER US PRESIDENT, JIMMY CARTER RESPONDS, I WILL CATCH MY NEXT FLIGHT HOME.
    .

  17. We need more Zambians in the limelight. We are known for good things. But their is darkness in the horizon – RB’s stealing was highlighted in the Post. Instead of telling us what RB stole they are busy trying to negotiate with him to clear his name. Give us a list like Mwanawasa did in the case of Chiluba – that useless list of cases which were developed by few newspaper editors. Under RB no newspaper ruled Zambia but we see it now like it happened in Mwanawasa

  18. Fake accolade manufactured by his friends and Amsterdam now that he is in hot soup!

How does he deserve that honor, when he was one of the most corrupt leaders of our time; first president in the world who was rejected by his nation, he was allowed to serve for only 3 years?

Where are credible x-leaders in Africa for him to now rank number 1 above the KKs, the Mandelas, the Chissanos etc!

RB just come back home. Surely,
    We not buying the crap!

    • Satan will die without any accolade and very soon, Kasebanya has gained a lot of weight from Kamimbya’s Lubunda’s and Gee Bee eM’s spemus. That is why this fight against Great Bag of Milisi, Givenious Lubunda and Winter Maize Kamimbya will not stop. They are all fighting for one ladder, nocho ci ladder cila peela yonse fye.

  19. FAKE ACCOLADES,

    • Kabimba, why waste time? PF is now in power, let it develop the nation, instead of the petty politics it is engaged in. Please PF advise your old man in plot one to start developing the nation. Look the kwacha is slipping quickly. Soon the three zeros (000) will be back sooner than you expected it. Then indeed there will be NO MONEY IN PEOPLE’S POCKETS. Donchi kubeba!

  22. I am observing instantaneous, minute-by-minute commenting here. As soon as there is a twist in the news one hardly gets surprised to see turncoats handing in their colors for new ones, and daylight-dreading rats running for the dark corners… Just observe and see in a few instants to come…

  23. Kenya is ranked as one of the most corrupt countries in the world!! and am therefore not surprised by this corrupt relationship with RB!!
