The Oasis Forum has described as too long the extension granted to the Technical Committee drafting the constitution to complete its work on the final document.
Speaking to Q fm in an interview, Oasis Forum National Coordinator Charity Musamba says the failure by the technical committee to work within the time frame raises genuine concerns and anxiety from stakeholders.
Ms Musamba says dragging the constitution making process to December does not please Zambians who are anxious to have a new constitution.
She says while it is important for the technical committee to be given enough time to complete its work, the granted extension of up to December is too long.
She states that the thirty days extension was adequate for the document to be ready.
Ms. Musamba adds that while the committee has challenges in its work in trying to deliver a people driven constitution, it should also be mindful of the anxieties of the Zambian people.
Ms. Musamba has since appealed to the technical committee to ensure that they complete their work even before December.

You Oasis what do you really want? You were saying the committee needed enough time to finish and you castigated the PF government as to why they were rushing the process. PF listened to your concerns and extended the period. Again you are against the extension, what do you stand for then? This is being very useless and undecided. You are now just making noise atase.

I knew it coming! I talked about the intentions of the cc to extend deadlines for many times. When they cried for extention for one month up to 31st July, what was in their mind was actually 24th October, ha, now December. Infact it wont be December, it will be usix to twelve months there after. Its our African way, ever unfinished projects. Next, they will be asking for expert advice soon or later. Their target is that nonending govt funding, to benefit as much as possible. Thats the sure way we sink funds and keep asking for more. This cc project has no time scale or consequences for overspending. Unfinished projects in Africa, this cc is typical.
Civil society must learn to speak with one voice on matters of national interest. This can be achieved by holding consultative meetings followed by a press statement. Many members of public needed the Constitution yesterday. Therefore, talking about tommorow is taking them foregranted. Governments need support across political divide on important national matters such as the constitution.

They made alot of noise when this technical committee was given 31st day of June for hand over the document. They criticized PF now that PF listen to their cry again they have turned around.
