Three opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) carders were last evening assaulted by suspected Patriotic Front (PF) cadres in Katete District at Tikondane Lodge near St Francis Hospital.
ZANIS reports from Katete District that Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila has confirmed the development in an interview, today.
Ms. Chipalila named the three as Abraham Zulu an MMD counselor, Jeremiah Njovu and Micheal Phiri elder brother to Patriotic Front Candidate David Phiri.
The trio were allegedly beaten up by cadres suspected to be from the ruling Patriotic Front after they were followed to Tikondane lodge at around 23 hours last night.
The police commissioner said police has however not made any arrests to this effect as the victims have failed to identify the suspects.
Ms. Chipalila has however assured Katete resident of enough security in the district during and after the polls.
And Patriotic Front Candidate David Phiri who is the young brother to Micheal Phiri said has dispelled assertions linking him to the assault incident.
Mr. Phiri told the media in Katete t his father’s residence that he has not been in contact with his brother for some time and only met him yesterday when he went to pick his vehicle at their fathers’ house.
He said he is aware that his elder brother belongs to the opposition MMD and that he has no problem with his brothers’ decision.
He noted that every person has the right to join a party of their choice.
Meanwhile Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba has condemned the action by the alleged PF cadres.
Mr. Mwamba said it is wrong for anyone to take the law in their own hands adding that the three should have been taken to the police for further action after they were found in the act.
He said the PF has always insisted on maintaining peace during its campaigns.
He added that it is however unfortunate that the MMD cadres went on to campaign after the close at 18 dishing out money and other materials.
Phiri, Njovu and Zulu who have been hospitalized at St. Francis Hospital were yesterday beaten up by suspected PF cadres after they were alleged to have been found giving out money and other campaign materials.

We must not leave the PF thugs continue beating and killing people during by-elections. This will force people to react if this system continues. Please, please if Mulusa is killed or harmed, all North-westerners will protest sharply. Bisonga Bimana. We want our Mulusa come un hurt and live.
I hope PF realises that GBM is up to no good for the future of the party. The way he is behaving in Mkaika is such that in 2016 it will be tough for PF to win elections because of the public revulsion due to behaviour of cadres led by GBM. May be GBM is behaving like that because he know he has no chance of ever being PF president in future and so he wants to spoil it for everybody. This is a huge shame because GBM is supposed to be a respected MInister of Defence who is not supposed to be involved in small level thuggery….his job is the dream of other politicians. As the effective number 3 in govt, he is supposed to be quietly working on national security strategies…not throwing stones at a bye-elections. Illiteracy is a liability. In future, all this will come to haunt GBM.
Best option is, get rid of any factions as they are only interested in power – “more money in their families pockets” & not serving the Zambian people.
That way maybe they can start the P.F resucitation program.
My people in Katete are civilized and they will do one thing: reject Paya Farmer PF until they stop thuggery and lies. Wait for midnight!

21 HOURS IN MKAIKA: MMD LEADING BY MORE 4000 VOTES
Latest results posted at the totaling station in the Mkaika parliamentary election show that the MMD is leading by a wide margin and in all poling stations.
The MMD candidate had polled 5785 votes from 25 polling stations that had been counted by 21 hours. The PF candidate had 1981 from the 25 polling stations. there are 38 polling stations in Mkaika constituency.
Results posted at 21 hours local time by polling stations show that at Kafunka MMD polled 307 votes, PF 41, Narep 03, Unip 01.
At Chimasuko MMD got 330 PF 52, Narep 1, Unip 0.
At Vulamukoko MMD 254, PF 31, Narep 10, Unip 2 Chisale MMD 98 PF 16 , Narep 3, Unip 1, Chankanga MMD 165, PF 31, Narep 5, Unip 5.
At Tosa, MMD had 304, PF 6. At Nyamazi MMD got 202, PF 14. At…
How true are these results? Let us wait and see what tomorrow will bring and if PF loses, then I will not hear of any more by-elections caused by winter kabimba until 2015 December.

Nakale PF yafyongo. When we were in MMD governance, we never experienced such violence as this. People have now come to realise that ba PF amaka yabo nipanga if they can even beat each other within their party. A divided kingdom its fall is shameful.
