Acting President and Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has called for the lifting of punitive sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the International Community.

In his congratulatory message to re-elected Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, Mr Chikwanda said countries in the international community still maintaining sanctions on Zimbabwe should lift the sanctions in the interests of common humanity fellowship.

Mr Chikwanda said the sanctions have outlived their usefulness.

He said it has become morally implausible to maintain eternal ostracism of Zimbabwe from the community of nations.

The acting President further stated that going forward, the illustrious, diligent and resourceful people of Zimbabwe should be allowed unfettered opportunity to prosper and make useful contribution to overall global prosperity and wellbeing.

Mr Chikwanda in a statement issued to QFM News has since appealed to all sections of Zimbabwe to remain calm and united as they forge ahead for the enhanced economic prosperity.

Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe won re-election for a seventh term in office with 61% of the vote beating his long time rival Morgan Tsvangirai who 38% of the vote.

  1. After all, Hon. Kabima is right, there is no morality in politics.
Instead of asking EU, USA, Australia to lift justified sanctions against ROGUE regime why not ask “Comrade” Mugabe to let people express their right without usual electoral thefts?

  2. I agree for once because it is the poor people who suffer most and this all idea of sanction of poor countries to dance to the tune of the colonisers is bad no wonder many are going to China to get money without conditionalities which are punitive. As for Mugabe, we should just wait for him to die or retire because looks like he knows his game plan very well.

    • Yes, I agree with Mr Chikwanda. It is the Zambian government’s cabinet on whom sanctions should be imposed, and not Zimbabwe. These are the new breakers of democratic principles and must be confined to Muchinga.

    • Imwe ba mambala, if Mugabe does not care about his own people, why should the international community give a rat’s behind? Abash Mugabe and ZANU fimo fimo. The sanctions should be upheld until Mugabe started caring about his people or until Zimbabweans wake up and vote him out of power or starve to death!

  3. Mr Chikwanda Sir, be informed that there are no punitive sanctions on Zimbabwe. The only people facing sanctions is Mugabe and his minions. They are not allowed travel into the European union countries except when they have to attend meetings for international organisations like the UN and its agencies. Zimbabwe is still allowed to export or import anything from the Europe or America. So Mr Chikwanda educate yourself about the situation before you embarrass us. There are no sanctions on Zim. Its Bob and Grace who have been barred from shopping in London and Paris.

    • 100% true. Sanctions against immoral “rulers” are the only option. Maybe that is the reason for Hon. Chikwanda is worried. After all, Hon. Kabimba say that there is no morality in the politics, just immoral politicians!!!

    • Seems as though the statement has been written for him by Fred Mmembe.

It is definitely out of context. Sanctions on Zimbabwe.

    • no third world country can survive without balance of payments support and this is what has been withheld from Zimbabwe-the imf and world bank have refused to engage Zimbabwe on orders from Washington. lts not long from now and Zimbabwe will be prospering again-the people who benefited from land reforms produced $700m worth of tabacco in the last farming seasons so things are beginning to turn around and Mugabe will be proved right in time

    • What about the expulsion from the Commonwealth? I know Germany is not interested but it’s still a type of sanction. In fact the Zambian opposition has hired a PR firm in the UK to lobby for Zambia’s expulsion

    • Also it’s not that simple if you look a sanctionswiki dot org slash zimbabwe – it’s not just Mugabe and his alleged cronies

    • Zambians please please read widely before you comment. Knowledge is power.
There are UN sanctions against Zimbabwe on assumed and proven involvement in the illicit trade of high value commodities, including diamonds. UN & EU Conflict Diamonds.

    • @ 2, 2.1, 2.2, 3 your are imbeciles!!!!!!!! You dic.kheads are such an embarrassment to your parents. Shameless, Pathetic Africans!

    • This is the most ignorant point. You are talking to people who seat in high level meetings as if they seat in those PTA meetings.Opposing with ignorance like Mitt Romney lol!

  4. does it mean there is NO one in the whole of Zimbabwe who can sacrifice by gunning down Mugabe from the head?

    • #3,There is no need for that.2 wrongs don’t make a right.Mugabe’s soul is tormented because of the murders he has committed .He knows that soon he will have to face his maker and give account of his life.

  5. Iwe Chikwanda, walasa becoz those sanctions mean nothing to the people of Zimbabwe except to show stupid power on the part of the western world. They are furious that Zimbabwean land went back to the rightful owners – Black Africans. They are so bitter that they will not agree that Mugabe won the elections-no matter what. You are dead right mwana wa amama.

    • YOU ARE AMONG THE FEW RIGHT THINKING PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMMENTED!!!! NOT THESE GOOD-FOR NOTHING BLOGGERS WHO ARE EVER SICK WITH “VERBAL DIARRHOEA…..!”

  6. Time to let go of the meme of ‘targeted sanctions’.

The Zimbabwean economy has been targeted for destruction because they actually redistributed the land, rather than the IMF’s ‘title deed reform’ which only secures African land for foreign corporations.

