GOVERNEMNT is concerned with falsehoods being peddled by some members of the public that it is delaying salaries for civil servants when in fact not.

Ministry of Finance Public Relations Officer Chileshe Kadenta said yesterday in a statement that contrary to the allegations, Government has released K650 million for salaries for civil servants for the month of June, 2013.

This brings the total of funds released for payment of salaries since January to K3.85 billion.

Mr Kandeta said in an effort to enhance cash and treasury management, all civil servants were on the Direct-Debit and Credit Clearing [DDAC] System and received their salaries within 24 hours of release by the treasury, in accordance to terms of reference given to various commercial banks.

He said this was to ensure that salaries were timely paid before the month end.

Meanwhile Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda has appointed the Board for the Public Service Micro-Finance Company.

The board comprises of Permanent Secretary [Economic Management & Finance], Ministry of Finance Felix Nkulukusa (chairperson), Dr.VilepiMtonga, Permanent Secretary [Public Service Management Division], Cabinet Office, Pamela Kabamba, Permanent Secretary [Budget & Economic Affairs], Ministry of Finance.

Others are Trevor Kaunda, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Labour, Michael Liweleya, Law Association of Zambia, Senduka Siafwa, Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants and Tamala Ngoma, Chief Accountant (Investment & Debt Management), Ministry of Finance

  1. Give a distinction when it is due and not a credit. The DDAC system is very efficient and government must be given a clean distinction for this performance. Let the system continue for the good of all civil servants. Respective commercial banks may be responsible for delays. MOFNP keep it up.
