The United Party for National Development (UPND) has aid that it will “sort out” its two Members of Parliament (MPs) from western province who have accepted to serve in Government as deputy ministers after the Livingstone by-elections.
President Michael Sata has appointed Sinjembela’s Poniso Njeulu and Kalabo Central’s Chinga Miyutu as deputy ministers in the ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services, and Sports respectively.
This brings the number of United Party for National Development (UPND) MPs serving in government to four.
UPND secretary general Winstone Chibwe said in an interview yesterday that Mr Njeulu and Mr Miyutu should for now enjoy whatever was in offer for them but they would be sorted out after the Livingstone by-election set for Thursday this week.
Mr Chibwe, who on behalf of UPND had based the expulsion of two other MPS Itezhi tezhi’s Greyford Monde and Sinazongwe’s Ritchwell Siamunene on disciplinary charges, suggested the Western province MPs would also follow suit.
When asked whether the two would not be banned despite accepting ministerial positions since they were not facing disciplinary charges, said it was up to the UPND management to tell whether the two were facing disciplinary charges or not.
“Who told you that the two are not facing disciplinary charges? You are not aware because you are not part of UPND management. Let us finish the Livingstone by-election then the party will move in,” Mr Chibwe said.
Mr Sata has already appointed Mr Monde as deputy Agriculture minister while his counterpart, Mr Siamunene was appointed as Commerce deputy minister.
But UPND has since expelled them claiming the two were ejected out of the party because they were already facing disciplinary charges and not because they accepted ministerial positions.
Mr Njeulu and Miyutu are expected to be sworn-in at State House today.

Every time I come to Zambia I would hide my other passport down in my suitcase. Can someone guide me on how I can renounce my Zambian nationality. Where can I dump this chi green passport and NRC?
Do not use emotions, presidents come and go, don’t throw away your zed passport and NRC, keep them with you and use them, they are your birth right. We shall soon normalize when the old folks phase out not more than 5-10 yrs from now.

The biggest trouble we are having is the firing of these MP’s by their party.UPND does not need to fire these chaps as they have not resorted to join PF.They are just weakening themselves and definately PF will adopt them once thay are fired.

UPND should just accept those ministerial positions. You can use your positions to learn and strategize. How then you learned men and women going to harness the best brains of the nation on a continuous basis? We do not need exclusivist mentality but inclusivist attitude for national development. Let there be opposition memberd in govt, its ok. Just how would UPND and PF have worked if that failed come together succeeded? Let everyone appointef minister help build the country or you will be in opposition the rest of your life ever with false optimism that you will form govt. Focus on developing the country and not on oppositional scores which many times remain illusions.
Zambia is my mother land, and no one will ever take that away from me. But then there are reasons why people leave their home land and opt to work elsewher. Seriously you do not need to sort out the MPs who have accepted appointments from the President. What you need is to amend the constitution for that a President can ONLY nominate an MP from the opposition, who then has to be ratified and confirmed by parliament. That way opposition MPs can take these appointments. After all we all want development in our areas. And presidential powers will be limited only to nominating. Parliament will be in charge. The President does not need to opposition MPs that he will give them fuel, food, etc that is cheap politics.
HH is the one who needs to be sorted out, he is destroying the opposition by identifying it solely with himself (and his new satanic boyfriends William Banda and Robert Amsterdam)