ZDERA is not ‘selectively targeted’, it is aimed at “the Government of Zimbabwe”, and by implication the people of Zimbabwe, who the Zimbabwean government supplies with services.

  7. Congraturation Mugabe. I like the way you have denounced their gaysm where as your counter part Sata has remained quiete.

Why do they want to force us to recognise gays in our countries. In their own countries polygamism is a criminal offence. But we have not gone to America to force them to recognise my cousins the Tonga bulls who have more than one wife because we respect their way of living. We need more Mugabes. I wish you were 40 years old at the time of re-election.

    • GO AND WORK, YOU IMBECILE!!!! YOU ARE WAITING FOR CHIKWANDA TO COME AND PUT MONEY IN YOUR POCKET???! FIND A JOB OR START A BUSINESS! YOU HAVE NO CAPITAL….? INDEED, YOU’RE AN I.DIOT!!!

  8. Robert Mugabe thinks that he owns Zimbabwe….. but age gonna disturb his mentality. give a chance to others peace

  9. Mr Chikwanda, Zambia has no influence on what the Western world does to Zimbabwe. Am afraid you are shouting in the wind…

You are better off sorting the grave you are digging for yourself back home in Zambia

  10. LEAVES ME TO WONDER HOW WE WANT TO ASSOCIATE OUR COUNTRY WITH USELESS COUNTRIES LIKE ZIMBABWE. AN 89 YEARS OLD MAN STILL WANTING TO HOLD ON POWER?? BA CHIKWANDA, YOU HAVE REALLY DISAPPOINTED ME, THOUGHT YOU ARE A SMART MAN, WHO SHOULD ENCOURAGE MUGABE TO RETIRE?? GOD FORBID THE MAN WILL NOT EVEN FINISH HIS TERM. HE WILL BE 94 AT THE NED OF HIS TERM.. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH SADC LEADERS WHO HAVE CONGRATULATED MUGABE. SHOWS THEIR LEVEL OF THINKING. WHY NOT JUST KEEP QUITE?? WHAT IS THERE TO CONGRATULATE??? BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHERS?? JUST KNOW ZAMBIANS ARE WATCHING VERY CLOSELY. 61% NONSENSE WILL NOT HAPPEN IN 2016….

  11. Great Grand pas at it again! Never stops to amuse…how can the one who begs for donations order he who has the power give!

  12. Zimbabweans ve voted & elections results declared. So who is winer? The declared winer is shud take ofice & rule.New constitution declares Mugabe evn legible fr next elections..Thts Z imbabwe constitution. Results ve ve bn declared nexxt is aftr term of ofice.

  13. So let’s analyze it and face reality, Zimbabweanz hav suffered the sanctions should go you can’t starve a country just to prove your point that’s wrong anywhere why should foreigners be so involvd in our domestic policy wake up pipo.

  14. Just like kenyata he has shamed them ,devil incarnates.leave Africa alone!HH and Mumba learn lessons here.Anywhere mulitupuba u don’t. STOOGES!Mr Chikwanda, well said.Bravo Zimbabwe!

  15. Today’s post editorial comment about zim election results has shocked me. Couldnt believe how a newspaper that purports to stand on democratic tenets could write such dung about a serious matter as elections.
ve always known the post and its editor to be old fashioned dreaming about old lenin days that dont add value. The post condemnation of the US casts doubt about its credibility. Between the US and that beast obasanjo, who is more credible? As for impoverished SADC LAWYERS, what can anyone expect.

Who doesnt know that zuma like his predecessor mbeki ve a colonial outdated primitive savagely shaka mentality. as for that toothless general from nigeria, its time he started feeling ashamed of himself.

  16. Sanctions should stay. This guy lost the 2008 elections and refused to step down.lifting the sanctions wont help his country at all, they will just legitimatize a dictator. He has been in power for over 30 yrs and refuses to step down. The last elections may have been won by him but it does not change the notion of relinquishing power when you lose.If he loves his people so much, he could save the country by voluntarily stepping down and giving room to a new generation to lead Zimbabwe.

  17. why does the post supports and idolise rogue states. How can anyone ve respect for that criminal fidel castro who ruled his pipo for over 50yrs.
Your editorial was the worst ve ever seen my in life. Would u said what u wrote if levy was president? What if RB claimed victory in 2011, would u ve denounced the west? Common post be serious, your editorial was out of depth.

  18. In all honesty Mugabe is the one of the few articulate Zimbabweans I have come across, its no wonder he is still in power, the rest of them are ignorant village drunkards here in the UK you will regret engaging them in a political debate because it will end in bloody brawl. I almost learnt this the hard way those guys can’t debate. The irony of this is that the Zimbabwean asylum seekers and refugees claiming to be fleeing persecution from the Mugabe regime in the UK are the pro ZANU-PF supporters and cadres.
