Youths from the opposition MMD have appealed to President Michael Sata to revoke the award bestowed on popular musician Dandy Krazy after he pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.
On Independence Day in 2011, President Sata bestowed the Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom award on Dandy Krazy whose real name is Wesley Chibambo for his popular PF campaign song “Don’t Kubeba.”
On Thursday, Dandy Krazy pleaded guilty in the Luanshya Magistrate Court to drug trafficking charges after DEC officers found him in possession of 14 grams of cannabis.
MMD Youth leader Bowman Lusambo has now appealed to President Sata to immediately revoke the prestigious national award from Dandy Krazy following the drug saga.
“We believe Dandy Krazy is a bad role model to the youths and that award does not befit a man of his character. We hereby demand that President Sata grabs the award from Dandy. This again goes to show that there was not so much thought given to this matter before the decision to award him was arrived at.”
Mr. Lusambo has also challenged mobile phone operator Airtel to cancel all branding and advertising contracts with Dandy Krazy.
“If Airtel is a serious corporate organisation, it should immediately withdraw all billboards and advertisements on radio and TV bearing Dandy’s image. This is bad business for Airtel and should do what is right by dropping the partnership with Dandy forthwith,” Mr. Lusambo said.
Wise advise but problem you are advising an african president who incidentally shares the same characteristics with the guy. As of airtel lets wait and see what type of people they would want to associate with.

I never understood why the president gave him an award, but I think it’d be a waste of time to officially take it away. Universities here in the U.S. are awarding honorary degrees all the time to people who speak at graduation, and I don’t understand that either. Whether he was a drug dealer at the time or not does not hold water because we only knew him as a musician. By the way, even some footballers in UK who have been awarded the MBE have certain characteristics that are not up to scratch but they are still MBEs. Armstrong was stripped because he was competing when he doped. Dandy just sung and some were happy while others were not happy but he did not physically disadvantage anyone like the way Armstrong did. Dandy deserved it, finish!

OK Bloggers, Whatever we can say, Dandy as a Role Model & Human Being, Yes he should not engage himself in such, considering his role in our community. Revoking the award is not fair. People make mistakes and we learn from them. LET HIM HAVE THE AWARD, HE DESERVES IT as we are all not perfect.

If you cheated in your thesis or whatever the university has the right to take back your degree because certain things goes only with certain behaviour/norms/virtue.
